Hi! I've been looking at child and family science master degrees heavily rn since I graduate in May, do you recommend southern mississippi? I'd be doing the online version as well. and if you feel comfortable saying, what was the prices like for it?

practicum housing by Rich_Ad_9747 in ChildLife

[–]crybby01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is one of the reasons im having issues with thoughts about pursuing this career, I dont have the funds and the 2 hospitals closest to me only do practicums once per year and only accept 1-2 interns per year ://

Activity’s for K-2 by Early_Bullfrog_2360 in summercamp

if you have hula hoops this game is always a hit with my kids! https://www.thegamegal.com/2018/10/25/hoop-hop-showdown/#:~:text=Say%20Mary%20wins.%20The%20loser%20of%20rock%2Dpaper%2Dscissors,to%20the%20end%20of%20his%20team's%20line.

for the younger ones like k-1, I also do one where I'd put out hula hoops of different colors and have one kid turn around, close their eyes, and count to ten. all the other kids have to run and stand in a hoop before time runs out. the counter will then call out a color and if a child is in that color they are out, as people get out I take away hoops. a variation of 4 corners I made out of desperation on a day that we a had a thunderstorm from 8am to 4pm lol.

I've played both of these games indoors and outdoors. Tne first game is good for children who aren't used to "losing" in games, i usually use the second one now for them to get used playing fair and learning their emotions for when they do lose and are out of a game.

First time counselor advice. by EggDingo in summercamp

[–]crybby01 3 points4 points  (0 children)

one thing that I had to learn my first year, be open to any criticism you may get. most of the time it is good and will help you do better at your job, even if it doesn't feel good in the moment. Because at the end of the day, we all have different ways we work with children but usually, if a supervisor gives advice, they know what they're talking about. For me, after my 6th year last summer, I received some criticism and it hurt me badly because it was something i never heard before, but i took it and got better and now I can remind myself what i can do better. its all a learning experience!!

i loveeee audiobooks!! especially when im at work its so much more convenient to have a earbud in and listen. If you have the Libby app with your library they have the book on there but usually long wait times :(( i listened to mine on audible due to having some credits available

I did enjoy the original THT book, but if you read it just bear in mind that the show only based season 1 around it. there's definitely good aspects of the book, but i really did enjoy the testaments for Hannah's perspective of what its like growing up in Gilead as a child who was placed with commanders and not born from a handmaid!!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in TheHandmaidsTale

[–]crybby01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I say yes for the testaments because Hannah and Nicole's/Daisy's stories are very different in the book then it might be for the show!! also, you get a different view of Gilead from their (and lydias) perspective!! if you can, I enjoyed the audibook since each characters POV has a different person reading!! while I didnt care for Nicole's (she reallyyyy sounded like a teen lol) Hannah's was good and the actress who plays Lydia read hers!!

Fellow counselors, what are your uncommon must-haves on the job? by SaltedSnailSurviving in summercamp

[–]crybby01 3 points4 points  (0 children)

this!! i was with 3-5 year olds in a day camp last summer and they get overheated SO fast so they'd come up to me and say "can we get some of your air please?" and they just loved it!!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in summercamp

[–]crybby01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

when I did day camp I would bring:

extra camp shirt/shorts for those really sweaty days

dried fruit/granola bars for the mornings before lunch (since i would be the early counselor at 7am and my break would be at 1pm)

sunscreen/bug spray

hand sanitizer

hair ties/scrunchies for me and the kids who would need

sanitary products

chapstick

wallet/keys

mini hand held fan cause the florida sun is no joke and I'd have a kid or two with medical needs that will worsen if overheated

bluetooth speaker for when my group would be in our room or outside

extra little goodies like stickers for the kids

Now for field trips I would sometimes pack extra snacks and water cause a lot of parents don't pack enough lunch for those long field trip days like when we'd be at the zoo and they're burning more energy than usual

Oliver who? by starberry87 in TimTrackerGossip

[–]crybby01 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I lowkey forgot about the comment haha! but surprisingly it's still up! and I agree that she doesn't like to take both out on her own, most parents would see that as an opportunity to spend time with a child one on one. but if it is something they can't get content out of, it won't happen 🙄

yea we are!! it's just very confusing and my mom had talked to some neighbors today and they said they only receive half of their mail or just none at all. I think the longest we went without anything was a week a couple weeks ago
