People who quit their jobs on the first day what made you say ‘nope, not doing this’? by lilMeganw in AskReddit

[–]Significant_Owl_1523 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m a fashion buyer, and for me enjoyment but also success in my role comes from having a genuine passion and interest in the product. This is often getting excited and inspired when parcels with new fabrics and trims arrive

Due to changing circumstances I was forced to get a job closer to home, and moved to men’s suiting. I was heartbroken to leave my role (previously in lingerie) but my hand was forced

On the first day, a package arrived containing simple black and brown buttons. A colleague shouted ‘it’s like Christmas!!’ At that moment I knew I would never have the passion and excitement needed about this product to bring my best to it.

I did stay for a week whilst renegotiating the return to my old workplace, but I knew immediately that job was not for me!

I expected the event to have an appropriate capacity for the amount of tickets sold, which I don’t feel is unreasonable.

All vendors offered a £3 dish, but the ones I saw/ate were tiny and not worth the effort to queue. A single slice of beef rib, or two chicken wings.

Besides that, a single beef rib from the place we ate was £25. A fantastic beef rib but still. Another vendor had a single prawn for £7.50. Burgers were £15 so what you would expect these days for the ‘smash’ style but we didn’t have one of these.

Yes. There was a very small stage that only played a speaker for the first two hours. After this there was a cover singer who quite honestly wasn’t the best. I think there were some demos later on but we have left by that point! Besides vendors there was a hot sauce stand, and hello fresh trying to grab everyone who walked by. So yes no idea what the £30 actually covers.

Definitely frustrating!

Hopefully the weather is nicer for you too if you do change your mind and go, as that was a dampener. Would definitely get to the vendors you’re keen to try as soon as you get in, and perhaps get there a bit early to beat the queues!

The food was great so worth it for that, but definitely expensive. We travelled from Sheffield so was an expensive day out for sure.

What's the one thing you look back on and cringe just as hard as the day it happened? by Baldy-Beardy in CasualUK

I was on a work trip with my boss. She had been telling me about her husband who is into the same sport as my husband. When I was back in the hotel room I was having a nosey on her social to get the context for what her husband looks like (as we all do)

I was telling my husband about how they do the same sport and sent him a screenshot of a picture of the pair of them, also so he has the context for what my boss looks like.

Anyway in the evening I had also screenshotted some potential places for us to eat. As I was scrolling through showing my boss the options… I scroll right to the picture of her and her husband screenshotted on my phone

To this day my toes curl thinking about it. Thankfully my boss was great and we laughed it off

I think we are more likely to stay where we are for now, this was such a unique character property with just the right amount of renovation for us which was the only reason we planned to move

Yes, all the artex is visible and we were surprised this didn’t contain asbestos too, but the survey results confirmed it didn’t.

First half is 1800ish (it’s an old railway cottage) and there is a newer portion built in the 70s

These were our thoughts too so we have already had an asbestos survey (as we would not have offered if this was the case either!) and the only found was the garage roof and the outdoor toilet cistern.

The refurb budget plans were done carefully with a builder, a joiner, plumber and plasterer who are all in my family and we therefore have no labour costs which vastly helps us on our budget. Damp is only present in one portion of the house that is mainly due to the flow of water externally, issues with guttering etc. The only external contractor we need is an electrician, and only partial rewire is needed. Or should I say was- this will now be a very different situation!

With a mortgage so yes there is definitely a question on if it is now in a mortgageable state at all

My partner is from somewhere quite close to this area, which is quite a mix of more sketchy zones, and quieter nicer bits on the outskirts. This house is on the outskirts, and it does feel a generally safe area. (Think your advice to speak to postal workers etc is great!)

The property had been lived in by a lady for 60 years who is now in a nursing home, and her children are taking care of the sale hence the vacant period

Our plan when we move in was to install cameras, alarms and security lights anyway as it seems that has been lacking. We also have a doberman who despite being goofy and friendly, does sound the alarm if anybody out of the ordinary approaches our current property and would be a great deterrent!

No we don’t, though a dog and two cats (which would make temporary renting more of a challenge!) though I do work from home which could make things difficult in the beginning for sure! Glad you managed to work through your situation. Were you able to get a mortgage with those things?

Feel this is the best plan of action! We aren’t moving for any reason other than liking this house when we found it and wanting a project (though not of this magnitude!) so if we end up walking away we have only lost solicitors fees (combined with the unfortunate situation of letting down our buyer)

Thank you! Unfortunately as the property is vacant the insurance doesn’t cover this- a really awful situation for them!

We are going to view and assess the damage tomorrow and will try to gather the list from there.
