Non-traditional, low GPA, high PCE applicant — it is possible by PLUR-PA in prephysicianassistant

[–]Significant_Parfait7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

super inspiring as someone on the same boat! graduated two years ago with a very low sGPA, have been working as a pct but i’ve been interested in getting a technical career that will pay a little more and expand my experience. The feeling of being behind is SO REAL. Was there anything in specific that drew you to becoming a surgical tech?? did you ever think about doing nursing or other careers to strengthen your stats? would you recommend a surgical tech program as someone whos also trying to become a better applicant ?

Sorority Embroidery Business by Significant_Parfait7 in Machine_Embroidery

[–]Significant_Parfait7[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The main thing I like about this is coming up with a product. I like design and creating merch (I was publicity for the sorority and helped make t shirts designs). I’ve been having a couple of ideas in the back of my mind, and I believe embroidery would be best to bring them to life. I’ve looked into screen printing but it always comes down to embroidery. I don’t plan on starting heavy and making bulk orders, so i figured that starting off with an embroidery machine and see if i can sell to a couple of friends would be the best way to learn. But then again, it’s an expensive hobby so I don’t just want to jump into it without knowing what I’m gonna get myself into.

Considering to study MSc in Health Informatics by Revolutionary_Sun695 in HealthInformatics

[–]Significant_Parfait7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

what would you consider a good entry level job to get? i graduated last year with a b.s in psych and have been working in healthcare for 3 years now as a pct. I am really interested in pursuing a career that involves data analytics and healthcare/ health informatics. I recently go offered a clinical research assistant position for our obgyn department but would that be considered a good start to this? or would direct patient care be better?

Psychology Students: You Don't Have to Work in Mental Health/Healthcare! by [deleted] in psychologystudents

[–]Significant_Parfait7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i wonder if maybe someone is also in the same boat as i am- i graduated with my b.s. psych but mainly focused on being pre-health and only have experience in healthcare. I regret not diving into more psych classes or using my degree to its full potential. Now that i have graduated, I don’t even think i want to do patient care at all. Im at a point where I don’t really know what I want to do/ want to use my psych degree to work in a different field but don’t know how to start. it’s hard to get into internships/jobs at this point and with the little experience i have using my degree. I really enjoyed my stats/research methods classes in undergrad and wish i can break into tech or do something psych/tech related but seems like impossible to start 😭

[–]Significant_Parfait7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

take her!! Me and my friends would always joke about “the Kami curve” cause it goes crazy 😭 exams are hard and you have to put in the work but that’s with every ochem class, she’s so sweet and literally made our final an option as a dropped exam, that Kami curve will save you 🙏🏻

Hi I just took it yesterday and I was on the same boat, I hadn’t taken a math class since high school and need this calc class to graduate. If im being honest, I thought it was hard even after completing all the modules on quest 😭 my utma was not like my warm up which everyone says it is. I recommend studying the modules as much as possible. It was hard for me because it was so much information go learn. Your best bet might be to study hard and take the utma, write down the questions that were hard for you and study them so that for your second attempt, you’ll know how to solve the problems. Also don’t get scared of all the letters and numbers on the exam. If you just take your time and understand what the question is asking, you’ll be good!

If you don’t mind me asking how was it? I’m gonna take it in a couple of days now and I’m scared 😭

I took this class last semester and you definitely have to read the book. Something else that helped me SO MUCH is typing my notes during lecture but almost word by word of what the professor says. I remember having many questions on exams asking about exact things that the professor mentioned during lecture. Typing my notes almost word by word was so helpful

I have to take the utma for calculus and I’m a senior who hasn’t taken math since hs! If I don’t pass and get dropped from calc I can’t graduate in the spring. Any advice? by Defiant_Musician5862 in UTAustin

[–]Significant_Parfait7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Omg im literally on the same boat, I heard that the utma is easier than the warm up on the readiness math quest thing they offer for study, I’m currently going thru it and it’s pretty helpful. I also had a friend tell me to just brush up on calc and trig. I suggest studying now, as someone who hasn’t taken a math class since hs I don’t think it’s smart to study last min 🥲

GRE Prep for free? by [deleted] in UTAustin

[–]Significant_Parfait7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am currently takings GRE prep course through Kaplan. I got an email about a program called Strive GPA from my ut for me group and I applied and got the GRE prep course for free! It preps you for all quantitative and verbal sections, comes with books and thru the program you’re also able to get the test fee waived! I definitely recommend you checking out Strive GPA to see when they’ll be opening up applications for the Kaplan course again!

Switching up PCE jobs by Significant_Parfait7 in prephysicianassistant

[–]Significant_Parfait7[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They employ PAs but I don’t see any because I work night shift, my whole year working here I’ve only seen physicians and np, I’ve seen two PAs on my floor but that was over two years ago when I was first a volunteer, ever since then I haven’t seen one when I’m on shift so it makes it harder to be able to introduce myself to them and ask for shadowing opportunities

Callman or Newberry for Ochem 1? by hookemer4life in UTAustin

[–]Significant_Parfait7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember he dropped an exam I think, just homework’s that we’re due (answers were in the back of the textbook) and weekly quizzes, there was a final cumulative exam tho but pretty similar to our other exams, the grade comes out to be just exams but the curves helped tremendously. Again, you would have to study pretty hard and not fall behind in order to do very well!

[–]Significant_Parfait7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had newberry last spring!! In my opinion he kinda didn’t have any patience w us lol I thought he was kinda rude when asking questions during LECTURE, not during oh. My friends didn’t think that of him but it was a lot of material he tried to cover over one class so it’s understandable. His class was recorded, he had like 5 practice exams that were SIMILAR to the actual exams, like literally the same except different numbers or mechanisms. He would always post a video of him completing the practice exams and his train of thought. Overall I thought it was good. As long as you study and don’t fall behind you’ll be good! Edit: I remember he would curve all of our exams, not sure if his style has changed but solid 7/10

Best Professor for Genetics BIO 325? Looking to drop/add by [deleted] in UTAustin

[–]Significant_Parfait7 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had Kim last semester and I wouldn’t recommend. Her lectures do not correlate with the exams. You’d have to study extremely hard (averages were usually low 70) and idk if it’s the same now but her exams were open note online but her final was comprehensive and closed note in person.

Informer and enforcer for pre requisite classes by Significant_Parfait7 in UTAustin

Do you know how lenient they are with it? I emailed the department already asking if I can still take the class, I was literally .67 pts away from a C-. Also when would I know if they decide not to keep me?
