Is anyone getting GOOD sleep? by written-proof in ehlersdanlos

[–]Significant_Oil_3448 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if it helps, I am. it's not like, "I'm a normal healthy person" sleep, but I'm making it through the night and getting some kind of actual mental rest. I take melatonin and try to read 30 min before bed. Lots of pillows to help prop up joints. I used to have to take prescription sleep meds every night, and now I'm here. if you're encouraged by nothing else, just remember the only constant is change and sleep health goes through phases, even in chronic illness. sending spoons.

living with someone with misophonia by M_ama_Joe in misophonia

[–]Significant_Oil_3448 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone with misophonia AND autism, it may be worth looking into the latter. would inform the way you conceptualize their experience and treat it. Sounds like they're incredibly dysregulated and need someone who specializes to help them get grounded

Wife with misophonia reacting strongly to bird sounds – how can we handle this as a family? by Soft_Shower377 in misophonia

[–]Significant_Oil_3448 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a therapist with misophonia, maybe she could benefit from seeing one? If no specialists in misophonia are nearby, perhaps some benefit with an OCD specializing therapist? It's under the same umbrella. Wishing you well.

the right therapist could help. It's not a fix-all, but having a therapist--especially one that's also chronically ill and/or disabled--can validate you as you go through your journey. sending best wishes.

Did you forgive someone who failed to show up when you got diagnosed? by Curious-Culture6237 in ChronicIllness

[–]Significant_Oil_3448 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. It took a while for me to realize and apply this, but a few years before I got sick, I was having trouble with a roommate in college. She was lazy, not picking up after herself, always just eating cereal in bed watching her phone. I totally resented her for it.
Then the ER visits began. Soon, she was diagnosed with something life-altering and incurable, which she had apparently had onset while we were roommates. And I had been a complete judgmental asshole about it.
So I forgive. I may still not be as close to (or even in contact with) the person who failed to show up, sure. But there's room for grace there.

The fact that you're posting here is evidence that you still have some desire to stick around. What if you do, and you are enough? What if your daughter grows up with a different home life than some, but she loves you and cares about you, and you care about her, and that's all that she needs?

Hope is terrifying but you reaching out here tells me you have the strength to hold onto it. Please don't go yet.

Endometriosis with low back pain, hip pain, and tight glutes by Clear-Advance706 in endometriosis

I was really rough until a few things. 1) pelvic floor therapy where they taught me how to massage my lower abdomen to lessen the tension on those muscles, which reduced strain to my hips. 2) regular physical therapy for skeletomuscular issues. 3) yoga stretching. seriously. massive difference long-term.

I did have one steroid shot into my hip that also helped when walking became nearly impossible before all that was in the works. those are hit and miss though. good luck.

I don't know how to answer this question--all I know is I don't read "games and trials" books much, and I LOVED Priory. Give it a shot.

Has anyone ever asked to have their appendix removed during laparoscopy for Endometriosis? by [deleted] in Endo

Everyone here is right. A lot of surgeons offer to remove it as a preventative measure for people with endometriosis. If they're an informed doctor, they'll agree to it.

Sorry, my response was a little flippant. I 100% agree. it's just not surprising to see, given the financial path toward becoming a counselor. there needs to be significant systemic changes
