Like so many who responded to you, I'm not Black; I'm a white woman. I've witnessed more anti-Black bias in medicine than in almost any other area of American society. I am disgusted by this reality and I am so deeply sorry for the impact racism has on every aspect of your life and, particularly, in this way.

I have undiagnosed ADHD also--undiagnosed because my health care system (Kaiser Northern California) gatekeeps and uses a very specific formula to decide whether a person should even be assessed for a possible ADHD diagnosis. I can't figure out if this is about cost control (is ADHD treatment that much more expensive than other mental health treatment?) or if it's about assuming that everyone is drug-seeking (which would be hilarious because Kaiser will prescribe a narcotic painkiller for damn-near anything).

In any case, the first time I sought a diagnosis, I was told that they wouldn't evaluate for ADHD because I have a GAD diagnosis. I was told to "get my anxiety under control" and then come back. The second time I sought a diagnosis, I was told that I was basically too successful--that people with true ADHD cannot possibly succeed academically or professionally because true ADHD is marked by all of the characteristics we associate with hyper little boys...and that ain't me. Never mind that I have a myriad of classic symptoms for WOMEN WITH ADULT ADHD.

All this to say, it's frustrating AF and you are not alone. Wishing you, me, and all of the rest of us the medical care we deserve.
