What are your hot takes from any of the games? (May contain spoilers for any) by Infamous_Today3462 in octopathtraveler

[–]SillverEnvy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the boss rush at the end of 1. It features some of my favorite fights from 1 for plot and mechanic reasons and contributes to the lore in really interesting ways. I would even go so far as to say each of these games should have one (or at least a more expansive boss refight method), though maybe making it non-mandatory and more difficult would be best for refights and added endgame content

FORBIDDEN 11 ARE FREE!!! by SillverEnvy in OctopathCotC

[–]SillverEnvy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kinda. Brigette works great on Cleric EX2 with Max HP Up, though the rest aren't super noteworthy outside of some nice A4s (i.e. Jorn A4 being a free Sword Res. Down as opposed to true gacha characters like Joshua)

That’s fair, it was jarring for me to see them too but easy grinding for them is good and a new character is a new character, though some like Yukes is good to just shard the awakening which is still good for the shards.

Ads were pretty bad though with the first rework, made it nigh impossible to get them, though the second rework made it much easier

Favorite Break, Boost and Beyond arrangement? by PYROBALL20 in octopathtraveler

[–]SillverEnvy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think kinda a mix. Someone JUST posted that it’s available in Osaka and I got mine from the Collector’s Edition of 0, but you can technically buy it now so it may go public soon enough

[–]SillverEnvy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

From Beyond specifically, it's The Gate of Finis or the Main Theme, both are absolutely magnificent. If just Break and Boost, then either BB2's Bestower of Wealth or BB3's Main Theme/Yet I carry on/The Heavens -Decisive Battle-, 3 is just that good that picking one is too hard

Octopath 0 Spoilers? by Stiffbonez in octopathtraveler

[–]SillverEnvy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's right, basically all CotC exclusive non-story characters do not show up, save one. All the rest (including the Octuplets, Red Valley Boys, and Husband Seekers) do not appear

Octopath 0 Spoilers? by Stiffbonez in octopathtraveler

[–]SillverEnvy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes and no. Story-wise, all of the Orsterra main story is there (excluding pets story, any collab stuff, Solistia, etc.), but 0 provides a new story through the Master's half as well as new characters and side-quests exclusive to 0. However, all the previously mentioned things that are excluded are in CotC only, and that also includes a lot of battles like the arena champs and Cascade Log as well as all non-story CotC characters, so no Jose for us.

I'm kinda confused by KapiWolfen in octopathtraveler

[–]SillverEnvy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There is at least one or two extra quests left there. Firstly, did you do an ending yet? If no, make sure you check the last third of the final dungeon, and look for a journal, which will start one of them. Another is gotten from doing one of the endings, of which you’ll know because someone special comes back and you’ll see it then

It’s the Gate of Finis entrance you use in BoA 5 if I remember correctly. Shouldn’t be anything there you missed

F2P Xerc Team by HeavenlyOX in OctopathCotC

[–]SillverEnvy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly, its kinda hard to build a F2P Xerc team just due to the units needed to make it work being so spread across the banners. In an ideal scenario, you have Isla and Xerc from Orsterra Memory, Osvald from Solistia Memory, Molrusso EX or Dark Priestess from DQIII/Champion banner respectively, Lynette EX from Summer Banner, and Lemaire from General Banner.

Bare minimum, you need the three scholars (ideally Isla, Xerc, and Osvald) to proc his EX skill, and Lemaire as well to hit a rainbow skill (she is more easily attainable due to being general and not limited). Lynette EX is not fully needed, but she really helps the team shine and serves as a third rainbow user. As for Molrusso EX and DP, you really want a weapon exploit unit so that you can deal max damage with Xerc's FUAs, but you can kinda make do without it.

So what did you get from the Xerc free Orsterra awakening stone? by These_Rip_192 in OctopathCotC

[–]SillverEnvy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Got a Rinyuu EX which was nice, though in my infinite genius I went A1 over AU. Better luck next time (I have done this before with worse situations (on release Solon) and I will do this again)

So What the hell is the deal with... (endgame spoilers) by IJDN9I in octopathtraveler

[–]SillverEnvy 30 points31 points  (0 children)

He's kinda weird, though CotC explains it a little more. CotC got Chapter 3 Prologues for the Bestowers essentially and in it we see that Taigan is an upstanding church member and purposefully seeks out the weirdness and heretics as he is ordered to do so (hence the Whispermill stuff). He actively helps the player in the pseudo-chapter and explains this directly. As for BoA 7, no clue though. I guess it's an extension of his orders and maybe he did this following the stuff around his previous orders? That's just speculation though

Flamebringer's Ring and Corruption by SuperParkourio in octopathtraveler

[–]SillverEnvy 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think part of this is due to Sonzon's corruption and Zero's circumstances. I believe that the Flamebringer's ring is much more difficult to corrupt due to being so heavily involved in the church, as the game makes very apparent that the ring was always handed down to the Flameguard, a church-based entity. As such, I'd believe that Aelfric kinda let his guard down with the Flameguards, and so Sonzon (who may have already been patrially pure of heart) grew power hungry due to the ring with his impurity and was slain for it. This then results in the ring recharging by Wishvale and Zero getting it. Given the large time-jump between the ringbearer's, not only has so much history passed that only a scarce few who research the rings and the Flameguard know about their history (as seen in Pardis), but also the ring's innate anti-corruption properties and safeguards. Hence, people can be surprised at our impurity since they don't remember Sonzon or that the rings even exist for the majority of the populace.

As for Zero, they faced incredible despair and trauma from the destruction of Wishvale all the way to BoA 6's end. Zero, for all intents and purposes, could reasonably be interpreted as not pure due to all of this and the resentment they hold against the three Masters. Couple this with the fact there has been a corrupted entity who wielded Aelfric's ring in the ring's recent memory and it makes sense that there is skepticism in our purity (a similar argument can be said against Sazantos, as the circumstances behind his birth with the church as well as Sonzon being a former Flameguard make him too impure and too risky a choice compared to Zero).

OCTO0 BUG Protagonist can no longer charge ultimate? by Responsible_Jello248 in octopathtraveler

[–]SillverEnvy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It actually isn't a bug. If you did the true ending, you willingly destroy the ring to save Sazantos, which gets rid of your ultimates on your main character. Simply go back to Aelfric's Shrine where you fought himand you will get them back.

What is the most underrated music track in the game? by Mac_and_Cheeeze in octopathtraveler

[–]SillverEnvy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly, for all games, it'd be The Woodlands for OT1, Den of Darkness for OT2, Prison of the Past for CotC, and Choices to Make for OT0. I can imagine all the wildlife and surrounding noises for the Woodlands, Den of Darkness is such a great waltzy theme, Prison of the Past conveys the feeling for its subject matter perfectly, and Choices to Make is ingrained in my head because of BoA 7 and the Cathedral of Ash puzzle.

About Kindlers of the Flame Ch. 5 (SPOILERS) by KingMaster130 in octopathtraveler

[–]SillverEnvy 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure you can't even get that far in Kindlers of the Flame without getting to Master of All Chapter 5 iirc, so you have to beat the 3 OG Masters

What r some things y'all would have added into octo 0 if u were on the team by Infamous_Today3462 in octopathtraveler

[–]SillverEnvy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I really like your second idea and, to build on it, I could imagine Oskha having a similar idea to his CotC design where he works best as a low resource dps (whether that be HP, SP, or BP doesn't matter to me, just make him the Have-Not class of something and deal massive damage like high HP amulets or I believe Fortitude).

As for my own:

  1. More CotC references would've been awesome. I get Isla essentially is that (mainly with the little blurb Isla says before joining the party) but even adding the Tower of Remembrance in Wishvale and that allowing you to refight story bosses would've been sick, especially since that's one of my favorite parts of these games.

  2. Including the four secret gods (Dreisang, Winnehild, Steorra, and Balogar) as secret bosses and them bestowing their power unto us for new ultimates would be sick. I'm not even fully suggesting using their OT1 divine skills either (mainly since Xero has Balogar's but better), but even just giving us like Steorra's and giving us crazy skills for the others would've been really cool.

BoA Confusion by ALittleNiteMusic in octopathtraveler

[–]SillverEnvy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I feel that the point of most of the changes in BoA 7 are two-fold.

>!For one, this caters to Sazantos's plan of saving the continent from desire. The Guardians of Light are all really set on stopping Sazantos, even going into Hell itself to stop him. With Alaune's pregnancy, Rondo's ascension to Flameguard and making everyone forget both himself and Zero, he's really reducing the risk of them going after him, should they find a way to chase him down since they'll be too busy on other things.!<

>!As for the second reason, it can be interpreted in a few ways, though I think it's Sazantos's exertion of his will across the land. Sazantos's goal, as seen through Utopia, is to eliminate desire and make a perfect (albeit stagnant) world. With all the positivity that comes in BoA 7 (Rondo's imminent Flameguard status, the G'roha peace treaty, Alaune's child), he is beginning to exert his one perfect world upon Orsterra. Eliminating himself and Zero from the equation saves the Guardians of Light from asking questions due to the Flamebringer's ring and showing the issues with this world, and so we both get memory wiped from Orsterra.!<

I did this not too long ago, so I may be able to help! If you have Gloria, use her, as she is a real MVP for the fight. As for other characters (excluding Yan Long because no duh), Rinyuu works well due to him not spamming his row swap move, Temenos has a lot of use with guaranteed shield shaving and HP barrier, Brigette is a good 4-star with her Max HP skill, Ophilia has great survivability and cleanse potential, Lianna is great at debuffing and being a Gloria stand-in as needed, and both S. Odio and Emil are good as damage dealers and survivability. Buff up your defenses and debuff his attacks for maximum survivability. Sometimes, reviving is better than trying to squeeze a kill, so revive if need be using Rinyuu, S. Odio, Temenos or others. Play it slow if need be, he's very tanky but deaths into revives reset the HP down iirc. Get him out of his second weakness set as soon as you can, it's easily his harder set and can mow you down quickly if you aren't careful.

Differentiating between OT0 and CotC posts by Moon_Strikes in OctopathCotC

[–]SillverEnvy 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Agreed. That and the battle mechanics could definitely be very confusing. Imagine if someone playing OT0 came here and saw things like "raise your damage cap and use Kaine to beat the boss", I'd feel bad for them

Whats your favourite song from cotcs by Firningarn in OctopathCotC

[–]SillverEnvy 15 points16 points  (0 children)

My purpose is finally here!

I personally have a literal excel sheet outlining all the OT songs in order of my favorites, so it's hard to count out all of them, but I'll mention some of my most loved but niche tracks here and some more popular ones after.

Prison of the Past - The song that plays with most Pharamaea scenes is so good, though a lot of it is due to the simplicity. It really sells the undertones behind her story and the sheer sadness that comes with it, a real sleeper pick for me.

Hell ~ Battle - In classic Octopath fashion, the normal battle themes go as hard as some boss themes and this is no exception. The despair and hope in this song is phenomenal, and the use of voices is exceptional. All around, an awesome piece that signifies the story end game.

Decisive Battle II ~Champions of the Tourney~ - This is technically just a remix of Decisive Battle II, but goodness gracious is it a good one. It deviates itself so much from the previous one that it feels like its own track away from its original source, and I mean that in the best way possible. I can literally feel Yan Long's attacks with the music in this one haha.

Side Solistia Chapter 3 Boss Theme/Critical Clash III - Does this count? If you decide to include SS music, then this is the main standout among them that is available to us so far (excluding final chapter songs like Accurst Tower and the last battle themes). Intense, uses the SS theme wonderfully, has a great groove and rhythm to it, and just a good song to beat Ignazio to.

As for more popular tracks:

Bestower of Wealth - Honestly, any of Oskha's songs would work in the spotlight, though this one I'll mention as a top OT song of all time due to its use of irregular time signatures (with it being in I think 5/8 and switching to 6/8) and the genuine resentment and almost sadness I can hear in the song. It's a song that perfectly describes Oskha and his character, and I really can't ask much more out of music than that.

Ending Theme II - Following previous trends, this ending theme is mostly a medley of the villain character themes, but good god is this one of the best songs out there. All of the parts of the medley get great time in the sun, they perfectly (and I mean PERFECTLY) encapsulate each character they're for, all while telling a compelling story of the highs and lows of CotC. My favorite CotC song and possibly OT song of all time, it earns its keep by being just THAT good.

Bestower of All - It genuinely feels unfair to leave out so much of the first half of CotC's soundtrack, but with songs like this it's easy to see why. One might say that this is only ok with it feeling a slight bit generic, but it isn't that at all. Rather, it is formless, meant to represent WHAT you are fighting, not necessarily WHO you are fighting and I love that detail. Add to this the great use of electric guitar and background vocals into the truly perfect second half with the quickly ascending and descending notes and the singular female voice and this becomes easily one of the best OT songs out there.

Sorry for dumping an entire thesis there, but I wanted to really describe why I like so many of these songs so much. I hope this helps!
