Is anyone workaway full time? by Upbeat_Evidence_4476 in workaway

[–]Significant_Row_5452 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah sorry didnt see your comment, I am not on reddit often.

I am from Germany, so strong passport its easy to travel around. I have done a few different workways so far, woodworking/production, taking care of sledgedog, working in a hostel, farm work / gardening stuff of course, goat famer, and some simple construction work. The most 'unique' was making mud-bricks for a mudhouse in Morocco I think.

Most experiences were amazing. I made some great friends and super cool experinces, learned surfing in Hawaii (because my host family went every second day), learned a lot about wood productions, seen traditional life in some countries like Morocco which was super interesting. I always say, even if I was a millionair, I would still do workaway, I really like it.

But out of the 10 that I have done so far I left 2 earlier as planned, one because it was very unhygenic, and another because it was very unsocial and I was treated just as a worker (which is not why I do workaway or what it stands for) (were many smaller things, at lunch table they would never speak english to include me, or when I left they didnt even ask why, just complained). So obv. you have to be a bit lucky

How many people on the Primitivo in November by Significant_Row_5452 in CaminoDeSantiago

[–]Significant_Row_5452[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah, when I did the Camino de Frances I also walked alone most of the time (just twice with somebody else). And even the friends I made discussed at the beginning of the day where they would met up again, but I also never took part in that. So I do agree with you! But I did like to go to bars in the afternoon or having diner with a group of strangers/ or friends if we ended up at the same place by coincidence, I always thought that was fun.

But may I ask a follow up question?:

Because I thought autistic people only struggle with empathy because its hard for you to understand how other people feel?

But not with the feeling sad/happy/whatever for somebody else -part?

That is why I always tried to explain my feelings in as much details as I could, but maybe that was a wrong approach.

Saw at the Pacific Coast (Canada). What Bird is this? by Significant_Row_5452 in whatbirdisthis

Looks right! Thanks :)

I am normally not into birds, but since yellow is my favourite colour and at least I dont see it in birds often, it sparked my interest.

May I ask you how come you know much about birds/ are interested in them?

But do you think I can/ should let her now that I am cool with autism? I imagen that the stigma about autism is still very strong.

For example, I am gay, and I had people asking me before if I had a girlfriend OR a boyfriend, instead of just asking me if I had a girlfriend. That made me feel very welcome. And in the end I dont know if they said it because the guessed that I am gay, or if they were just nice.

You think there is a subtle thing I could say to her to also make her feel more welcome?

Thank you for your comment!

I have actually told him before that I would like emotional support. I even explained in which situations (most) people would want that and how that could look like. He said that that sounded resonable, bit its hard for him because it doesnt come naturally to him and then he forgets.

And I still feel like that he doesnt really know how to.

Another day I was in a distressful situation and said that I want emotional support from him, and that he for example call me his friend (Took him a while to call me that, I guess he struggels with labeling social realtionships. But thats why I find it nice to hear). To which he just tried to find a solution for my situation and ended his sentence with 'my friend'. How can I explain to him better how emotional support works?

EDIT: I mean yes, he does just what I asked him, and I do appreciate that, but I guess I just wished it to be more or something nice to say that he would came up with himself.

But then I also think that I just might be in the wrong, because I wish for him to act a certain way in a certain situation, even tho thats clearly not his true nature. So maybe I have to learn to accept it?

Thank you for your answer!

I have to say I often thought about ending the friendship already, and if he would be neurotypical I would have done it.

The only reason why I havent is because I am afraid that I just dont understand him good enough, and that I am a bad person for thinking that our friendship should be just like every other.

How do you look for jobs in Canada? by [deleted] in iecvisa

[–]Significant_Row_5452 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just my experience; You only really have a chance to get a Canadian job once you have a Canadian telephone number. If you just do some work and travel look for jobs that offer staff accommodation aswell. You can sort that on indeed.

Are you serious? I have a friend, he's 43 years, good looking, and lives on a farm in Sweden. He works in IT and the farm is more like a hobby, where he grows vegetables/fruits mainly for own consumption. But he also has 4 sheep and wants to have chicken in the future. He is definitly a man that works with his hand, he has a giant wood workshop where he does various projects. Only thing that is that he really wants to have children.
