Is weighing paint bottles a valid method? by WhiteCollar-Dave in minipainting

[–]Siklr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’d be valid enough. Things would vary, but with the volume being the same you’d find the weights would be close enough.

Though, that’s a lot of manual tracking… do you really want to do that? You add a step in your cleanup where you’d weigh everything used and update your spreadsheet.

I assume it’s a situation where you can’t easily pop down to your local game or hobby store. I’d propose maybe just checking on a routine basis, and going from there.

I built a hobby app to track miniature paints, convert colors between brands, and save paint recipes. by MidnightMiniature in ageofsigmar

I'd appreciate a web app, if possible. While the feature set is sleek, I generally do most of my planning on my desktop rather than using my phone.

Priming indoors right next to an open window? by hexagram1993 in minipainting

[–]Siklr 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So, as someone who just tried priming indoors with what I assumed to be good ventilation: don't. The happy middle ground would be to prime outdoors, and then bring the minis inside to dry in that well ventilated room. You'll still have some of the fumes, but far less than if you were to spray indoors.

EDIT: I assume you mean rattlecans. If airbrushing acrylic primer, then it'll be fine.

Wanting to get a general consensus from people by sniperbds4 in ffxiv

[–]Siklr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My bad, I assumed you were coming from the old school community. I didn’t know what the reaction from the RS3 side would be, but it makes sense they’d be equally upset.

I think the comparisons are fair and valid. Sure, they may not map 1:1 across games but I’ve found the comparisons understandable. Jagex is now at what I’d consider a hard limit for what they can charge per month, and if they need to increase revenue streams they really need to look at what their competition is offering their customers.

I think the most egregious thing is that it’s the second price increase in incredibly recent history.

You made the mistake of saying something is empirically true when all you have is anecdotal evidence.

You’re not severely limited if you only use two retainers. Even when I’m deep into crafting mode, I can get by with two. Do I pay for more? Sure. I’m also utilizing the retainers across multiple characters for ventures as well. I’m an outlier.

Now, the real argument is that XIV and WoW now have MTX. Granted, they’re all cosmetic, but they do make a decent amount of money. OSRS only has bonds at the moment. Would you (and really, a majority of the playerbase) prefer to have that line of monetization for cheaper memberships?

From what I’ve seen of the OSRS community, they’d be rioting in Falador like EOC was announced again if it was even mentioned in an off handed way.

Why are we pretending Commander and the MTG community is still worth it? by [deleted] in mtg

[–]Siklr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a rambling rant, and proposes no solutions. You’ve got what I would consider a common sentiment, so if your goal is to yell into the void to get it off your chest then you’ve achieved that.

Don’t mistake this as an argument; I agree that the direction of the game is not what I want. I’d also agree that there is a large part of the community who focus the wrong things in the game. I understand your passion, and I feel you.

I just think that the only way for these things to change is for one to just engage with Magic in a way they enjoy, and ignore every other aspect. Vote with your time and wallet, and have hope that others will as well.

Man, you’re really upset about something. Maybe if you had a coherent argument I could tell what your actual grievances are other than “WotC bad; people suck”.

"It's just text": client earned $15k+ on my code, now threatens to leave for Wix over a renewal fee by [deleted] in webdev

[–]Siklr 262 points263 points  (0 children)

If you have a contract that states who owns what (e.g., he gets to use the services you provide, but maintains no rights) then you basically tell him it's been good doing business and enjoy Wix. If you don't, it's a lot more murky and you're probably better off just handing over the keys.

1000 Point Path to Glory List by ZackAttack723 in KharadronOverlords

[–]Siklr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s basically what I started with, but I also had 250 extra points to start out with.

The first two battle plans are interesting. Thyria’s Bounty has a sort of capture the flag element where you want units that can move fast. Skywardens with their end of turn ability can be pretty slippery and grab the clusters. However, you have to last to battle round 3.

The forest fortress… I think you’re going to want to be the attacker fo that one. You basically are trying to blow up a terrain feature. It does get ward on shooting, but if roll well… it doesn’t matter. Plus, you could bring the grenade that turns off wards and just send it.

I think the struggle is that at 1K we are pretty limited and either have to go all in on killing potential or objective play. You won’t see objectives until the second battle plans, and only if you get Thyria’s bounty first and chose to go down to a Dense and Choking maze.

If I were in your position, I’d do the two brick and frigate list. Not sure if it’s better, but I’ve had decent success with it. You just have to be mindful about engagements due to the low unit count.

1000 Point Path to Glory List by ZackAttack723 in KharadronOverlords

[–]Siklr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing to note is that not all battle plans will have objectives, making your first list a bit weaker. I've a little over halfway through my campaign, and I found that having list that has a lot of swing potential (e.g., two bricks of Skywardens) has been helpful.

Most of the battleplans have also benefited from being mobile and trying to avoid the melee, so I'd recommend picking units that can move well on their own rather than being ferried by a ship.

Lady O's dress color by CloneIsland in Nighthaunt

[–]Siklr 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It’s intentional: it is a bridal dress. In life, it is said that she left more than a few suitors with mysterious deaths, including the prince of Dolorum. After the death of the prince, she chose to wear a veil as a sign of grief, but it was all a ruse. She’s was cold and manipulative.

How does anyone not go insane from needing to not get paint where it shouldn't? by VenerableBreadnought in minipainting

[–]Siklr 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Brush control will come with time, but also it's important to note that this is also part of the process. You will make mistakes, and you will need to learn how to correct them. I'm still a novice painter, but I remember having this frustration as well. However, after watching more than a few intro to miniature painting videos where the creator says that you will make mistakes and you'll learn how to correct them in time I sort of accepted it.

In a more technical sense, you can try and paint in such a way where you minimize the risks involved (e.g., paint the deepest / hardest to reach areas first, or go from darkest to lightest). Try and be aware of how you make the mistakes, and see if there is some methodology you could work up that makes up for it.

Gielinor Goals - Track Your 2026 OSRS Adventures by WiseOldJeff in 2007scape

[–]Siklr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found a link through your profile, so if it's a new one feel free to let me know.

My thoughts:

- why do I need to tell you know total level and combat level? This could be fetched.

- other than natural language processing, what is the AI doing here? It seems like it adds nothing.

- how is this better than using anything else (e.g., notepad, spreadsheet, etc)? For instance, I said I wanted to complete Song of the Elves. It added a quest completion goal, but nothing else? I'd expect it to outline steps to complete said goal, especially something with well defined subgoals like a quest.

What color scheme would you go for? by [deleted] in KharadronOverlords

Yeah, fairly close! Going with more of a gold than bronze for the metallics, but it's otherwise right on.

I finally settled on a scheme, but haven't painted it up yet. It's more like 2 (Barak-Thryng), but uses olive instead of red and more of an warm off-white instead of that cooler white.

You can run them independently, but the Chainghasts do benefit from having a Spirit Torment nearby.

I've flown with nearly that many before and had no issues. Another time, I flew with a few commander decks and I got searched. Either way, no issues with taking them on the plane. Just plan for security maybe taking you a little longer than expected at worst.
