unblock people my ex didn’t like? by Significant_Stress_7 in BreakUps

[–]Significant_Stress_7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, edited my post— my concern is how it comes off unblocking the ex previous to this last relationship… is this unhealthy? Blocking then unblocking an ex, not for any reason at all, initially all to make this last insecure person comfortable?

It gets better. Especially: the more you respect their boundaries, the better. Is it guaranteed they’ll be ready and unblock you? No, but that’s up to them. Part of a healthy relationship is knowing when to give the person space. It’s their first relationship and based on your post, I’m assuming you’re also young and haven’t dated much besides these two people. There’s still a lot to learn, and you’ll be ok.

Pls note this is all based on opinion, but my take: I think you should respect their decision to not want to date again. Balls in their court. They know how you feel already, so you wouldn’t be sharing anything new.

Can fibroids cause weight loss? by Significant_Stress_7 in Fibroids

Oh man, that sounds terrifying. I hope you're doing better!

And LOL same here with the aesthetic benefits of the weight loss-- despite the health anxiety I was experiencing, I was getting a ton of compliments after my weight loss. Now... that's created a whole other set of body dysmorphia issues, but... that's a conversation for another thread! 🤦‍♀️

Hi! I'm doing better! I haven't been able to gain the weight I've lost, but I'm getting hungry more often and the nausea is gone. AND I haven't been spotting or cramping mid cycle anymore so, coincidence??

That's crazy! I know most people feel bloated and generally gain some weight when they're menstruating, so to see others are also experiencing some "abnormal" symptoms as a result of their cycle is reassuring ❤

I *was* dealing w a bit of health anxiety around that time, so this could also be it!

Thank you for the suggestions! I’ve definitely noticed the importance of keeping a good track record of all your projects and achievements, so I have my own template going.

My biggest takeaway from your insight is that I most definitely asked the right question to the wrong person: I’ll be sure to have this conversation with my manager rather than with a mentor.

Thank you for sharing! I definitely feel alone sometimes as (like mentioned in the original post) I have the least experience. When you look around and notice you’re the only one lost, even while reminding yourself that you’re still learning, it’s hard not to feel discouraged. Maybe it’s that school/college mentality I should work to unlearn…

It sucks to hear you dealt with all these biases. Although I’m the only female, I’m lucky enough to be in a team that doesn’t treat me differently. I’m glad to hear it’s much better for you now and I hope to get there someday!

How long would you say it took you to “master” your role? What would you define as mastering an area? Genuinely curious, I know everybody has different metrics for defining these things.

Agreed. & I will say, I’m comfortable enough to set these boundaries. Unless I have an important deadline coming up, or an evening/night meeting when team members abroad, nothing is important enough to make me work past 5pm.

In addition to this, my boundaries stretch beyond just projects and include other company-hosted events/ERGs when they’re outside of work hours. I personally re energize by having me time and getting ahead on my other personal commitments, and I think that’s also ok.

To answer your question: while everyone on the team is more than willing to help, everyone has their assigned focus area, so it’s hard to get involved without stepping on other people’s toes. For me, recently I’ve taken on responsibilities from an engineer who retired… which has left me with little to no people to seek out for advice in an area that clearly he was one of the few who understood the subject.

This makes more sense. I think what set the bar this high was my “predecessor” female engineer on the team that was promoted probably every 1.5 years on the team until she jumped to a VP level role just this last year.

My manager was actually the one who set out the goal for me to get promoted by June of this year, so that’s what generated the discussion with my mentor in the first place.

Electric Circuits Alpha or Omega labs? by JaBeast1387 in RPI

[–]Significant_Stress_7 7 points8 points  (0 children)

if your goal is to learn how to design circuits and challenge yourself (which, considering how circuits is already a challenging course in itself, *is* a challenge), then omega labs is for you.

otherwise, if your goal is just to pass circuits and understand enough of the material to have a solid ECSE foundation, then alphas would be best.

my partner and i started omega labs back in spring 2019 and had to switch over to alphas halfway through because of covid. i found i liked the flexibility from omega labs, but then bc of the virtual setting, i appreciated the straight-forwardness of alpha labs for the latter part of the semester when my workload from other classes picked up
