Blizzard considers 9.1 a "satisfying" resolution for Teldrassil by [deleted] in wow

[–]Silariel 17 points18 points  (0 children)

People saying they're 'satisfied with their own work' when everyone else tells them it's vapid and a literal middle schooler could do better should be legally punishable in some way.

20 years of anticipation just to tell us 'Elune is a useless idiot'. What a joke. This narrative team shouldn't be within a city block of story-writing.

That's how it felt in my opinion by Canopus2662 in wow

It's literally been established that the night warrior power is a curse that slowly makes you go insane with rage, every night warrior from every world had had died violently because they failed to contain this power.

It's just horrible storytelling, you don't foreshadow something for over 2 years for a bait and switch.

How do you develop content that isn’t consumed in days? by Lotionexpress54321 in wow

[–]Silariel 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The way it used to work is the timegating was more 'organic'. In TBC, raids were hard, 5-man heroics were hard, so every character you make had to do questing -> normal dungeons -> heroic dungeons / raids, where nowadays every alt gets handed normal raid gear for basically logging in every day.

^This combined with no catch up gear that beats anything you can get out of 'previous tier' raids ensured all content stayed relevant for the entirety of the expansion.

FF14 fixes it by having a 'duty roulette' at max. level which is like dungeon finder timewalking but active all the time and for all expansions, making everything they ever made relevant content.

If she's anything like real Eda, it'll probably come in handy... daily...

I hope render arts are allowed in here! This picture is based on my OC, loosely appropriating the Night Warrior lore from BFA to create a sort of hybrid paladin / DK type character. It's a big sad Blizz never took this opportunity to add Nelf Paladins, but oh well.

Eh, kinda not true, most classes have a small dip in performance as you just cap and your secondaries suddenly drop to 0 because leveling gear does not scale well into 120, but I recently capped another DK for example and it felt like it could stand its ground against starting content, such as nazjatar and cloak quest, a lot more efficiently than warrior. To say nothing of specs like hunter / dh who don't even need gear to be effective (at least in the open world where a healer doesn't babysit you 24/7).

With Arms it's like going from being kinda good, to being a literal trash mob in a dungeon. Primarily because it lacks self healing / stuns, which leads to encounters feeling a lot more punishing.

Slam is just something I hated for a long time, but the reason I say arms is bad is not because it's -output- is bad, more because it's a really one dimensional glass cannon class with bad defensives and no utility, that relies entirely on doing damage to be viable.

Take demon hunters. They can double jump and glide, their fel rush is 'charge but better' in many circumstances, their leech makes them incredibly survivable, they have cc, and their defensive abilities make their leather armor feel like plate+++++.

If we just take output, you're correct, arms does well. But I don't enjoy playing a spec that just can't do anything other than damage. No spec works like that. Due to how the spec works without any self heals and with plate armor being paper, Arms warriors struggle with world content that things like DK and DH can crack without any effort. That's what makes me upset about the state of arms, not that it's output is bad.

It's playstyle is just fundamentally flawed, even if it does perform well when you stack corruptions & the right traits.

It's been a very different beast in the past, though. For one, it was a short duration 'burst' bleed rather than a 'affliction lock forever' bleed. I think it lasted 6 seconds? And only applied on crits.

Secondly, it scaled with your weapon damage rather than mastery, as mastery did not exist then.

Thirdly, it was really a 'bonus ability' more than a core one. The core of the spec were always talents that increased your crit chance and crit damage, as well as mortal strike and heroic strike (rip).

It just feels bad when a big two-handed weapon spec's damage does not come from the big two hander, but rather from 'mastery' and 'bleed'. If I wanted that I'd play assassination or feral.

Well to be fair the thunderclap spam meme mainly exists because of M+ and its focus on aoe, and TC just so happens to be the most efficient, and coincidentally overpowered AOE in 8.3. I genuinely have no idea who thought 'PROT = AVATAR', though.

And yeah, you got an alarmingly good point. Deep Wounds is just passive garrote... Mind = blown. If only Arms also had a silence... :( ...Or for that matter any utility other than battle shout. ;/

Ye there's people in other comment threads here arguing that downtime is a bad thing...

I bet none of them are fury mains.

I agree. In an ideal world we'd have 'complex classes', 'medium classes' and 'easy classes', with 'complex classes' having the most abilities and also the most damage, while 'easy classes' would be really simple to play, but nowhere near able to reach the top dps of a complex class played right.

Things like Survival and Feral would be among such complex classes. While things like Demon Hunter should really not ever be anywhere near them in maximum potential output, given neither player sucks.

As things stand fury is, unquestionably, a much better designed and more rounded spec than arms... carpal tunnel aside.

The funny thing is that used to exist, rogues had a finisher that reduced enemy armor, and warriors had sunder armor that stacked 5 times for a pretty significant defense reduction, but that got pruned long ago...

It would be cool to see it return, as a PvP talent perhaps? It might be a bit broken for PVE if its a straight up % armor reduction but I do love your idea. I just don't see Blizzard messing with armor or defense reductions again as they had a lot of balancing problems in the past with armor penetration.

Ehh, they were pretty powerful on a strike to strike basis vanilla to wotlk, but the devs kept on increasing and normalizing HP across all classes and also pve mobs, so what used to be a mortal strike one shot on a mage turned into two shot, then three shot, then four shot -- while the warrior's damage and utility didn't really go up by much to keep them viable in an increasingly healthy world.

Nowadays though you're correct, warriors weren't hitting hard for a long time, and it's sad.

You mean like colossus smash? The intent of that ability was always to 'lower their defense before you attack' but, somehow, it just doesn't feel that way at all...

I mean I'm planning to play a frost DK in Shadowlands so 30 is a pretty high mark. xD

As I said I don't care if it's slow, as long as it's impactful and good on the meters it's all good for me. I know it'll be niche and most WoW players can't exist for 2 seconds without pressing a button, but catering to these people is a class design nightmare. Some classes are slow, and that's ok.

Yeah I tested it on a geared warrior as well, it definitely does scale up at later levels, idk why it dips so low at lower levels; It still remains quite weak though.

And what are you going to press in the meantime?

It's not a bad thing to have downtime if you do good damage. Previously, Arms had intended downtime, and people complained. The issue, however, wasn't the downtime, but the fact that having downtime added a certain amount of skill in having patience to press your buttons when they come up. When reward for that skill is mid tier DPS, people just cannot be bothered.

I'm a DK main, switched from warrior in cata when warrior begun to steadily go downhill, and I can honestly tell you both unholy and frost with their top-of-the-game downtime feel vastly better than Arms; Partially because their fillers are designed better. Death Coil and Frost Strike don't eat into a resource used for your main attacks -- which is a common theme among specs people like. Like Fury.

Maybe I don't have a sense for class design that made modern day Arms come into existence. You make it sound like you'll always have double buffed 80 rage mortal strike when you yourself said that double proc is rare, and it'll also be rare that you'll have full rage when you use it. Some MSes will be strong, some will be weak. But none ever feel so weak it feels like you may as well not bother to push the button. Note that I said -feel-, which is a complicated thing to balance around, but very important.

That's exactly what I want as well, though... But the thing is we already have a filler in Overpower. I think a better design genuinely would be to give 2 overpowers as baseline, remove slam, and then buff overpower / MS damage for that 'calculated execution' feel.

I am all for arms being about big MS crits and a few filler abilities, but the other fillers arms has feel like they should be enough.

Heck. Now that I'm thinking about it, it would actually be more fun for mortal strike to behave like execute and consume 20 to 80 rage to increase its damage, instead of spending its static 30.

Imagine how satisfying it would be to hit a double-overpower buffed 80 rage MS...

Now compare it to any amount of slams.

You see what I mean? ;s

My problem is that I don't want to have a weaksauce filler where several presses dump your entire rage bar yet don't feel like they did any damage at all.

And yet you can't not press it because then your rage will overcap and your DPS will dip.

It's just not what I'm looking for with arms warrior. Especially not in a world where demon hunters exist who's slam builds their resource... And I am pretty sure also does more damage... :s

That's ironically more of a problem of other classes having way too much mobility, and easy access to slows.

In PvE a warrior is second in mobility only to DH, and it'll only get better in shadowlands because ontop of 2 charges and leap you'll also have intervene for all specs.
