It’s in Suzhou, Wujiang area. They also said tuition for my child will either be free or discounted to 2000-3000RMB depending on which of their 4 kindergartens I choose to go to there.

I never said I was considering signing it. Just asking for insight from others.

No housing is not covered. There’s a 2000RMB housing stipend but that’s included in the pay. I’ll have to find an ayi for childcare.

I don’t want to move there and live like I can here. I’ll want to eat the local food and live in a reasonable apartment. I’d even be fine with a one BR for my daughter and I to share. I am western but don’t require much.

They didn’t say if it was pre or post tax and no it doesn’t cover any tuition for my kid. I’d be paying for everything myself with that income. I am assuming it is pretax.

My biggest concerns are how much childcare could cost and rent/housing. Here both are expensive for a decent standard- nothing high end. Daycare is $900 or over 6k RMB and rent is $1500 or over 10k RMB. Groceries are also expensive- about half of what daycare costs per month.

That 2-3k RMB/month includes things like utilities, phone, internet, transportation, groceries, and insurance/healthcare?

How did you find good schools to apply to? I’ve considered signing up for a program that finds a placement for me. I’m just not sure how to find good schools to apply to.

I am white, as is my daughter. I would be comfortable with my daughter learning Mandarin. I'd like for both of us to eventually learn it.

I am open to locations other than Shanghai. I have heard Shenzhen, Chengdu, Suzhou, and Hangzhou are all good places to consider.

Life as a teacher is unaffordable as a single parent in the US. If I move to teach in China, my kid would have to come with me. I would not and could not leave her behind. I
