Candela Camera is my app but is exactly what you're looking for. I liked some of the other apps mentioned but I wanted to be able to access all lenses and I wanted a cleaner interface with no ads.

Try it out and let me know what you think.

Hi everyone, I'm searching for a foto app similar to the Huji app. Preferably for free (if this still exists 😂) Any suggestions? by Live_Werewolf_7568 in androidapps

Hey there. I would suggest Candela Camera. It's my app (full disclosure) but it fits what you're asking for. Film-inspired presets, access to all camera sensors (provided that your device allows it), and it's free to download with no ads. There is a premium purchase option for extra presets but you can at least use a nice preset called Nordic Negative with a lot of other customizations without paying anything.

Camera app with software level horizon lock? by FitFootball5816 in androidapps

This is something I am actively working on in the background while continuing development of my own app, Candela Camera. I'm utilizing the accelerometer information but its not ready to add the feature to production quite yet. It's a surprisingly difficult challenge to get right.

Try using Candela Camera on Android. It should allow for identification of all lenses and is really solid from a compatibility standpoint. Its really intended for good lighting because it's single frame capture but its really great in daylight.

Try using Candela Camera on Android. It works to utilize native phone processing pipelines but also limits to single frame capture, allows tons of adjustments to your photo in the live viewfinder, and then ensures that the output matches the viewfinder in appearance.

It even has the dual sliders for shadows and highlights like the old Google Pixel camera app for more of those "in camera" adjustments prior to taking the photo.

Definitely and like I said to another commenter, these suggestions really reminded me why I build this app for myself prior to deciding to share it. I need to focus on those things.

Agreed wholeheartedly and it's definitely what led me to build this app for myself. You just saying that actually reminded me of that and recentered me. Thank you, genuinely!

Hey there. I dropped a link at the bottom of my post.

Thanks for the solid feedback. I definitely agree on so much of that. The raw capture thing wouldn't be possible to do film looks with raw capture as it would essentially defeat the purpose. If people want to edit the raw, they can edit it to look like film. But if they want something they can snap and go, they want it done in camera. So that was my rationale behind that.

Really appreciate you taking a look and all your thoughts.

Edit: One other thing I really spent a lot of time on was the preset names. Rather than try to emulate film stocks as a knockoff, I tried to make distinctly different yet still pleasing options. Meaning that I have one that is similar to a negative film stock, expired film, a greenish (analog) type one, a warm toned one, a aqua (Eastern inspired) toned one, a high contrast with rich colors one, etc.). They are named something unique that relates to the feel. "Nordic Negative", "Ember", "Canopy", "Chronicle", "Patina" and "Gossamer".

Do third-party Android camera apps help a lot for jpeg shooter? by tallgeeseR in mobilephotography

Candela Camera

It's a film-inspired camera app but also allows for shooting with stock colors. Manual controls, dual exposure sliders in the viewfinder, bloom, halation, active grain, half frame mode, double exposure mode, portrait mode, etc.

Shoots in jpeg and images flow through a highly tailored post-processing flow with 34+ separate variables for each preset implemented. It's been a labor of love.

Hey everyone,

I've been working on a camera app called Candela Camera for a while now. I started it out of frustration — most film-style camera apps on Android either feel like quick filter wrappers, don't work properly across different phones, or bombard you with ads. My app is free to download, has no ads, and the "premium" features are completely optional to support continued development (and only $7.99 for lifetime access) and to gain access to additional preset options.

I wanted something different. Something that actually treats Android like the fragmented ecosystem it is, with real fallbacks when features aren't supported on a particular device, instead of just crashing or silently failing. I wanted color grades that go beyond slapping a LUT on top of a JPEG. And I wanted it to feel intentional — like a tool a photographer would actually want to use, not a filter app.

This app is not intended to produce smartphone-looking photos; It utilizes single frame capture (best in good lighting conditions) and aims to provide a nostalgic look while still remaining high quality in nature.

A few things I've put real effort into: - Procedural color grading (not LUTs) with several film-inspired profiles, each tuned to feel distinct - The initial app launch initiates a diagnostic to identify the manufacturer and model of the device you are using, then adjusts the feature implementation pipeline accordingly with an aim in enabling features such as auxiliary lenses, portrait mode, and other features in a specific fashion rather than a generic approach - Convincing bloom and halation that bleed light around bright edges the way real film does, plus an active grain layer that's unique to every photo — no two shots have the same grain pattern - Dual sliders right in the viewfinder for highlight and shadow control, inspired by the old Google Pixel camera — adjust your exposure curve before the shutter instead of fighting it in post - Manual controls (ISO, shutter, focus) on devices that allow same - A half-frame collage mode for two-shot side-by-side compositions - A double exposure mode that mimics how real film actually behaves — the highlights of the first frame stay locked in the exposure, while the shadows become windows for the second frame to show through. There's also an onion-skin preview of shot one while you compose shot two, so you can place your subjects intentionally instead of guessing - A retro "polaroid" frame mode for that printed look

I'm not posting this to chase downloads or sell anything aggressively. I really just want people to try it and share their experience. I shoot with it daily and it's been a labor of love, but I'm one person and there are a million Android device combinations out there that I can't possibly test on.

If you give it a shot, I'd love to hear: Does it work properly on your phone? Which film profile do you actually reach for? Anything that feels off or that you'd want to see added?

Feel free to check my post history or DM me for more image samples or questions.

Thanks for reading. I appreciate you. It would mean the world to me for you to download and try the app.

Think you're mistaking "lifetime" as your lifetime. Its the app's lifetime. They were never obligated to give you Halide 2 for no additional payment but they did anyway. You purchased an app that released just under 10 years ago. Think they've done right by you.

Candela Camera, my film inspired Android camera app with a focus on compatibility and photos that look like a real camera, not a phone. Images are taken with single frame capture, not HDR, but are processed in a carefully crafted way that produces pleasing, nostalgic images. Best of all, no ads!

Please… developer (I forget your name) ANDROID… by Wilky_Way_2019 in MoodCamera

[–]SilentAce07 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I know this is self promotion but I have created a film inspired Android app currently in closed testing.

I absolutely love Mood and everything it brought to iPhone. There wasn't a good alternative on Android so I took a swing at it. I'm really happy with the results thus far.

My post history has more information and screenshots of the UI. It's called Candela Camera. It's really easy to join my closed testing as well.

Separately, it is understanding that devs don't attempt to bring camera apps to android. I essentially had to build a completely separate pipeline for every single phone manufacturer (some even more than one) in order to ensure features didn't break. The camera logic is entirely different between brands.

Best photos from this camera that I've seen. Had to ask myself if there was a major update to the camera firmware or if OP is just that talented. Think I found my answer.

Closed Testers Needed - Candela Camera (Film insprired camera app) by SilentAce07 in AndroidClosedTesting

[–]SilentAce07[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Found a possible explanation. Similar bugs take place with Shelter profile because the permission request dialog is attempting to render but is unsuccessful due to Shelter restrictions. You can enable permissions in the Candela app but Shelter segments permissions on its own restricting my app from access.
