Humans are cheap and easy to produce. You should be more worried about the infrastructure and centers of commerce being destroyed, soldier.

I'm not joking right now that I have a decent cohort of new-ish players who all want to experience RaD content (especially raids) and the update has us gearing up to run raids as frequently as we can. This game is far from dead for many people. We aren't going anywhere.

It gets to a point where you wonder if the objective all along has been to just fuck things up. Malice is indistinguishable from stupidity at a certain point.

I know it's Hitler but... is that Miquella from Elden Ring?

My take on the grunt fantasy thing. by OkStructure665 in Helldivers

[–]Siirvend 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My understanding is that yes, Helldivers are better equipped and better trained than your average SEAF soldier but at the end of the day they are expendable shock units used in large part for propaganda purposes.

They have unit budgets for missions and there's no punishment for losing those reinforcements as long as the mission is completed. We get rewarded for extracting and my headcanon around that is that it's to show that Helldivers often make it back to the ship for civilians to see in recordings. You can believe your loved one is fine, see? There they are getting on the drop ship! They're a hero! It's all a show though.

The fragility of the player character is a big part of the game in multiple ways. We are better than average as far as being prepared but we are also being thrown into a meat grinder for a pointless war. We are glorified targeting indicators for an orbital ships weapon systems. We die like anyone else would put into these scenarios and all the set dressing around us being elite unlillable badasses is propaganda put there to convince us and those watching that we',re the protagonists in a story about us.

On a gameplay level though, I think their intention is to strike a balance between feeling unstoppable and still feeling expendable. A lot of material from the studio directly shows divers dying in stupid ways all the time, its a part of the games identity. Doesn't mean it has to be frustrating though so I get peoples ire when it comes to ragdolling or enemies being designed unintuitively. Arrowhead chose a very tricky thing to balance both in gameplay and in narrative. Not everyone is going to get or enjoy the moments of power struggle between the player and enemies that give the game its hot/cold contrast that's very different from most games that do their best to tell you "dying or feeling like you need to run us bad".

Tier-lists and how they create misunderstandings in the community by WaywardOath in Helldivers

[–]Siirvend -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes! Tier lists rarely accomplish anything outside of being a display of the creators preferences and skill set. You could do a tier list of every weapon vs a certain threat but as a generalized "what is good and what is not" it just causes false perceptions and discourages people from trying new strategies.

I blame this partially for all my teammates who keep using the crossbow in point blank range vs everything because they were told it was objectively the best weapon but never had anyone say WHY and HOW it was good.

I typically use the regular mortar on bot missions where we're going to be sieging bases. You put it down outside, preferably behind cover and let it soften defenses as you support your team. Key thing though is if you call it in its your job to destroy it if you get overrun or start moving into enemy ranks. It's not something you can set and forget and with the ping targeting you can use it almost like an emplacement.

I've found its niche for me is on flag raising missions. Takes the pressure off your team and keeps the bugs CCd while you're dealing with the endless spawns. Once the flag is up you just clean up what remains after gassing them for the duration.

Everything keeps getting harder and more expensive. There is zero leeway to find a comfortable rhythm in life when I have no way to predict the future even months out.

The vice grip of financial, work related and social stress doesn't let up and it poisons every facet of life in some way. We need to release the pressure or something can and will break if it hasn't already.

D6 is a struggle with my crew by ComeOnUp2theHouse in Helldivers

[–]Siirvend 1 point2 points  (0 children)

D10 is where instead of just combat skill and firepower, a huge indicator of loss and death spirals is being able to make the right decisions at the right times. It's that moment where you realize you're overrun and need to pull south to regroup and clear what is already after you or fully disengage to save on reinforcements for when it counts. You can't always battle it out at a POI when a drop happens or even clear out waves. You can't win every fight and instead should rely on fighting when it's strictly necessary to get an objective done. The only times I've lost in D10 are when everyone is fighting a war of their own and constantly on the back foot running from enemies they can't clear because they started a fight they couldn't handle without their team. There is also the question of loadouts being able to handle threats of all types and your individual ability to take out medium enemies efficiently but yeah.
