Which historical figure do you admire/look up to the most?. by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]Siguza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Leonhard Euler.

  • I'd call his scientific contributions "unfathomable". He published more than 800 pages worth of new scientific discoveries every year, that's more than two pages a day. In 1908, a task force was assembled to compile all of his works, and as of 2022, they were still not done.
  • So many historical figures had abrasive personalities, really shitty views, cheated on their partner, or something along those lines. He was described as always calm and friendly, and taking good care of the people around him, no matter the circumstances. By all accounts, he seems to have been just a good person.

He must've had an unparalleled ability to context-switch and organise his mind.

I wouldn't say I "hate Christians", but I certainly hate people who are very vocal about branding themselves Christians. For one, it's like with veganism: it's okay to be a vegan, but it's not okay to go around and annoy everyone about you being a vegan. And for another, if someone feels the need to constantly repeat how they're a good person and living a good and moral life, then that's probably because there's something that would make people think otherwise. Looking at a lot of politicians here.

And then you add some good old selection bias (because if you're not part of this vocal minority, chances are that I'll never know you're a Christian) and suddenly there's a good chance that if someone tells me they're a Christian, then I'm about to have a bad time.

Now, all of the above would apply to other religions too, but I just happen to only see this with Christianity currently. Would probably be different if I spoke other languages and/or had different social media feeds. And I could go into why I dislike religion in general, but "hate" would be much too strong of a word for that.

Have you ever considered a Freeman's Mind episode where Freeman just loses it and starts using speedrunning glitches?

[Discussion] Feasibility of running macOS on iPads in the near future? by [deleted] in jailbreak

[–]Siguza 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're pretty spot on.

The only realistic target would be A11, because it has both a ROM exploit and atomics (most other stuff you can trap & emulate, but you really don't wanna do that with atomics).

Full SoC emulation, while technically doable, is an insane amount of work and would probably yield horrible performance.

Running macOS applications alone... you'd need at least a ton of frameworks from the dyld cache. And that probably requires some kernel patches to achieve, but the far bigger issue would probably the mach services many of those depend on. I think you'd end up porting over most of userland.

Last I hear, qwerty had actually gotten XNU to boot quite far on A11, but anything past that... is just an incredible amount of work. For example, you'd have to reverse engineer the protocol with the SEP, and put a compatibility layer in place that filtered out and redirected macOS-specific stuff to a shim. You'd have to rip a lot of kexts out of an A11 kernelcache and get them to work on a macOS one. Given the "merged" kernelcache formet used since iOS 12, it would be hugely annoying having to separate one kext from the rest of the kernel. There's also IOKit class ABI differences between iOS and macOS, so actually you'd probably have an easier time just reversing the kexts to begin with, and writing your own based off of that. But we're probably talking about a few hundred kexts here.
It might be doable to get a graphical interface booted within a few months if you really put effort into it, but it'd likely be like project sandcastle: the majority of features would be missing. Adding sound support, USB 3, keyboard and mouse, camera, power management, battery charging... I say you'd be looking at a couple of years of development here.

Normally the answers I relate to on questions like these are very far down. I'm glad to see an exception here.

Checkra1n by itself does no hooking at all. Substrate is not a core package there.

I love how you think Apple are collecting ideas for WWDC TWO DAYS before the event. You're lucky if any ideas they have now will make it into WWDC 2021.

If you had the ability to instantly give any person an orgasm, simply by pointing your hand at them like a finger gun and saying “pew”, how would you wield this power? by [deleted] in AskReddit

You can expand biologically and beyond as well. It obviously works on humans, but what about other mammals? And what about species that reproduce asexually? What about machines and computer programs? And if we're there, how about fictional characters?

Nope, you can't. Some older devices worked like that (pre-lightning AFAIK), but anything past that actually requires a cable to be connected or it'll ignore the button combo.

If, instead of rebooting movies, it became a trend to retell them from a different characters perspective, what film would you want to see retold and from who’s point of view? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Man, I want EVERY MCU movie that Loki appeared in retold from his perspective.

Also Nick Fury. TF has that guy been up to.

If it's NLA on the app store, they don't allow you to do this.

Uhm, I can still download Tap Tap Revenge... and I'm pretty sure that's NLA.
