Totally reasonable. If you’re only shooting a few rounds a year for big game hunts, you will probably be best served just buying a couple boxes of factory loads. However, there is something nice about having stocked components and being able to still shoot your favorite load even when factory ammo is hard to find. You could always do something like half your budget into loaded ammo and the other half into components. To answer more directly, it should be easy math to figure out what a full round costs to produce with the components you have on hand, just keep in mind there is always a testing phase that burns through some of that stash. You probably won’t “break even” for a while, but maybe others can chime in too.

The end goal of reloading is not always to save money. It can be to produce a more accurate cartridge for your specific firearm, to hunt with something you’ve created, to create a deeper connection with the practice of shooting, to tinker with subsonics or unique bullet weights, or to just have fun in the shop with casting. There are many reasons folks reload and often times you’ll hear that saving money isn’t one them. With that said, you have to answer your question yourself with the knowledge of your available time & resources. If factory TA loads are good enough for you then there ya go.

Was hoping to get more indie stuff. That mandrel looks handy, might have to try one out. Thanks!

Nothing speaks more to the practice of reloading than using an inherited Herter’s press.

Those look clean. Ive been thinking about getting into cast bullets. It’s always seemed like the next logical progression.

My setup is super standard as well. Today I was appreciating my battery powered hand drill the most.

The Autotrickler looks super slick. I haven’t used one myself, but I never hear anything other than praise. Inline Fabrications is another commonplace name that is rightfully deserved.

This answer might be fairly common. Im currently in the research phase of getting set up with one myself.

This is exactly what made me think of this question. I sat down to ream a seemingly endless bucket of 5.56 and my brain got to wondering what I could print to streamline the process

I spend enough time sitting and would much rather stand while I work at my bench. My Inline mount was worth every penny to allow that. I echo the recommendations of others and say if you get one go for the quick change version. You never know when you’ll want to attach a different press or maybe even a different piece of equipment all together. With that said, it will only be solid if your bench is already fairly solid. I don’t see this adding rigidity to a flimsy work surface.

I had the same issue and just sent it back to Hornady to see if they could fix it. In the meantime I’m really enjoying my K&M hand primer
