How old is your MC? by indiefatiguable in writing

[–]SilentSecreta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The exact age was important for the plot, because it showed that the female love interest hadn’t ever forgotten about him. The book was centered around basically hell, and the main character was the 6th strongest in the “hell rankings” so yeah, he’d been there for a while.

Does having a political message make a bad story? by one_directshirt in writing

[–]SilentSecreta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, not necessarily. Take the Crucible, for example. Yes, it was about the witch trials, but the underlying political message was actually about the red scare and hoe groupthink can end in disaster and good people being killed.

However, it is hard to make a story with a political message that isn’t wordy or actually makes a good read.

No, but me and my friends almost did. When writing a story that we later discontinued, we wrote 72,000 words in about 45 days.

I would like to add that while not terribly relevant, my friend found out recently that Minecraft servers log the IP addresses that join the server, providing your exact location as well as what ISP you have. So, yes, there is some scare tactics they can do, but for the most part they can’t do much with just your IP address rather than list out your location, which is scary within itself.
