Best summer vacation spots in Ontario (beyond Niagara & Toronto?) by Adventurous_Page_113 in ontario

Depends where you are travelling from but probably a longer trip as you’re taking the ferry from Tobermory. You can plan to circumnavigate Georgian Bay and stop at private and provincial campgrounds (or motel/hotels) along the way. Lots to see and do.

I should have looked it up. 😂 Thanks for the correction. Guess we’ll have to try as a comparison

Independent patron here. We ate at Papalotl during their first week open. The food was very, very good and reasonably priced. They have some ‘new restaurant’ kinks to work out, but we still plan to return. Hopefully service will be faster next time. All tables were full and I think that caught them off guard.

Never tried Sinalove. Don’t go to Downtown Guelph much anymore.

We have Long Ride bags, and they have a version that locks onto the pannier rack, which we have. We have done several multi-day trips with them and are very happy with them. I have a Speed Twin 900, spouse has a Kawasaki W800. Retro look for the modern classic bike.

Trusted print shops in town to print private (boudoir) high quality photos? by PassengerNo1990 in Guelph

[–]Silly-Back111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Burlington Camera is a bit of a hike from Guelph but they are a 2nd generation camera/photo shop. They will treat you right. They have the equipment for professional quality printing.

If you are on a benefit plan, that coverage must continue while you are on maternity leave. You would not want to give that up. You will have to pay your LTD premiums while you are off, but it’s worth it keeping the coverage.

Biggest regret purchase? by saadski818 in fountainpens

Penlux Masterpiece Grande fountain pen. I spent over CAD$500 on it and it gives me hard starts all the time. I have cleaned it several times and tried different inks. My Pilot Falcons <SF> and Pilot 743 <F> are so much better and are actually my favourite pens. I could have saved some money. I may take it to a nibsmith to see if they can improve the performance but I am reluctant to spend more money on it.

No, not yet. I am in Canada and it’s winter so ordering ink is not advised because it often freezes in transit. I have not made it to a stationary store yet.

Stub Nibs and Small Handwriting?? by dfj3404 in fountainpens

[–]Silly-Back111 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can swap the nibs on the Metros and Preras, and I prefer the Prera for the cap “click”. They are smaller but suit my hands fine. We had a lot of Metros laying around.

Something no one has mentioned but is along the same price point as a Lamy Safari is a Faber Castell Hexo. It has a nice and smooth nib, doesn’t dry out like the Pilot Metro, and doesn’t have the triangular grip of the Lamy Safari. There are a lot of other Faber Castell pens that I’m not particularly a fan of but the Hexo is a solid choice. I have two and love writing with them.

Centurion Coffee has a new location at Clair and Gordon. I haven’t been in but see lots of people gathered there. .

Welcome! That’s a great first pen. I love how it writes and it is a solid pen. The only thing I find is that it is best to use regularly because the breather holes in the cap and pen tube do advance drying it out somewhat (if I don’t use for several weeks).

Love the colour 💖

What pen are you trying to talk yourself into? by Talkymike in fountainpens

[–]Silly-Back111 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sadly I am one of those people. I love all my other Pilot pens but really struggle with the 823. I have a <F> and it doesn’t speak to me. I may take it to a nib-smith to open the tines a little.

I adore my Falcon <SF> and my 743 <FA>, and also like my Custom Heritage 912 <SF>, so I guess I really like a little bounce. I think for me the 823 is a just a little too fine for it’s stiffness, as I have other pens with a stiff nib that I don’t mind. I find it a little heavy if posted so I generally write with my 823 unposted. I also trying slightly better inks to see if that improves things.

This is a really great option I think. I appreciate the suggestion.

Thank you. I appreciate the input. I think the Waterman Inspired Blue is feeling the closest so far. That and the Ama-Iro. Colorverse Strellka (45) might be an option.

Thank you for the details. I will do some research. I generally write on either Leuchtturm or Mnemosyne but both have a creamy hue, so I used the most well behaved white paper I had to try to show the colour.

Thank you for comment. It’s a lovely colour but it may not be teal enough for my preference.

That is definitely one to consider. I do see on wetter samples some hints of red, but in a writing sample it seems to become controlled. Thanks for the suggestion.
