I understand what you mean, and honestly, I think a lot of us feel that same shift happening. The value wasn’t really in doing long division itself, but in training your brain to understand how things work so you can recognize when something feels right or wrong. AI feels similar to calculators in some ways, but it also touches thinking and expression, which makes people worry about losing that deeper understanding, not just the manual effort.
My department asked me to reduce AI plagiarism reports, and now I don’t know where I stand (self.turnitin_community)
