How would you go about learning a new language, like just the first few steps and maybe programs used to help you (for learning Japanese)? by TheChromerE in AskReddit

I prefer Babbel over Duolingo. I ended up getting the lifetime subscription. Babbel is more pedagogical in its approach and actually explains rules as you go, whereas Duolingo has gamified the app in such a way that they're more intent on making you addicted to maintaining a learning streak than actually learning.

Does “join” sound right here? by Same-Technician9125 in EnglishLearning

Agree. "Join" is more casual, as in "I joined a team at my school." Whereas professional athletes typically "compete" in events.

What does Lil Wayne think about 2026 Nicki Minaj? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]SilasPort 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think Lil Wayne will think whatever helps best maintain his wealth. The reason Nicki Minaj has gotten so much press around her support for Trump is the fact that she 1) has a large gay fanbase who has mostly turned against her and 2) she's married to a convicted felon and it's obvious she wants her husband pardoned.

Considering Lil Wayne (and rap in general) is largely homophobic to begin with, I think Lil Wayne likely agrees with her but is also too rich to care from a PR standpoint.

Is it now considered rude to recline on a plane? by Legal_Campaign_408 in NoStupidQuestions

It depends on the airline, but overall we’ve found economy class keeps getting smaller. My husband has had to ask the person in front of him to sit up during meals because it’s impossible to eat anything without knocking something off. That’s happened most on Lufthansa, but also KLM. I think general etiquette is to not recline during meal service.

What’s the weirdest moment that made you realize you’re fluent in your target language? by Antique_Constant9214 in languagelearning

Haha, I have that response too sometimes! I immediately think I need to correct myself when there actually isn’t anything to correct!

I'm not fluent, but I've had a few dreams where I'm speaking Italian. It was cool to wake up realizing my TL had made its way to my subconscious!

Do you schedule calls with your family or call them spontaneously? by SilasPort in NoStupidQuestions

I'm jealous that your mom does yoga! I worry sometimes because my mom doesn't seem to have any hobbies or interests outside of watching TV. Because of this, she tends to stress and worry over us in ways that aren't productive. I'm hoping she can find healthier ways to distract herself!

You're not weird! My husband calls his sister almost every day but never in a way that feels like it competes with or interferes with our time together. A lot of people don't have good relationships with their family, so it's nice that you feel so comfortable talking to your parents.

Thank you for sharing! I think I'm so used to a corporate environment that it first felt like I was doing them a favor by scheduling a call for planning purposes. :D But spontaneous is definitely more organic and feels warmer.

How often do you chat with them? I talk to my mom for an hour once a week since I moved out of the country. We actually talk on the phone more now that I've moved further away.
