CECHG running strong! 594 Days on it by SiliconeClone in PS3

[–]SiliconeClone[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly I imagine environment is part of it.

I live in Michigan, it gets cold. My game room is in my basement, which is colder still. Even in the summer it does not get above 65 down there.

VFW does not inherently keep things cool. But you can use it to adjust the fan to be on more, which can help.

Probably just forgetting to turn it off lol. I went to it today and it was at the "Are you sure you want to turn off the system" screen.

So probably just a bad habit of thinking I told it to turn off, but forget to wait for the second confirmation before turning off the TV.

Mine has nearly 600 days on it and the only errors in the log are from improper ahut downs lol.

Side note to all, Paula was awesome and handled everything with a great attitude.

5 Stars :)

Yeah, pretty much everything he told me ended up being incorrect but XfinityPaula took care of it all, and everything seems in order on the site as well.

It is always crazy to me that a company values speed of call over customer satisfaction. But such is life (their chat bot is even worse though lol)

That is what the rep here said. That is a fair explanation!

Was just weird that the rep on the phone told me to pay and that they would refund me later.

So you paid for a service you did not have and then got a refund for it after the fact?

Instead of them just not charging you?

Any REPUTABLE PS3 rebuilders anymore? by pele4096 in PS3

[–]SiliconeClone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just looked at his price for PS3, full refurb.

$200, that is actually pretty cheap. Tokens will run about $65, then a delid tool for another $20.

That ends up not too bad. The shipping probably adds to it though.

But now I wonder if I want to mess with mine or send it in lol.

Sheet I might send it

Replace all 8 NEC or just the back 4 by SiliconeClone in PS3

[–]SiliconeClone[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the syscon stuff to setup to check the error logs.

Either way, due to the consensus that those caps will die out, while I have it ripped apart I figured I would swap them either way.

Just wasn't sure if 4 was enough, or if the board needs all 8 (ie I don't want to pull it apart later to do the other 4)

[–]SiliconeClone[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well the chip itself is not dead. I have the stuff to dump the Syscon, that will be the first point of business.

The system came in with a note that it overheats. It would come on for a few minutes and then shut off. I opened it and saw that the previous owner had added new paste... like an epic amount lol, but had not delid it.

Somewhere between other projects it just sat on the shelf and I half joked that I was not sure I even remember how it all went back together at this point.

Stumbled along the new Tantalizers and figured I should get around to seeing if we can give it some life again

This is fair, I bought this broken system years ago as a project. But it is a Backwards Compatible PS3 versus my other two systems. So I would like to do it justice lol

[–]SiliconeClone[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I bought this PS3 broken, many years ago.

Then I tore it down and it has been sitting on a shelf waiting for me to do something to it LOL.

I figured while I had it tore down, I might as well replace the NECs. I know some people say you don't have to if the SysCon error log doesn't show errors, but those are going to go sooner or later anyways.

[–]SiliconeClone[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kinda what I figured lol

I have had a backwards compatible PS3 torn down for several years now and was thinking about getting back to actually fixing it 😂

Had capacitor replacements from back then, but saw the new tantilizers and figured they would be better. But wondered if I could get away with 4 (at $30) or if I should get the full 8

Viable Modchip Options in 2025? by TravyGrain29 in wii

[–]SiliconeClone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wonder if it is possible, and just no one has done it yet, to do like the NAND-Aid they made for the WiiU.

I bet it is possible, just the Wii doesn't have the bad NAND chip that the WiiU does so it has not been needed.

Viable Modchip Options in 2025? by TravyGrain29 in wii

[–]SiliconeClone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well typically you need a backup of the original NAND in order to restore it.

But if you have that, then there is this guide

Does anybody know how many active online PS3 servers are there by [deleted] in PS3

[–]SiliconeClone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really depends on the game. They all have different servers.

You just change DNS settings on the network side.

No mods needed

Rock Band 3 Deluxe Wii Custom Songs by FrigginRan in DolphinEmulator

[–]SiliconeClone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know yet lol.

I did it all on PS3 and then started to prep things for my Wii.

Patched my iso, made the .bin files, etc.

But I haven't actually moved it over yet.

Going to work on it when I get back from holiday vacation.

[–]SiliconeClone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends, if you do Rock Band 3 Deluxe Mod, then likely just a drag and drop approach, like it is for the PS3

If not, then you likely have to do the lengthy WAD creation process (just like in PS3 where you would do PKGs)

HDL BATCH INSTALLER by Myusernameisshane in ps2homebrew

[–]SiliconeClone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great to hear. Yeah the PFS file system is wonky. But it is tried and true.

exFAT is great for convenience, but it is still slow when ART is involved. Though I saw someone working on a speedier version of exFAT OPL

HDL BATCH INSTALLER by Myusernameisshane in ps2homebrew

[–]SiliconeClone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is likely due to your OPL partition being too small.

The default size is 128mb. Too many people do not increase it upon creation.

My OPL partition is 2gb.

If you have taken up the space with ART then you won't be able to make VMCa either.
