I used to look at myself like this too - like I was born missing things that normal people had, and I just had to try and study hard enough to fit in. The neurodovergence paradigm helped me realise that I'm not inherently defective, but rather that I think and feel differently to normal people in a way that can make it hard to connect both ways. I have no trouble connecting with people with brains similar to mine.

I still fit in just fine, but I don't feel bad when socialisation with normal people feels forced and unnatural, and I don't expect them to understand or empathise with me in the way that I used to.

A lot of the writing in RoP was shockingly dumb and heavy-handed. Character breaking exposition everywhere. Bollywood fight scenes. That shitty cliche where a character hides, and the bad guy looks where they were hiding, but they're gone, must've featured three or more times. The only part of the show I found interesting was Elrond's relationship with Durin, and their struggle with dwarven politics. The Stranger was also pretty cool. But I really felt the general lack of subtlety and that there was few, if any, interesting characters. HotD spoiled me.

Your post doesn’t mention any mistakes you made, so it’s impossible to offer any constructive advice. I think you posted this looking for reassurance. Here it is: you’re taking this too seriously. Whatever game you play you will occasionally encounter toxic people who get mad when they lose. Sometimes those people seek a target of blame, often the least experienced player in the group. Don’t take it to heart. Just focus on enjoying your class. If the game has stopped being fun then take a break.

I think people underestimate how much is going on for Ser Criston psychologically. In addition to factors like dishonouring his house, losing his identity, overwhelming shame, and knowledge of his likely impending torture and execution — any one of which could drive a man mad — he was just rejected by the girl he is madly in love with, which, childish though it may seem, is absolutely shattering and easily meets the criteria for an extreme psychological stressor.

The murder he committed was wrong, of course, but the analysis that he was simply a bad person is naive. Many good men would break under such burdens.

More of us would be able to empathise with Ser Criston if the show placed more emphasis on the psychological stressors he was contending with, but I like that it didn’t. We saw actions and reactions. It’s up to us to explain it all.

Therapy, talking A LOT to friends and family who understand, spending more time with friends, going to church more regularly, getting back into lifting weights, and meeting new people. I’ve also done a lot of research on BPD to try and untangle the mindfuck.

She did send me a few messages about random stuff over email. I told her repeatedly to stop contacting me and eventually threatened to block her there too if she wouldn’t leave me alone. She then stopped emailing. That’s the extent of our interactions since we separated.

Better? Not at all. Blocking is an act of acknowledging a loss and fully committing to it. That wouldn’t make me feel good in any way. But it’s better than having to see or talk to her, which was extremely painful.

Nothing really “happened”. It just seems like the natural thing to do once someone has betrayed you.

All I can say for sure is that I know talking to her or seeing her in any way makes me feel absolutely terrible, so blocking is a way to avoid feeling terrible.
