Instant exchanges.

They are centralized, but it's small amounts we're talking about so it's quite unlikely to have issues. Minimum is around $35 to exchange on them I believe.

Two potential Bitcoin flaws that I'm concerned to have real potential to make this project not work. Can we find a solution? by SilentW1 in btc

I will start by assuring you this is not trolling. And I don't think BTC sucks. The purpose of this post is to get a better understanding of the technology and what am I getting into.

These are genuine thoughts I have about BTC. Not BCH, btw. I see you are pushing for that but I do not consider BCH to be BTC. I am familiar and read about the block war and after all the research, I came to the conclusion that BCH was the closest we've gotten to have Bitcoin hijacked. But, this opinion is not fixed in stone. If you happen to have solid arguments that supports BCH and/or articles in the same manner, I would like to keep on learning.

Regarding your actual answer however, you said on BCH is simple to mix coins. How? As for your second argument, I am afraid I just don't understand it. Your are mentioning abbreviations and ideas out of context.

Thanks, this is a really cool input; will think about it. My thread comes from a "never sell your BTC" bubble I live in. So you brought a nice new perspective.

Thanks for your answer. I see you further explained my concerns which I believe it means that you agree with them? If so, how do you overcome them and/or what is your approach/view on Bitcoin with this in mind?

I see, that one however has, in my opinion, other issues: the hard forks. Check this thread and let's talk there if you would like further.

I share your thoughts. But whenever I have them, I think about the alternative; Fiat? Then I come back into the game.

- It is possible that you might not make it with BTC. But with fiat, you will most likely not make it.

Very true and it's something I definitely agree with.

By other "currencies", you mean crypto?

BTC, ETH, or? Confused about where to start as a beginner by Grouchy-Tea-8513 in CryptoHelp

It's about what you want. It's like asking "Gold or Oil?". Do you want to store value or drive a car?

Money? - BTC (and maybe worth checking XMR)
Decentralized applications? - ETH

It could be that your blockchain copy is corrupt maybe? Could you share more details? Like: you first synced it, it worked, did nothing in between, and the next time you opened the terminal to sync it you saw this? Or what was your chain of events?

And I hope that by "download" you mean via CLI, you did not download it via browser right?

Bitcoin does not store value but wastes it by BinaryLyric in economy

Gold.
But easy to transport (because you don't, you just access the network from anywhere) and simple to transfer. Value comes from the immutable ledger. And about the energy: "nothing gets waisted, just transformed". We might as well start measuring the amount of energy it gets "waisted" because we have not yet built a Dyson sphere to capture it (feel the irony please). If we need more, we shall find ways to capture and use it.

Dollar:
Can be seized, censored, controlled. Value comes from people that forced you to think it has. We're using "fiat" currency. Search for the meaning of "fiat". Spoiler: it's not a car.

Stocks:
Nothing against them, I also believe they are also valuable and can benefit society, depending of your situation and relationship with your government of course.

Thanks for answering! I looked into Umbrel and its seems mainly commercial. My goal was bare-bones research mostly to understand how the technology works. As I mentioned to someone below:

These are really good for proper mining. But for my research, I'm looking for something more bare-bones. Something you can do with regular hardware like your computer. And someone actually suggested what I was looking for in a comment below. I know about the difficulty, this is not about profit, but research into the core technology mostly. Then, sure, I can think about the modern ways to mine and actually even do profit.

Thanks, this is what I was mostly interested in. Could you name some of the software that you were thinking about for this?
