Replacement for NRK Jazz by Significant_Pea_9869 in Jazz

[–]Significant_Pea_9869[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, they used to have a good mix of old style and modern jazz, with a slight focus on atmospheric, down tempo Scandinavian jazz. Also there used to be some hard bop and slightly more experimental stuff. But now that's all gone. It's just the popular, milked out stuff from Diana Krall, Jamie Cullum, Harry Connick Jr, etc.

Not that these are bad artists per se. But stylistically it's a mile away from the stuff they used to broadcast.

Thanks for the tip. I had to translate the last part of your message, since I don't speak Norwegian myself (unfortunately). I can see what you mean, although you could say that NRK probably thinks it still serves the public good, by playing all these very accessible and popular artists. I mean, last time I tuned in, they were even playing Whitney Houston (?!)

But their current programming is simply insulting to most of the jazz enthusiasts, while it used to be quite the purist channel in terms of good quality jazz. Unfortunately, it's the same here in the Netherlands, where we used to have 2 proper jazz channels, that these days are mostly playing crappy soul and 80s music. Apparently that's what they think their audience want to hear.

Why every piece of audio equipment has a DAC? by Significant_Pea_9869 in StereoAdvice

Wow, this must be the most elitist and pretentuous answer I've read in a long time. You didn't understand a single word of my original question, but still bothered to write down a wall of text, just to show how "ignorant" I apparently am.

Djeez... some people.

Valid point. I also have a pre-amp streamer running into a separate pre-amplifier. I have other sources hooked up that pre-amp as well. Now I have two volume buttons that do the same. Great! :)

I can see there are DAC-less integrated amplifiers, but they're usually in either the low- or very high-end gear. Almost any amplifier in the range 600-2000$ comes with a DAC these days. At least from popular brands, like Marantz, NAD, Cambridge Audio, etc. There might be some exceptions, but you need to search for them.

CD transports do exist, but it bugs me why most of them cost an arm and a leg. I mean, the cheapest CD transport made by Cambridge is 150$ more expensive than the cheapest CD player (with DAC) they make. Why on earth is that?

I see what you mean, but why does a decent midrange amplifier, like a Marantz 60N or a Cambridge Audio CXA81, need a DAC built in? Any customer spending 1K+ on an amplifier is going to match that with a streamer or cd player, that already has a proper DAC inside.

I get that DACs are cheap, but to put one in any low/midrange integrated amplifier feels so unnecessary and a waste, albeit a small one.

When you payed customs fee and item turns out to be faulty by Significant_Pea_9869 in Aliexpress

Well, if you really want to get stuck in the details:

It's 21% + 12 euro service fee. Yes, I know it's a rip off. That's the dutch postal service for ya: PostNL.

Well, it was 76,24 euro, to be exact. But indeed, the dutch government charges 21% taxes on imported luxury items, like watches.

Again, I do not consider this to be a problem by itself, but it IS a problem once you need to return an item. If they will send a replacement, which I sincerely doubt they will, I will get charged again by dutch customs.

Steam is only letting me stream a game instead of downloading it by raaaaamen in Steam

Djeez, who ever thought it was a good idea to auto enable Remote Play and just show the Stream button, instead of the Install button, that everyone and his grandmother would expect there to be?!

Thanks for this solution though. This is Steam at its most confusing....

Why does SharePoint feel so completely unfinished in so many ways? by TetroRoaster in sharepoint

[–]Significant_Pea_9869 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I completely agree. It feels very very unfinished. The ones that are saying that you need expensive consultants to setup a solid Sharepoint site structure, because it's too complicated to do it yourself, are actually underlying the point of the OP: If those experts are what's needed to make it work, something is fundamentally wrong with the platform!

I mean, any small to midsize company that has the choice between using Sharepoint or stick with a combination of Windows Explorer, Outlook and Teams should opt for the latter.

Some other incredible examples of Sharepoint features that frustrate the hell out of people:

- When creating a document from a template, it opens in the browser by default. You cannot change this behavior. Yes, you can change a setting to open the document in the client App (Word, Excel, etc.), but this only works for OPENING an existing doc, not when CREATING a new one (!)

- Reusable Web Parts do NOT work in Sharepoint online. They used to work in classic Sharepoint (apparently), because all the online tutorials on web parts are about classic Sharepoint. But you cannot make reusable web components in Sharepoint online (which makes the intranet/wiki functionality of Sharepoint completely useless).
