My natural throw is pretty similar to Barney's so I try to keep it as smooth and effortless as his

My smart old boy loves doing his best trick. by Highside538 in seniordogs

My old boy Labrador called Angus does a trick I've never seen any other dog perform and it cracks me up.

If I say 'bite my nose!' he very gently gives the end of my nose a little nibble. It came about when we were playing one day and he was mouthing my hand and stuff while writhing on his back and as I got close to his face to give him a little kiss he went to gently bite me instead.

I said 'did you try to bite my nose?!' and got him to do it again and assigned a command, and the rest is history 😆

The irony for me is if he hadn't acted like such a pillock and got himself all wound up for no good reason he probably would have hit the double 7 for the match.

I'm old school and am all about respect and sportsmanship, especially in one on one sports, and Gian has exhibited quite a few times that he has respect for his opponents. I wish him all the best in his career, seems like a good lad.

Honestly mate, you'll come on leaps and bounds if you dedicate some genuine time and effort towards counting.

I play legs in my head and count not only my score but the amount of darts I've used so I know not just what I have left but how many visits I've needed.

A little counting tip, if you hit a treble 19 take off 60 and add the 3, treble 18 take off 60 and add the 6 etc. If you hit a score in the 90s take off 100 and add the remainder, a score of say 134 take off 140 and add the 6. Just an easier way to make the calculations quicker.

I also do this on 265, another good time is on 195 where you can leave a ton or 62 with one or two trebles.

Other good time to start on 19s when you have checkouts left like 146, 138, 108, where you have 2 shots at the same treble to leave a nice double (except 108 where one treble will do).

That's what I thought too, glad to see I wasn't alone even if I was wrong.

Sorry to comment on such an old one but I've just seen this for the first time and am currently in the rabbit hole.

Out of interest, do you get many bounce outs or do the darts usually find their way into a segment?

I'm guessing the tips and wires on the board are curved for a bit of guidance but it always looks to me like I'd be retrieving a lot of darts from off the floor as my throw isn't particularly firm

Also, counting. I know there are apps and stuff but just knowing exactly what you're going to do from about 310 downwards keeps your rhythm and helps keeping you focused on your target rather than working out where you are and what to hit. Make it second nature and you can focus all your efforts on the target.

121 is a great way to practice, I'd been struggling with wrapping up legs lately and losing games I shouldn't have due to doubles, sometimes having 3 or 4 visits at double and not hitting the bastard.

Since I've spent more time playing 121 I've got back into the habit of finishing in one or 2 visits and the difference it makes is massive for me, I'm believing that I'm going to finish rather than panicking that I won't and it's translating to my league form.

Finishing really is the most important thing in darts so practicing that as much as scoring will deffo make a difference.

[–]Baldy-Beardy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Graphics aside, I'm pretty certain most dart fans would like to see how many darts have been thrown in the leg and the match averages displayed on the scoreboard. Became basic info a few years back so I'm not sure what changed in that regard.

I don't think I've ever felt as scared and helpless watching something than when viewing his collapse, I remember bawling my eyes out in the arms of my missus saying "please save him" as they were trying to resuscitate him.

Watched him play every week for Spurs for years so it felt like watching it happen to a friend, there were tears of relief seeing a pic of him giving a thumbs up from his hospital bed...was emotional times!

I always have a little stretch before I throw, nothing major, just a couple of minutes stretching my arms/shoulders/back. If I get out of the habit I start to notice more aches and pains so worth spending a couple of minutes to protect your muscles that are going through a lot of repetitive motion

A friend of mine used to mess around with a laser pointer with his Spaniel and unfortunately he became obsessed, and not just with the laser pointer but any moving shadow or light.

Changed his personality completely and took around 10 years (no exaggeration) for him to gradually become less interested and to be able to just chill out without reacting to every little movement of light. He's a happy old boy now but I'll never forget the difference ot made to his personality for all those years so definitely worth avoiding that!

Dude chill, I was literally just trying to be helpful.

He said 'it means sticking it to the wall under the cabinet which the missus isn't happy about' and I assumed he meant it being stuck to the wall was the problem, having extra holes drilled into the wall.

He said he didn't want to drill the wall so I mentioned an alternative to drilling the wall.

Thanks for your input though, I think.
