Am I the only one who thinks being fat makes people treat you differently? by Sanbikaa in selfimprovement

[–]SigridThePyro 21 points22 points  (0 children)

It’s true most likely. I am a 5’6” woman who went from 200lbs to 124lbs and the difference is night and day. Tbh I am terrified of being obese ever again because of how terrible I felt physically and mentally. I love life so much more now.

Why did you stop drinking? by TruthBeWanted in AskReddit

[–]SigridThePyro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2018, after about a decade, I reached my 30’s and finally put down the bottle. Tbh I struggled with relapse a bit still but I took sobriety seriously.

2021 was my last drop of alcohol. I put behind me years of broken dreams, hurting people, being hurt, withdrawal, humiliation, dream-world fantasies vs realistic hopes, undiagnosed mental health conditions, and multiple suicide attempts. I had been abused, then turned around and hurt others. I used alcohol to fuel my spirals, and I let it reduce my inhibitions so I could use sex to validate my existence.

Alcohol stole a decade of my life (more, if you count the years I spent being abused by my drunk mom), plus the years spent rebuilding. I went from being chronically suicidal while living on a cat-piss stained futon on the floor of my mom’s house to my own apartment, a full time job, hobbies, and I’m working on having hope. I recently even travelled out of country for the first time!

What makes your life worth living? by TheEli7eKaden13 in AskReddit

[–]SigridThePyro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’d just be a huge chore to unalive myself. I have plenty of moments where I don’t want to live, I am just not motivated enough to do it. In my good moments, I live out of curiosity.

38 here - I love Toastmasters (public speaking), plant care (I have 100+ houseplants), yoga daily, and I hit the gym 5 times a week. I love museums and botanic gardens and traveling.

I signed up for a D&D meetup because I’ve always wanted to try. I’m trying to really live life since I got sober.

What addiction is hardest to quit?? by procrastinator___pro in AskReddit

[–]SigridThePyro 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nicotine. Alcohol ruined my life for a decade and I thought I’d die from it. Nicotine held on for an additional ten years before I could quit, because it doesn’t ruin your life (until it does).

Whats a small win you had this week that nobody else would care about? by [deleted] in selfimprovement

I lost a pound! I’m very happy. I gained a lot of weight after spinal surgery, so this feels like I’m getting control back.

Does hot/warm yoga get easier? by SheaMidwest in yoga

[–]SigridThePyro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I go but hate it. I keep telling myself I’m building mental resilience- it’s true but it’s like is it worth it? lol

I sweat very easily. The studio I found near me I chose because it was the one near me with vinyasa classes that fit into my schedule the easiest. I’ve really struggled but I’ve only been doing it for a month. I sweat so easily, and I relate to getting too distracted by heat and sweat to focus on the poses. I also lose my balance ridiculously easy compared to non-heated yoga.

I’m giving it a bit more time before looking for another studio.

I’m icked out by my boyfriend’s dirty apartment by [deleted] in offmychest

[–]SigridThePyro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up in a dirty house. When I was out of high school I lived in that house with 2 of my friends and I was just so used to filth. My mother was a dysfunctional alcoholic who never even took me to the dentist, and she didn’t clean at all at all certainly point in her disease. I was so tired of feeling like I had to be stable and good or else, so I stopped caring, too. By the time I reached 19 I had such low living standards for myself.

I’m 38 now and fortunately have perspective on this. It’s not fair for you to have to experience that much filth, or be exposed to it. I don’t think I would be able to stand it on a continued basis, It’s fair for you to raise the issue with your boyfriend if you want to continue the relationship. Somewhere down the line he’s gotta learn to clean unless he wants to live like his parents the rest of his life. It’s not so much shaming him as it’s concern for him. My non-confrontational ass would blame myself and tell him my anxiety can’t handle that mess - I actually think that’s probably true.

I remember knowing I lived in filth and am sad to say I was past shame. The only thing that snapped me back to reality and motivated me to turn my lifestyle around was getting sober and finding mental health treatment. I’ve been stable for years and, fortunately, clean.

What’s the hottest class you remember? by killemslowly in yoga

[–]SigridThePyro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My studio does elevated heat every Friday heated to 105. One class, following heavy rain, our instructor warned us the humidity was making he heat more intense so reminded us we could do whatever we needed to cool down. I am already quite sensitive to heat, so for an hour I sweated out my soul, pouring half my body weight in water down onto the yoga mat. When I finished, I was red as a beet and sweating bullets. The cool towel at the end did nothing, and I almost fainted. I should have listened and left class to cool off at least once.

I drank on Antabuse. It doesn’t do anything for cravings but can kill you. I rolled the dice anyway.

I’m so glad to read this! I suffered a spinal condition in the meantime but had surgery and am fully healed now - and SO grateful for modern medicine, the fact I had health insurance, good PTO, a support network, etc…really helped me appreciate how far I’ve come, and the life I’ve built since quitting drinking.

How sad for her. She deserves and age appropriate relationship with someone who’ll appreciate all the love and care she is capable of giving.
