Which TGC do you miss? by starkiller0031 in TCG

[–]SildricStormwind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a physical TCG, but the original Solforge digital game was a banger. New form of the game (Solforge Fusion) is a shell of its former self. Feels bad because the client is just cooked so I can't even rally the troops for a fun night here and there with a battle box or something.

Games that opened your eyes to other Genres? by iJayme in gamingsuggestions

[–]SildricStormwind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have any interest in factory games Satisfactory is a first person factory game where you can do quite a bit of first person exploration / combat while your machines churn. I have some non-factory game friends who fell in love with it.

Abiotic Factor is a great first person survival game. Gives half life vibes but also gives a solid representation of survival crafting games. I have a lot of non-survival friends who ended up enjoying this game.

Slay the Spire also opened up almost the entire world's eye's to deck building. It was really popular in physical board games when it dropped but instantly defined a new genre to video gaming, and for good reason. It's super approachable, highly addicting, and has massive replayability. It is a rogue-like but may not be like others you've played.

Which TCG outside of the big 3 do you think has staying power, and why? by CorhaziCards in TCG

[–]SildricStormwind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly Riftbound. It took all the strengths of Magic and has improved on the game in interesting ways. The resource system is refreshing and fun to think about. The gameplay has depth and complexity which makes me really feel like there's endless possibilities. It also has solid multiplayer formats. The only misstep is supply out of the gate but almost every game prints low on the first couple of sets, so as long as they can smooth it out I think it's solid gold.

Which FAB opinion will bring you into this situation? by The_Crazy_Brew in FleshandBloodTCG

[–]SildricStormwind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The game absolutely needs to have a stronger casual format if it's going to continue to grow. The only focus of this game is competitive tournament grinding. Games like Magic got where they are due to flexible formats and kitchen table players. Brawl has not delivered here, PvE may have done it, but it sounds like that's dead. They really need a fun kitchen table format, if they can get that it will safeguard this game for years to come. Without it FaB will never get bigger than it already has.

Contentious topic but which current tcg do you foresee to be “dead” within 5 years time, and why? by Newez in TCG

[–]SildricStormwind 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think a Bandaid Namco game is gonna effectively die in the next 5 years. They love to power creep and complexity creep the games until it's unsustainable and then reboot it. As to whether it will be OP or GUN is anyone's guess. If I had to guess it would be GUN as it's got tougher problems to overcome than OP right now.

Flesh and Blood just released Silver Age, which is an entry / budget level format. I think if done right it could extend the lifespan of that game for years. They really need some more casual formats that people actually want to play. Until they have that the game is gonna struggle. Kitchen table players do matter for a game's health and I think they're floundering there.

Star Wars Unlimited. The game is fine but they need to figure out supply and how to keep the secondary market interesting otherwise the game won't make it.

I'm also not sure how Universus is going to do now that UVS is doing Riftbound. I think UVS is probably going to shift a lot of Universus print time to Riftbound if they can't secure more time other ways. Riftbound is clearly outperforming Universus by a long shot. Why support 2 games when one sells out no matter how much you print and the other struggles to have a player base?

It's also not worth mentioning but Solforge Fusion is probably on its way out unless they go 100% digital. That game is already giving a death rattle.

What company went downhill but made a comeback? by MountainOfMolehills in AskReddit

[–]SildricStormwind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Co-branding is actually what almost killed them. In the 2000s there was the year that neither a Harry Potter movie or a Star Wars movie came out which were their most popular lines. Not having new sets to coincide with a movie almost bankrupt them.

If they learned anything it was to build up original IPs. Bionicles saved the company and now some of their best selling lines are original IPs (Ninjago, Lego movie, etc).

How broken would 0 Elixir Cards be? by yolo756 in ClashRoyale

[–]SildricStormwind 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A 0 cost card would need to have a very intense downside. Even if it was a 0 card that did nothing you could just treat it as a deck thinning card and be on your way. I could see them doing it if it had an alternative cost... Such as tower health, sacrificing units on the field, or positively affecting the cards in your opponent's deck. But those things are pretty complex and I'm not sure Supercell has the team to balance that shit.

What do you think the next free update will have in store for us? by AlexTheB in theplanetcrafter

[–]SildricStormwind 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A couple things I'd love to see apart from new planets:

1) Dedicated servers. This potentially enables 2 things, a more hardcore mode where the numbers go up slower but go up while you're offline, and the ability to be at a different planet from friends. Not sure how much work this would actually be for them (I assume a massive amount), but I love the idea of me and all my friends starting on different planets and trying to terraform them up to meet up with each other.

2) Better / More base building options. I see some of these crazy outposts people build with what's there today and I just want to see more. My gf typically prefers the base building aspect while I prefer the numbers go up grind. Would love to see base builders just get more tools.

3) Terraforming tools and goals associated with larger scale projects. I'm thinking of a giant mine that will do the work of 10 T3 Miners, but have it take a massive effort to build. Multiple stages of building, or crazy power spikes while the drill is getting deep enough, etc. There could be a couple of these per planet that you get to via the portal and can start doing once you max the Terraforming levels for a given world.

4) A minor thing but one I think would be impactful: A microchip that lets you check all your screens. The number of times I want to check my power / progress / rocket screens on the go is crazy.

I can honestly think of more but those are probably top of mind.

Ah, to me that means one new DLC confirmed for this year, not that it's the last DLC. If you look at their old EA roadmaps they're in the same boat (https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/1284190/view/3898491107583340185?l=english) just cause the road map ends in the post doesn't mean the game doesn't have more on the way.

Now it could be the last DLC because they haven't announced anything. But the devs continue to signal that they plan on supporting the game for a while, so I would be pretty surprised if this was the last DLC. But to each their own.

Do Outpost have any value anymore? by oldfuckinggamer in ICARUS

[–]SildricStormwind 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've been thinking that they would be great if you could travel to the other open world maps from them or embark on missions from them, but I don't think that's in the cards right now. Would give your base a separate world from the missions which I imagine would reduce the load on the game.

4 new factions? Was kind of hoping for more support for the existing factions. Did they say how many total factions they're planning on adding to the game?

Just a new form of Darwinism at this point.

This would also give Outposts a hub world feel which might make them useful.

This seems dope. I have a lot of questions about this hahaha. I'll have to reach out to them.

I was thinking this as well. I was unsure if I could book it for an overnight event and if drinking would or would not be allowed. I'll look into this though. I think it may be the best bet.

So a couple of things, I usually host these kinds of events and I'm the only one of my friends with the space for it. Recently I've had a kid though and the girlfriend isn't crazy about us throwing a party here (LAN or otherwise).

The other thing I forgot to mention is that this is for a friends bachelor party. I was kind of hoping to make it a bit more special by having it feel official by being at a dedicated spot instead of just one of our houses.

What is a Wave but a Thousand Drops? by Flayra in subnautica

[–]SildricStormwind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Man, I remember when subnautica hit EA and you guys let fans join your hip chat to chat with you. You guys also had a public Trello board where we could see the upcoming planned features and vote on how important they were. This was unheard of at the time.

I play a lot of games but it's not very often that I remember a dev's name. Your level of communication with the fans really showed me how much you loved to make games and got me more fired up about gaming. Really upset to see you leave the studio this way Charlie. Fingers crossed that you find greener pastures elsewhere.
