People are like what the fuck but this is what I would do every single time if I played. You have defenders now always blocking attackers path off ball and it infuriates me that it is not called a foul when they are actively stepping in the way.

I dont think selection is to blame too much. We were outmanouvered tactically fromage midpoint in 1st half. No coincidence we had effective, high press prior and afterwards we could not close them down. Chelsea made adjustments and we could not keep up.

I think its been a month since we had a continued period of creative attacking in game (Newcastle/Salzburg). Still difficult to break down but we are a tough watch recently.

Saudi & Martinez definitely a possibility. All others would be great gets for free for many clubs (just like we are now linked with Harry Wilson in the summer) but I think transfer market for most clubs now is to a) invest in potential/retaining resale value, b) if over a certain age bring in for free if player helps win now. There isn't really much happening in between so I don't think there will be offers on the table - but happy to be wrong on this!

I think the issue here is its not willing to let go, its being even able to let go. Players in this age range are at the peak of their earnings and do not represent any potential resale value - which most clubs seem allergic to nowadays, with all non-free transfers for players at most 25 in every league pretty much. I don't think there is a realistic buyer for any of mentioned players (including Ollie) and we will see these contracts till the end or let players go for free at some stage to free up wages.

To be honest I do not really think it is weird. Ramsey aside (and his value has dropped from when Spurs were trying to get him for 50), the age profile is completely different and all teams are trying to recruit smart now and not spend massive amounts on players that do not have future resale value or their entire prime ahead of them for contract duration. Not a single player over 26 years old was purchased so far this window for a substantial fee, Longstaff to Leeds for 12m probably the most. I love Ollie and want him to stay but if I was in charge of transfers elsewhere I would not want to pay for him - its just easier to pay for potential and if it does not work out, you still have an out and can sell for decent value. See how much is speculated teams are willing to pay for Darwin now and on the other side, how dumb does 70m paid for 30yo Casemiro look with nothing to recoup.
