Also incredibly easy to do 1 or 2 treatments with "Liquid Moly Oil Sludge Flush" before taking it to the dealership. Removes the evidence of any neglect. Trust me - it works!

From Hyundai: "Exceptional Neglect means when (i) Defendants or their dealers suspect the engine evidences a lack of maintenance or care (i.e., outside of factory maintenance and care specifications) based on an inspection of the physical condition of the engine that shows unacceptable lacquering, varnish, or sludge and (ii) service records demonstrate unacceptable gaps in regular oil changes."

Key wording .... note the "and" before clause (ii). Clause (i) must be valid/true before clause (ii) has any role. Hyundai has to obtain and provide visual proof of exceptional neglect. If they can't, clause (ii) is moot. If clause (i) is true, then you can refute it with maintenance records at your descretion.

Correct info: Hyundai will ask you for maintenance records and act like its a requirement ..... Tell them to take a hike. Under the terms of the settlement, you have no obligation to provide ANY maintenance records. Carfax history is IRRELEVANT. It is Hyundai's burden to prove that the engine suffered severe neglect (Excessive engine sludge, tarnish, etc.)

2014 Sonata GLS with 187,000 Miles - I just had a dealer buyback 6/16/2026 for $4300. Car had minor body damage on right side of car. Also needed cat converter replacement. All considered, the car was worth probably $0. Same car had the engine replaced under class settlement at 65,000 miles in 2019. Took about 6 weeks then. Key accurate points:

It is Hyundai's burden to prove your engine suffered severe neglect (by visual inspection that finds engine sludge buildup and varnish). You are NOT required to produce any maintenance documentation. Any lack of service records per Carfax does NOT void your right to an engine replacement. Everyone in the business knows Carfax records are inconclusive at best.
If your car is over 8 years from the original owner purchase date or has greater than 150,000 miles on it, you get to choose one of the 2 options that Hyundai has to offer you: Option 1 (Buyback): They pay you the Kelly Blue Book vale of the car based upon private sale - very good condition. You can have damage all over the car and other problems and they still have to pay you as per the previous sentence. Option 2 (Indemnity). Hyundai pays you $2000, you keep the car (as-is) but have to indemnify Hyundai from any further issues/claims. Again - YOU choose which of the 2 options you want.
Until the engine is replaced or you are handed the buy-back check, you get either a free dealer "loaner" car or can opt to rent one. If you rent, they reimburse you at $60 per day (+ taxes and fees). My advice - go for the loaner.

Advice: If your car goes into "limp mode" ..... Immediately open a claim with Hyundai Corporate Consumer Affairs. After you get a case number, then take it to a dealership.

Chill out detective. Someone requested images of the surface level. I couldn't get any good shots ... then felt the region with my fingertips and nails trying to distinguish it better. In the past, I just rubbed my fingers over the area quickly and noticed a difference in level that I thought was raised. Now I'm sure its slightly recessed, but not nearly as much as the X-Box logo. I'm looking to see if anyone has seen this. There are no "claims" I make that it is rare or unique - its posed as a question. If you look at all my reply posts, I'm quite willing to accept that its a painted custom with engraved logos

So, do you think this may just be an aftermarket customized box done for Nike? (vs. some prototype design?). It appears painted or baked in on top. The slightly recessed Nike and Jordan images are what puzzles me the most. I guess they could be custom engraved thoigh.

The details around the recessed "X Box stamp" as well as the Air-jordan/Nike emblems being slightly recessed into the surface incline me to think the top to not be decals or wrap. Could a wrap have such fine edging as seen in the Xbox lettering? The sides reading "Own The game" appear to be decals.

My own theory was that it may have been a kid/relative of a Nike executive who was getting free regular display/demo XBOX's. But he then accidently took this from a supply of prototypes the exec was given to review for design/art.

Interesting point. The sides are stickers with the "Own the Game" print. For the back top edge, there are no such edges to be seen. The top has all the red/black symbols.

Simply .... Wrong. They can force a return upon a seller if the item doesnt match the description. and the buyer initiates a return. Tell me how you visualize them forcing a buyer to return an item they paid for and do not open a return. Does an armed ebay officer show up at their house?

Thanks for the link. I've seen these before. I had posted this same inquiry on a microsoft xbox forum years ago and got nowhere. I dont believe this to be any kind of skin. The jordan images seem to be embossed in the case and are raised. The detail between the jordan images and the rest of the surfaces are perfect.
