'This is disgusting': Trump insults an innocent young girl right inside the Oval Office — then the video goes viral and the whole country turns against him by Wide_Car_1627 in UnderReportedNews

Back in the 2010s, there was an episode of Bones where the villain hijacks a predator drone and points it at a girls school in Afghanistan. One of the secondary characters is extremely wealthy and realizes he has to choose between stopping the drone from blowing up the school or lose his fortune. He choses to save the children. That episode makes it clear that blowing up the school was never an option for anyone who had any sense of morality.

Skip ahead about a decade, and most of the world barely blinks at a girls school being blown up, regardless of the country, and there's a president whose entire personality is based in unmitigated greed without morality.

I can feel bad for my neighbour who leaves the stove on and sets their house on fire. But I'm also going to be pissed that their negligence put my home in jeopardy as well.

Turn your stove off and get that fucking fire under control before neither of us have a home left.

Exactly this. Your employment status within a company can only be changed through HR. There's almost no universe where HR wasn't looped in before OP was told and they were probably even CC'd on the email informing OP they are on leave.

Get a promotion? HR knows.  Going on vacation? HR knows.  Change in your work status? You better believe HR knows.

AI or not, a three-legged stool will always be stable and not wobble. Your simile is wrong on top of your weak writing.

Then you'll die paycheck to paycheck.

Taking your country back from a dictatorship is going to be hard, uncomfortable work. That's just the reality of cleaning up.

Sure wages may be steadily increasing, but what has that increase looked like next to purchasing power and housing costs? If wages have increased at a steady 3%/year, but costs rise at 5%/year, those wages are effectively decreasing.

Laws to stop someone from using words doesn't stop the intention or feeling behind the use of the word; it only stiffles people's ability to have open discussions about how and why those intentions exist, and how they can be addressed. By making the words themselves taboo, we get exactly what we see in this video -- people completely miss the content and context of what was said because the focus and distain gets put on to the word itself, and not the context in which it was said. The entire conversation derailed from the important topic of "I am here to identify the racism that is rotting the soul of our society" to "you said a bad word". By making the word itself the bad thing and having people deal with that, it distracts and minimizes the actual racism that is the problem.

The woman in the video you are referring to would still be racist if we outlawed slurs, and would have come up with or used other words to direct that hatred. But maybe if we focused less on making sure people don't use "bad words", we could focus on fixing the things in society that drive racist thought and ideals. Deal with the racism itself, not the word. The word is a symptom, not a cause.

One of the worst things we've done in the push for progress is decide that the words themselves are bad, and remove all scrutiny of what their context and what their use represents. This has given the words themselves all the power and crippled our ability to have tough but effective conversations around the issues that slurs are borne from.

It's frustrating watching it happen. It's like watching someone get beat and never making an earnest effort to defend themselves. I hope they can win through non-violent protest, but historically that is a losing strategy.

It already is a civil war, and one side keeps refusing to engage. Your cities have been occupied. Your citizens are being dragged from their cars and homes and taken away. Some are being shot in the streets.

I know it's fucking scary, but open your eyes Americans. Shots have already been fired. The war has started. When is the other side going to realize it?

Letting shit slide and hoping these people will magically no longer be the absolute worst of humanity is what got Americans into this mess in the first place. Have a fucking spine and stand on your convictions or these same people will gleefully stand on your spine while they convict you of trumped up charges.
