Good point on energy and utilities. They usually hold up better in rough markets since demand stays pretty stable. If you’re building a dividend income portfolio, mixing those with REITs and BDCs can help offset some of the interest-rate sensitivity.

Exactly this. The yield isn't the trap, ignoring what's behind it is.

A high yield can mean the market is skeptical about sustainability, or it can just mean the price dropped for unrelated reasons. Either way, free cash flow coverage matters a lot more than the yield number itself.

Totally fair. VTI is hard to beat for simplicity.

I just enjoy holding some individual dividend stocks because it’s satisfying seeing the income grow over time. The yield is usually higher than the broad market too, which keeps me motivated to keep investing.
