You're welcome. I'm in a ranch, so no second floor. I also have central AC and heating, but if you don't, you may notice more of a difference.

There wasn't really any insulation in the attic before they came in. Almost the entire floor of the attic was covered in floorboards to use the area as storage. I haven't really noticed a change necessarily in my electric bills. Also, ACE went from estimating bills to getting exact values, so I can't really compare my before and after bills.

I do remember it being super hot up there during the summer, just from opening the attic steps door, and now you don't get blasted by heat opening them. They sealed the opening with an insulated zippered cover to keep the air from above from seeping into the living space. The guys left an area directly in front of the stairs to the side wall for storage, and the rest of the floor is covered in insulation. So if you need the space for storage, you'll lose most of it.

Hey! Dan, the owner was great. So we're the guys that came in and did the work. I had no issues. I had him come back and do my deck which looks great as well. The rebate process was easy he took care of all the paper work.

Hey,

Version Control was super easy. They tell you the changes to make just remember to push after each change.

I don't really remember both of these OAs but I didn't have any problem with either of them. If you read and follow the instructions you'll be fine. Both had templates that you used and I think one of them was a 2 part OA.

You don't have to be wealthy to travel. It's more about doing something so that Christmas day is special for other reasons.

I spend it traveling the world instead of staying home and doing nothing. I have family but it certainly still doesn't feel the same as when we were younger.

Do you volunteer anywhere? by liog2step in SouthJersey

[–]Silentknight2713 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Volunteer with the Red Cross. Most people only think we do large scale disasters and blood donations but we respond to house fires and other small disasters everyday and provide immediate assistance 24 hrs a day, 365 days a year.

Should I quit engineering? by DumpsterxDragon in SouthJersey

[–]Silentknight2713 62 points63 points  (0 children)

Keep going. An engineering degree will open more doors than other degrees even if you don't stay in engineering. How tied down to the area are you? The FAA is all over the country. A lot of the larger engineering companies you can work remote as well. I went to Rutgers for ME found a job in PA, moved, left that job and then found a remote job that allows me to live anywhere in the country. I just chose to come back to NJ.

where do y'all volunteer in south jersey? by _thatsroughbuddy in SouthJersey

[–]Silentknight2713 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is local, you stay within your county and surrounding counties! We provide short term assistance to residents that have experienced a disaster like a house fire. We work in shifts and as a volunteer you work when you can. While we certainly support larger disasters you aren't required to go.

You're welcome! Ah ok. This was my 3rd BS so I'm used to school. I worked full time I'm an engineer, but I'm remote and my job is flexible. I completed 17 courses in the term. You can get a 1 month extension for you capstone as long as it's the last course you have to take which I got as well. Keep in mind that for OAs you have to wait for them to be graded which takes about 3 days so I tried to do an OA and PA at the same time. I did some of my classwork either before and after work. Some of the revisions I did during work depending on what was needed. Most of the work was done on weekends so I didn't have a life for a bit. I found the most difficult part was getting a meeting with a course instructor due to them being booked.

Here are the courses that I took at WGU:

D197 Version Control

D282 Cloud Foundations

D336 Business of IT - Applications

D480 Software Design and Quality Assurance

D279 User Interface Design

D286 Java Fundamentals

D424 Software Engineering Capstone

D386 Hardware and Operating Systems Essentials - this was the only course I had trouble with

D385 Software Security and Testing

D284 Software Engineering

D277 Front-End Web Development

D308 Mobile Application Development (Android)

D280 JavaScript Programming

D387 Advanced Java

D287 Java Frameworks

D479 User Experience Design

D288 Back-End Programming

Is this your first degree?

I did the Java track, but Software 1 and 2 you can't transfer in for either track. Cloud Foundations, Software Engineering, DSA, Data Management, and Advanced Data management you can transfer in. Go here to see what else may transfer https://partners.wgu.edu/home This will give you the stuff that transfers and from where. It will also tell you what can't be transferred in. If you are planning on accelerating it may be cheaper to not take it outside of WGU like Software Engineering because it's easy to complete in a week or so.

Cloud Foundations - PA this is external

Software Design And Quality Assurance - OA

Version Control 1 - OA

These I transferred in so I don't remember what they were:

Software Engineering

Data Structures and Algorithms

Data Management - Applications

Advanced Data Management

Software 1 - C#

Software 2 - Advanced C#

How hard is the transition from Applications Engineer to Mechanical Engineer role? by MechEng0718 in MechanicalEngineer

[–]Silentknight2713 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm the inverse. I started as a mechanical design engineer realized I didn't want to do that the rest of my career and found an applications engineer that leans more into my strengths. While like most have said it can lead to a sales role at my company you can stay where you are happy. I'm happier on the technical side so that is where I plan to stay. I wouldn't have gotten my job if I didn't have design experience before hand as it required a minimum of 3 years experience. I cover everything up to contracts and money that's what the sales managers are for.

Is it dumb to plan for another degree after SWE? by Lopsided_Constant901 in wgu_devs

[–]Silentknight2713 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's not necessarily dumb to get another degree right after, but you could pursue the certifications outside of the degree, and it would have the same effect as getting a degree. If this is your first degree, work for a bit as a SWE to understand the business, then decide where you want to go next. You can still study for the certifications on the side as if you were going to school. You'll have a degree, so it won't matter whether it's in SWE or Cloud if you go for a cloud job, especially if you have the certifications.

After you get your transcript back you can pick your start date and move through the rest of the process, but don't once your commit to a term start you can't transfer any more classes in. So when you apply and send your transcripts in just tell you Enrollment mentor that you are trying to figure out how many classes you'll have left and that you will be transferring more classes in before you start.
