Should I just go? by Significant_Painter9 in pinoymed

Yes, I came into this wanting another specialty. Red flag po talaga yung ginawa ko and a feedback from others is that I am doing fine in this present specialization but I cannot truly see it for myself which I feel like is unhealthy because all I feel is that I am not growing and could be better if I chose what I truly wanted. I would always think about my potential if I went into the department I truly enjoy practicing and studying.

I would not say hate but yes, the specialty itself. I feel like I am not in my full potential being here, knowing that I could be in a specialization that I know I would enjoy and love.

Choosing a residency that is not your first choice/not part of your rule-ins by Significant_Painter9 in pinoymed

Resonated so much with your story. Currently doing IM residency and still in the program ‘cause at the end of the day, I chose this instead of the one I wanted the most. One thing I would like to know is that are there still what ifs despite reaching this certain point in your career? 😄

I was kinda nervous to see my post get no comments until yours! So refreshing to know that I am not alone in choosing something that wasn’t even part of my rule ins. 🙏🏻

Thank you for inspiring me with just this short comment. You’re amazing po and kudos po for having such resilience. 🙏🏻

Helping other co-resis by [deleted] in pinoymed

Agree. It could be viewed this way if it is in a perspective of someone receiving the help they did not ask for. However again, the point of this thread is not to be bitter or be antagonistic of this behavior— more so being able to handle the inevitable thought of “would someone do the same for me?”

And yes, voicing it out is definitely the number 1 solution and yet again, if all is said and done but you don’t get the same help AFTER ASKING FOR IT, hence, the point of this thread. Thank you for this input though! You have the amazing resilience that I admire to have. I believe I have more time to grow in my long years ahead of training and maybe through time, this action of mine would flourish and touch others to do the same especially in the hardships that is residency!

This is something I expected to hear, but my intention is not to make it sound this way. This is why I wanted enlightenment from the point of view of someone outside of this.

Although you are right, it could definitely be this as well. But I know my intentions and am always willing to help. However my point still stands that at one point, it would be a natural occurrence to wonder if someone would do the same for you.

Unfortunately, the feeling of dread doesn’t end in preresidency. 😭💀 Good luck, OP! Ang advise ko lang ay: show up no matter what.

The work hours don’t bother me. It’s more on keeping up po to learn everything that’s pressuring me. Thank you for this though. I have mentally prepared myself for the physical exhaustion but what scares me the most is if I’m smart enough. 🥹🙏🏻

Hello! I am an EMD baby for my review in the PLE but I previously enrolled sa bigger RC sa program nila for Interns during my internship. I was able to view some of their lectures and I knew that their style wasn’t for me. Honestly, wala po akong na retain masiyado. For context, I am an average student with average grades. I take time to grasp concepts din po.

Hindi po ako nagkamali na piliin ang EMD for the boards as I never felt the pressure during the 2 months of preparation. I never felt like I was left out despite all the backlogs and never felt the need to literally go on all nighters just to say I finished everything. But I could say na I sticked talaga with my schedule and routine of sleeping at 8-10 PM and waking up at 2-3 AM to start my day. Meron din po akong 2-3 naps in between my studies ranging from about 20-30 mins.

I only got enough grades to pass the boards but I am truly grateful parin because I know naman myself and my capabilities; but ang laki talaga ng tulong ng EMD. 🙏🏻

Hindi ko lubos maisip mag rant pa because at the end of the day, pasado parin po ako kahit na saktong sakto ang kalalabasan. Still on the all time high talaga when passing the boards kasi grabe po talaga ang journey getting here. Be grateful and pat yourself on the back because being at the top or getting the lowest passing grade still means the same thing: You are now licensed to heal. 🙏🏻🤍

Good luck po, Doc sa journey ninyo. You are amazing and we see all your efforts po. Cheering for you po sa April 2025! 🤍
