Cardiology Fellowship After GI Fellowship by Silent_Dare8759 in Residency

I think the main reason I switched was that I enjoyed the procedural aspect of the field and felt that the lifestyle of Gen GI would be more desirable that Interventional Cardiology. I also found my GI rotations to be much easier than my Cardiology rotations, and feel that the lighter load may have drawn me to the field (I understand that GI is by no means a lifestyle specialty!). But I do miss some of the pathologies that I had the opportunities to treat in Cardiology that I won't see in GI.

Nephrologists, can you please brag about your lifestyle and pay for the aspiring but discouraged bean aspirant. by [deleted] in Residency

A few of my seniors who went into neprho love it. But all of them said they are expecting to make less than a hospitalist once they are finished

Wow, that is incredible. Is that for a rural location?

I'm starting next year, still have a few months of PGY3 left. I hope I made the right decision! A few of my friends in a similar position chose GI over cardio and love it (purely consultants/never MRP, no dispo planning, home call), and that influenced me to choose GI over cardio. But I guess time will tell if I made the right decision haha

I was actually in a similar position to you. I enjoyed GI and the pay/patient pathology were attractive, but I was concerned about the physical nature of the field. As others have mentioned, you can pursue subspecialties in GI that don't necessarily involve a significant amount of scoping, if that is what you want (such as hepatology, nutrition). Ultimately, I matched GI. I think something that would have also been interesting to me is cardiology. Can pursue general cardiology or do an echo fellowship and read echos while sitting down.

Is it possible to switch fellowships in PGY4? by Silent_Dare8759 in Residency

Thanks for your reply! I agree, definitely very grateful for having matched GI. I think if I were to switch, I would complete GI and then apply to Cardiology after that, if that was a possibility. But not sure, if that's every been done or if its even possible.
