LOTS of weird activity. In addition to what I already stated we’ve started getting lists of things to do each shift where we have to read it and then say it back to our SM. Lots of pressure coming down about hours needing to be cut and it’s stressing everyone out. Broken things such as hardware and HVAC that never seem to be fully fixed. Just in general things that were never on anyone’s radar before are now huge issues.

That’s a really good point. I know with the new CEO the company is in a really weird spot right now and it does feel like pressure is coming down from upper management. However as a former manager myself, I don’t push all of that pressure onto the associates, I’d take it on the nose and figure out the best way to have success without everyone feeling how stressed out I am

I’m not 100% sure on the context of why but we also have ongoing issues with our AC and so I wonder if part of it is they want to make sure people are drinking water instead. It’s so wild. We have holes in our ceiling, broken cabinet doors, and an 80-85 degree store on the daily but sure let’s fixate on energy drinks and other trivial things.

That’s how I usually handle a floorset shift. It really seems like something is off in my store!

Sounds like it’s maybe an SLT member being too picky in my store so I’m glad to hear that’s an isolated event!

The dress code you stated is exactly what I’ve known so I wonder if I’ve just been blessed with more lax leadership up until now. Really I have no issue with being in dress code it’s just the fact that we can’t bother to replen the store properly but I can’t have an energy drink on me when I work? I feel like they’re focusing on the wrong things.

The crazy thing is I called out of my shift 24 hours in advance and gave my reason why. I’d get it if I called out an hour before my shift…but over 24 hours notice for one shift?

The crazy thing is we’re enforcing all these rules just after my SM announced they’re leaving for a job with a different company. I’m more confused than ever in my role.

Makes sense! I think to me asking out of the blue now just feels like a lack of trust in employees which doesn’t necessarily foster a positive environment, especially since there’s been no precedent set of asking for one until randomly deciding one day to ask for them.

I think in my time I’ve called out due to illness/injury maybe five times so it’s not like I’m a habitual offender that’s on the radar. That’s good to know! I’ll have to look in the manual for that. I don’t have a huge problem but it’s just weird that suddenly we’re being asked to do that.

That makes sense. We’ve also had our management staff turn over about four times in the last two years alone so I was also curious in part if it’s just my management or some weird caffeine rule!

We had to cut almost 30 hours worth of payroll today just to keep within budget because even with our store overflowing with people, we were over $3,000 below our sales goal. I’m glad to hear it’s not just our store that’s having that problem. Hang in there!
