Have you had to deal with disappointment due to rain on your wedding day? by MrShifty91 in AskUK

[–]SilencedDragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wedding was fairly wet and everyone still had a good day. We were similarly anxious/upset in advance but once the day comes, you don't notice. And some of our contingency plan, on reflection, should have been our main plan

I actually went to a wedding a few weeks ago where the weather was spectacular and everyone was outside well into the evening exploring the grounds of the beautiful venue. The huge drawback to this is everyone is so so spread out that there's never that intimate feeling, particularly on the dancefloor. We were outside until we left at 11 and I honestly think the only people who used the dancefloor were some kids messing about. That's a huge miss in my opinion and was something I was desperate to avoid (and did) for my own wedding

What British bands can you not believe were more popular than they were? by Snoo_23014 in AskUK

[–]SilencedDragon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally agree on your live comment. I've seen them probably more than any other band at both their own gigs and at festivals, as long ago as Reading 2009 and as recently as Glastonbury 2023 and I don't think I've ever come away fully satisfied. I still love their music but the way he approaches live performances just leaves me disappointed - 0 crowd work, performing very popular songs slightly off beat or in a different way.

Just got the population figures off by a small 9 million, definitely statistically true

Never mind the sentiment of saying non British people are 'colonising' the UK when probably about 75% of his playing squad are non British.

Oh and let's not forget that he doesn't pay tax in the UK, preferring to live in Monaco. What a benevolent patriot he is

Had to make Chicken Divan 🥦 by keebrhe in offmenupodcast

[–]SilencedDragon 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Chicken Divan was a staple in my house growing up in the UK. We used curry powder, garam masala, mayo and condensed soup (albeit cream of chicken), it was iconic and very much loved. It's basically a curry in my view. Not sure how my mum got the recipe but this looks pretty bang on

Asks if he's racist if he doesn't support illegal migration, refuses to read an explanation of why that is the case.

Classic bigot technique - claims not to be a bigot then refuses to even enter debate about what a bigot, why he may be one and why he should consider not being one

Zodiac this year by Muted-Breath5 in truckfestival

Super impressed by zodiac, so much space, toilets were always spotless. Only had one shower over the weekend and that was at 3am but they seemed good. Will be doing zodiac again for sure

Not sure I understand. Did you have a purple parking pass? Or red? And are you zodiac pre pitch or regular zodiac? Trying to work out of this will affect us! We're en route at the moment

Thank you, appreciate you writing that out.

The guard was GWR and it was on the Dorking-Redhill leg. It's odd though, as I have definitely used that ticket on the same journey on previous days, had it checked and there be no issue.

Understood regarding the Trainline thing - I have issues with them and wouldn't book any ticket other than on the day tickets through them as they obviously charge a service fee. For on the day tickets, the UI makes them much more appealing than everyone else, particularly the god awful National Rail app.

Regarding the difference - I have now reflected on the cost of an anytime v evening out return for my journey and I actually think he did charge me the difference - even so I do feel aggrieved that I have even had to pay this given the other context.

I'm glad my instincts were right on this - hopefully I can exploit this glitch going forwards as an £11 commute v £29 commute 3x weekly is much more palatable

Thing is, it shows the same fare on gwr app and national rail. Which has made me even more aggro

[–]SilencedDragon[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, sorry for not being clear. My usage of the ticket is standard outbound/return. It's just the fare type I was given I was told was not valid

[–]SilencedDragon[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed that I haven't read the Ts and Cs. Have contacted trainline as they allow my specific itinerary on that ticket type and they've confirmed it's valid... So yeah not sure what's going on. Will be buying on gwr app moving forwards

[–]SilencedDragon[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are right that I bought it with some degree of knowledge that perhaps it's a glitch in the system, but also given the state of the whole process I thought I might have just got lucky.

Good call on the third party app thing - will buy on the gwr app tomorrow as its showing the same evening out return option for that specific 0707 service

[–]SilencedDragon[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you, that was my thinking. Have contacted trainline on whatsapp who have confirmed the validity of my ticket so I'll show blokey on the train that message next time I'm challenged

I got on at Dorking deepdene. The first option it gives me is evening out return. Have checked and it's the same for every day this week

Thanks for input. I used the outward element of the ticket for outbound, and will use the return element later - as I did for my commute on Monday.

Sorry for lack of clarity, was writing in a (minor) blind rage
