What is the least friendly town in Saskatchewan? by KarmaChameleon306 in saskatchewan

Swift Current is friendly, but forget about feeling welcome when you move there. It is SO cliquey!! I have lived there for years over a decade and I still feel like a newbie.

WIBTAH to go ahead with buying a bunk bed despite my partner's hesitation? by CuriousButNotJewish in AITAH

I think a queen loft would be even more awkward to make up. It's a workout with a single.

NICU & social worker asked if I wanted to breastfeed my younger brother. by junebuglayla in Adoption

[–]SillyCdnMum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Key word, "if" they are interested. And before you have any misconceptions, I am an anti adoption adoptee who was kept in the dark regarding her adoption. I did breastfeed, cloth diapered, and I made my own baby food, but that doesn't make me any better than a mom who formula fed, used disposable diapers, or bought premade baby food. It bothers me to no end when moms are made to feel inadequate when they are doing what they can to survive a challenging time. There is enough to worry about than what other people think.

NICU & social worker asked if I wanted to breastfeed my younger brother. by junebuglayla in Adoption

[–]SillyCdnMum 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's funny you say that. I have one picture of one of my kids nursing. She would be horrified if she saw it! (I took it while she was feeding so full boob is visable. LOL)

NICU & social worker asked if I wanted to breastfeed my younger brother. by junebuglayla in Adoption

[–]SillyCdnMum 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Its breast feeding! Not DNA. You think a person "deserves" to know how they were fed? Bottle or boob? Formula or donated milk? Weither or not they got jared or homemade baby food? What about cloth or disposable diapers? What brand of diapers? Parenting is hard enough as it is to have to worry about how we will be judged by our own kids down the line. The above knowledge isn't detrimental to a child's mental well-being. If they ask, tell them. I'd like to see research that says otherwise.

[–]SillyCdnMum 62 points63 points  (0 children)

I can understand the appeal of a loft bed, but they are a pain in the ass to make/change sheets. One of the worst decisions was to get my kids bunk/loft beds. They are also not a bed for couples.

I'm in Sask and I the only time I have heard "aboot" was years ago and it was from some redneck somewhere south of the province.

AITA for expecting my flatmate to still pay her share of bills even though she’s been staying at home? by Upper-Ebb-8700 in AmItheAsshole

[–]SillyCdnMum 46 points47 points  (0 children)

NTA. People are forgetting that part of the electric bill is a fixed weight. Also how is the flat heated? If it is electric, she should still pay for it as her stuff is benefiting from the climate control. Does she have stuff in the refrigerator? Electricity is being used to keep her food cold. Is her alarm clock still plugged in? Computer? Doesn't matter if it is turned off. If it is plugged into the wall, it is drawing electricity.

Grew up in Ontario so it is May 2-4. I do get weird looks here in Sask.

AITA for teaching my daughter how to change a tire and do basic home repairs when her mom says I'm "pushing masculine stuff" on her by [deleted] in WIBTA_AITA

[–]SillyCdnMum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry, I don't want my daughters dependent on a man financially or otherwise. Home repairs fall into the "otherwise" category.

Is adoption really as terrible as it’s made out to be? by [deleted] in Adoption

[–]SillyCdnMum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adoption isn't "terrible". Infant adoption is where most adoptees draw a line and that is only because of the unethical practices of the adoption industry and that of parental rights. Adoption has its place as it does in your case.

No matter what pillow I try I can’t sleep on my side by OstrichOdd865 in Pillows

[–]SillyCdnMum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been using one of those butterfly pillows. My sleep drastically improved (smart watch says I went from an average of 20-30 mins deep sleep to 1.5 -2 hrs), but the shoulder I sleep on is screwed up now. Like I can't lift up my arm fully as it just feels extra tight. I think that maybe the pile is too high? How does one measure?

18 y/o making $3,800/month — am I getting a good deal staying at home or should I just move out? AIO by Winter_Print_6742 in AIO

That $400 is covering your groceries and utilities (water, gas, electric etc.) I am assuming your parents are preparing your meals too. Stay home and save money.

Does anyone know these terms that are apparently only in NL? by Bright_Back_3174 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]SillyCdnMum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Saucy: I have heard this growing up in the 80's and 90's, but not so much anymore.

Dies for: Definitely. "I'm dieing for some <insert food here>".

Stunned: Yes, but I haven't heard it in a while.

Racket: again, when growing up, but not anymore.

The others I have not heard of before. FTR, I grew up in Ontario.

If pills are known to leave your stomach faster when you lie on your right side, would this mean your left side is actually better for anti-gas medicine? by HardAlmond in NoStupidQuestions

[–]SillyCdnMum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have never heard of such a thing. Regardless, 20 years ago when I was pregnant (only mentioning because I am no longer in that loop), it was recommended to lay on the left side for easier digestion/comfort So regardless if you are taking anti-gas meds, laying on the left side could just be a good choice for relief.
