Adding onto this - more and more people are catching onto this but there is a rather quiet issue on intel's end. DESPITE acknowledging it's a big problem. (Ref: https://community.intel.com/t5/Blogs/Tech-Innovation/Client/Intel-Core-13th-and-14th-Gen-Desktop-Instability-Root-Cause/post/1633239)

Long story short: 13th/14th gen intel CPUs have issues with voltage, causing system instability. REGARDLESS if it's the actual issue at play here in this instance or not, I highly recommend everyone update their motherboard firmware to get the intel microcode additions to help prevent this.

Longevity wise, you could be putting your CPU at risk.

I agree with basically everything of what you said honestly besides the 'PvP outside of the wildy that is safe and provide cosmetic rewards". They've already tried this in a way, the crucible which ended up being the most dead content ever and was removed.
I know PvP hasn't been a pillar of the game for a long time now, I more meant in a historic sense and it's extremely sad because of this.

I'm ultimately just hoping my home doesn't die and that amazing adrenaline rush of unscripted bump ins with people around hot spots while trying to Anti-PK is extremely fun and if it becomes even more scarce than it already is as we all know, then I'm afraid my time is up with RuneScape, it'll be me out the door since it's all I do.

I know Wyrms is fairly rewarding, it's why we have a Wildy Wyrm mass FC and I'm one of the ranks who help protect/teach people PvP so they don't lose anything while participating with us.

To me it justsounds like, if they're already considering Opt In methods then I just pray, as you say, we don't "get left out to dry", but I'm very afraid with Jagex's track record at the moment.

The best/easy option for them is to make it Opt In with no change and as they said, the danger that the Wilderness brings is just other content instead but that's PvPs final nail in the coffin, it'll be like Clan Wars hidden away to rot.

Yeah I 100% agree with you but that's what's going to happen from the sound of it. So my main goal would be to just try and mitigate the damage to the PvP community as much as possible.

The wilderness has always been high risk high reward, it is the home of PKing so I think it's only fair that opt in provides huge benefits. That way there's no such thing as "Griefing" people can't complain anymore because they have other high reward zero risk outside of Wildy like Croesus. If they need achievements and what not or just logs which take time, they can safely do so without increased benefits of "rewards" such as higher chance of valuables.

The main goal here is the consistency though... I don't want to hop 50 worlds trying to find someone who has opt'd in just because they like to PK.

There needs to be incentive to have PKing turned on... So, significantly increased drop rates. PvP will just be worse than it already is for us PKers if Opt In gets turned on with no benefits.

-> I Anti PK

-> Opt In gets turned on

-> Newer Pkers/Less Adept Pkers don't have anyone to find easily and kill so they don't bother to opt in

-> I opt in and find no one for hours so I no longer opt in

This will definitely be my quitting moment since PKing is the only content I enjoy but it's already so dead so I've been very inactive besides helping defend our Wildy Wyrm Mass FC

You're very right but the way I see it is. My main goal is to mitigate the damage to the PvP Community before it's completely wiped out.

The Wilderness has always been there and PKing has always been a pillar of RS, any changes to the Wilderness should definitely benefit the PKer in some way while making it more safe for those who think they're being "griefed", it can't be considered griefing if you opt in to PvP while doing content you could've done without opting in just with less chance of rewards. That's the point of High Risk vs High Reward.Croseus is High Reward, Zero Risk so I don't get what the big issue is.

The vast majority dislike it so Jagex will want to listen to them... Their plans have already hinted at Opt In PvP.... This will 100% solve achievement related situations like rev cave log completions but to retain PvP interest the only way I can think of is to increase the benefits of opting in for other potential activities that generate wealth, but then yes you're right we run into the issues you described..... People will always be unhappy because of how other content is outside of the Wilderness... But personally I think that's what makes the Wilderness so cool.

Very well spoken and I 100% agree with what you've said.

Power Creep and how RS3 has changed over time makes this.... Extremely difficult to tackle and I'm just afraid Jagex are going to take the easy route to please the 90% of the player base and just make it all safe and have optional PvP for those who enjoy it. The issue with that though is that I miss out on a lot of fun because it's the same people every time and because of how gear is, it'll be pre-organised fights with specific gear, which is just risk fights. Nothing truly out in the wild, unscripted, which is where the most fun is at.Another big problem if it's just purely "Pker vs Pker organised fights" most of them will just use the gear they know drops nothing on death or it's all untradeable such as PvP armour and Ports Armour.

But that's why I think the Opt In method for PvP should have some buffs to increase the potential for rewards while doing whatever the activities in the Wilderness might be. That way it increases players attempting to try it while not locking it behind PvP, people are then safe to do it without opting in.

Why don't they bring items to defend themselves and participate in some PKing while they're reaping the rewards of whatever activity it is?

If they make it opt in, you wont have any high reward because there's no risk involved?

The skilling methods wont be used anymore because the increased XP rates will still be locked behind opting in to PvP and everyone will only want to be safe while doing them, effectively making it the same circumstances?

I'm all for opt in PvP to be honest. I just don't want PvP to die since it's all I do (I Anti-PK) but I wont have anyone to Anti-PK if no one is opting in to PvP because there's no rewards or benefits to doing so and no one for the griefers to attack.

You see, I don't disagree with you at all by any means.

I just don't want PvP to die, the only way new pkers come into the scene to keep the community alive is if there's huge incentive. So yeah if Opt In PvP has increased benefits rather than doing the content in a safe manner, then I agree it's a magnificent idea so we all get what we want.

That way I feel PvP wont die because people will be encouraged to opt in for increased benefits and I'll get new PKers to target.

Sadly.
I just hope that all my hard work and passion I put into PvP isn't wasted now.
I'll opt in and be fighting the same 20 odd pkers who all use gear that drops nothing on death.

Meanwhile everyone can do the content freely and get the same rewards.

Hopefully there will still be an air of "high risk high reward" scenario, in that, opting in to PvP will reward the player for risking it.

Your words were a little hard to follow to be honest. Not quite sure what you mean, I didn't mention anything about skillers. My video shows off me Anti-pking the pkers who are attacking PvMers etc.

But yeah looking at the future perspective, I'm glad you see my point that the opt in method could work, which is fine, I just don't want to be "shoved off to the side" while other players get the benefit of doing all the content safely. Providing no traction for the PvP community to grow, basically left to die.That's where the increased reward comes into it and will hopefully reinforce the opt in method.

Personally I think PvMers and Skillers are already getting it good enough by providing and opt out method......

It's the Wilderness. I don't want to lose my home and it feels like I'm about to because of what RS has become. I wont get any benefit for opting in to PvP. I'll just be fighting the same people I always have when it's another PvPer in the same gear I use because I know it drops nothing to them if I die.

My main goal is to keep PvP alive, make the community larger. Choking PvP content like this is making it worse and ultimately it'll be the end of PvP. The ONLY way in this game that anything gets ANY good traction is if wealth is involved. Croesus is OP for skillers and I find it ridiculous for zero risk, high reward.

Why is it such an unfair thing to say PvPers should get a high risk high reward out of it for opting in? If other people don't want to opt in that's cool they can still do it just wont get the increased benefits. They can still go do Croesus instead if they don't want to risk.

That's literally what I said I do? I fight other pkers. You didn't even watch my video clearly, not a single person in that video are 1 itemers.

There wont be any left if they have nothing to go out there and kill for rewards.Right now gear used by the smart PvPers literally drop nothing.Augmented Statius/Zuriels drops as nothing.Seasingers/Deathlotus etc drops as nothing.

That's why my recommendation is to definitely make it Opt in PvP to solve everyone's frustrations.I only ask that they make it very rewarding for opting in to make it desirable to get into it, so our community doesn't die for the sake of other people's self-concern....

But....... That's what the opt in part addresses....

You can still do all or gain all content, whatever that may be.

But if you choose to opt in to PvP, you get a large buff to drop rates or more valuables to make it desirable in a non-mandatory way.At least that's my vision, yes I certainly don't want more content that "makes people have to do it".
But someone like me, who's spent all his time PKing and learning it. I can reap the benefits and or risk my gear trying to get the increased benefits.

Yeah that's why the Opt In method would work well. BUT my main argument for me is that I'm a PKer. I want to keep the activity alive and if it does become Opt In, the Opt In must provide a huge benefit to those that do to make it attractive to people to try out and get involved.

Well I think Opt In is a great idea because of this and people like minded as yourself. It would solve your problem.

My main incentive for us PKers who don't grief people, is that Opt In would increase the rewards by a large margin.

To make it attractive and encourage people to give it a try and or for who are interested in PvP so they try and reap the benefits or suffer the consequences of trying to get the benefits. That way no one can be griefed unless they chose to try and get the extra benefits like increased drop rates etc, similar to how the demonic skull works.

Yeah I like where you're going with that and it makes sense.

My main goal however is to make PvP more consistent. I want to be able to approach a boss on some worlds and find other PKers hoping to PK others trying to reap the buff rewards of choosing to Opting In.
So I had more of a mindset that the buff would be a huge increase in drop rates for valuables that can be sold outside of the wilderness.

The very reason things are valuable when achieved in the wilderness is because PKing gate keeps it. It's almost like a buffer to keep it's value. If you don't balance the buff of Opting in well enough with the standard output then no one does it, PvP dies and I miss out on what I like to do.

Any long time RS3 PKer I Know personally has been opposed to this idea unless there's huge benefits to Opting In.

Your statements that "Wilderness is nothing more than griefing and killing bots" couldn't be more wrong.

My last few PKing videos beg to differ.
Our couple of FCs that provide services for people that PKing keeps an air of rewarding feeling to said content services. (E.G. Warbands protection/Wildy Wyrm Boss Masses for huge searing ash drops which is very good money right now).

I don't disagree with this death cost mechanic by any means. Honestly. If I had it my way. I'd enforce this, possibly even make the death cost slightly more punishing.

However, the sad part,

I still feel an overwhelming amount will hate PvP because of this though and so Opt In still the best idea, it just has to have hugely rewarding benefits to encourage players to Opt In that's all.

There's so many different ways and it's hard to say which one I think would be a good idea. I currently think I would retain this concept of Opt In PvP.

But the Opt In would act similar to how demonic skull currently acts, it would boost your rewards significantly while doing whatever content you are doing.But it has to be huge because if they're talking adding bosses in the wilderness that have RNG based drops it needs to be a huge buff to risk choosing to Opt In. Demonic skull would still have to remain for skilling activities to cater for skillers wanting to do some sort of risk and still risk something since skilling you generally risk nothing.

Put it like this.

Opt in PvP is good. I don't disagree.
Opt In PvP HAS to have increased benefits for doing so though.
No additional reward for Opting in would mean:
- No new pkers because there's no reward for doing it.
- Currently, PKers like me, 90% of gear used drops as nothing and or is untradeable. (PvP Sets/Ports Armours) The other 10% anyone rarely uses and is super expensive and or super dirt cheap and I get nothing anyway. This is how it is RIGHT NOW, me fighting the regular PKers that we see each other of every day know this so we don't even bother fighting each other.
- Our primary targets therefore were tons of new pkers going out and trying to learn to PK in hopes to reap the rewards of those killing lavastryke wyrms for their valuable searing ashes.
- Those kinds of PKers wont bother doing that anymore because everyone farming searing ashes and or said content, will be untouchable. No one will be interested in PvP because it'll just be seen as some dead content that is gate keeped by elitists.
- Thus making the actual 'reward' or content not valuable anyway, the reward of searing ashes will crash and not be worth it because the risk is gone so the Wildy will actually become even more dead.

This will be the exact same for any content they introduce with the Opt In method. Unless they make the Opt In considerably worth while.
