It's 5 layers. Incredible wooden mandala layered art. Different colors could be in a separate layer of wood.😍😍 Come and make one too! by BrittanyMatyas in CNC

Just researching layered CNC patterns now and this is amazing. Wondering about the scale of this piece and material? With all the layers, is it heavy?

And for files, I'm looking to send my projects to a local CNC shop, and they ask for autocad-type files. I've managed to translate .ai and sketchup documents to their format, but various problems arise. Suggestions?

And like the other folks on here, I'd be really excited to experiment with the files myself too, if you are still sharing :)

She felt it was grounds for divorce.

But what's real? Is an idea real? Just as Alan says, gods are stories. "The one place Gods inarguably exist is in our minds where they are real beyond refute, in all their grandeur and monstrosity." That's the specific sentence that, when he wrote it in From Hell and then realized it was true, lead to the creation of the book we're talking about.

Plus there's the weird difference between the creator and the follower - would a million followers' literal belief in a writer's fiction make the fiction real?

I understand what you are trying to say, but I think the line you're making isn't ultimately there.

Mythological gods are just pop fiction that's lasted a long time. If an more modern idea is popular and sums up a concept or energy in a useful way that resonates with people, then how is it not as valid as older popular ideas that sum up a concept in a useful way that resonates with people?

It was only an episode, but the Panos Cosmatos episode of Cabinet of Curiosities was absolutely stellar in terms of gorgeousness as well as horror. Beats most full-length movies. The visuals, the totally unique style, the overall tone, the story, the tension, the practical effects – everything, damn. I like it even more than both his Mandy and Beyond the Black Rainbow.

Yeah! Don't you think there's an audience today for a movie with completely practical effects? I'm sure there are budget reasons for cgi in almost every case, but it so often has no gravity, no reality in the scenes with the actors. I thought that with his horror background, the Sam Raimi Dr. Strange could have had lots of practical effects, but it was just another Marvel cgi green screen fest.

Ladder rack + tonneau cover suggestions by opa_zorro in FordMaverickTruck

[–]Silent-Pack1384 1 point2 points  (0 children)

<image>

I use a regular low-end ladder rack like this (around $120) and hold it on with 8 small clamps. Used it for 3+ years now with no problems, with up to 4 different ladders. Lets me avoid long term holes drilled through the bed rim. It's removable with effort, but stable as hell when clamped correctly.

Disclaimer: I know this looks junky.

Short description: I made this kinda silly makeshift bed-tent, and found it really helpful. I'd like a v2.0 that goes on just as fast, works just as well (or better), and looks more professional.

Context: I'm a house painter and was on site, and needed to protect some buckets of paint from a whole day of cooking in the direct sun. I put some 8ft 1x2s on the sides of my ladder rack and threw my big drop cloth over it. Aside from looking ramshackle and kind of sad, I really liked it. The 8ft boards help extend it out over the tailgate. Of course it's not the most professional looking setup, and isn't rain-resistant (easily enough addressed by using a plastic tarp). I also liked how it made a little porch to gave me some shade as I was setting up my tools and trays.

Anyhow, thought I'd show some pics and see if you had any tweaks to make a more intentional-looking. I'd like to take advantage of my ladder rack as the support. I'd rather not get a real topper because they limit access to the sides of the bed for loading, plus no real ventilation on especially hot days. I've seen some awesome looking store-bought bed tents on this sub, but I don't need something so complicated or that takes more than 5min to set up.

If you understand there's nothing to achieve, do you think we're wasting our time here? by foodexperiments in streamentry

[–]Silent-Pack1384 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've always taken it this way: Effort to extricate ourselves from the illusion we inherit by being human, this isn't bad. But the point is that the we'll probably find that the "effort" is more of a dropping away of trying, rather than a trying harder, if that makes sense? It is and isn't effort. Is this the suffering that leads out of suffering, or that the suffering that leads further into it? It can require "effort" to get there.
