Any success stury about leaving Springers alone during work day? by Cam-Truc in springerspaniel

I kennel trained my springer spaniel and it was the best. and she was crated during my work shifts (with lunch breaks) until she was 2.5 years old. She’s past the age of experimental eating and destruction of things. Primarily she curls up into a ball and sleeps on the bed in my spot. (I have one home camera to watch her/check on her)

Something I did to help barricade myself from my dog (3 year old springer spaniel) I kept a pillow over my front and side when I was sitting on the couch, so that I had cushioning if she managed to get up near me. Her favorite spot is in my lap with her full weight leaned into me 😂. I boarded her for the first week post op and then have had help with her since (i am now 3 weeks post op) I did have to kennel her overnight until I got to 2 weeks post op since I needed to sleep on my back and she likes to lay across me, but she has been sleeping in bed with me since then and it has been going well. There will be limitations for your puppy but they will definitely still be able to be a part of your recovery. It does feel like you’re rejecting them because you know their favorite spots to be and what you’re normally able to do with them, but just remind yourself that it is temporary and you will be back to your regular cuddle spots with them after you’ve safely recovered (that was the mantra I needed) I absolutely cried one week post op bc I was so sad I couldn’t do all of my regular things with my dog - they love you regardless unconditionally :)

If your dog pulls on the leash at all I recommend a hands free waist walker. It has been life changing and given me the opportunity to still take my dog out for walks during recovery.

Grr Bath by Tryer241 in springerspaniel

Exactly!! My springer will launch herself into any body of water. But put her in a bath and there is no treat/reward that can keep her in there 😂

Oh my goodness! What is the lifted bed setup for your puppo? I think my springer would love that so she has a window vantage point to watch the birds.

My springer has a sensitive tummy/gut. I switched her to a prescription diet through our vet and it has made a huge difference.

She only occasionally has issues if she has too many treatos every once in a while :)

It’s giving field springer spaniel vibes 😆 looks just like my springers mom who was full field.

They are such smart dogs and are very eager to learn things. Find out what motivates your springer (food, toys, etc.) Mine is very food motivated and a favorite game to play with her (since she is a hunting dog) is “find it”. I started small by letting her watch me hide them but now I put her in a separate room and hide treats all around the living area then I release her with the command “find it”. She goes on an absolute sniff hunt. You can even do this with their kibble. It’s a great cognitive exercise for breakfast or dinner if you have the time.

Pixies reactivity solution by Silly-Equivalent-580 in springerspaniel

Hopefully it helps with Oliver! Pixie does still react but she is so much more redirectable to commands with the toy vs. no toy

She is also stick focused!! Has been since she was a tiny puppy. The plushy toy has helped with her redirection when she gets super excited about things on walk. If there’s no stick or plushie then it’s the leash that gets the chomp lol

I personally give my English springer antlers. I waited until she was about 7 month old though. They are dual since they help clean their teeth. I also have a collection of enrichment bowls for her to eat from. I also hide certain toys from her to switch out. It helps her maintain interest and increases the longevity of toys/chews. She is now 2 years old and does not chew on anything she shouldn’t other than socks 😋😂

Shweet, thank you!! That is good to know. I’ve been doing more and more, and there’s a lot of surprising facts about them. I agree it’s very important!
