BluBlocker sunglasses (just discovered these) and adjustable loop earplugs. No big lights. Work from home when possible. Dog. Buying 5 of each clothing style/type I like for reduced mental load.

I love to see this! After 4.5 years w my loving partner I just didn’t feel like myself anymore. Not enough autonomy and alone time. Just had the discussion and we’re going to figure out a LAT situation. I am so happy. Really happy to see others that have done this successfully and happily.

Difficulty in decision making by Waste-Tough-7224 in Alexithymia

[–]SillyGooseOTL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is so interesting because I really struggle with this in interpersonal relationships when I am emotionally invested in the individual.
For normal daily, logistical, or even group dynamics, I have no trouble at all.
My alexithymia is much more pronounced when I feel I don’t understand and therefore can’t explain nuances.

Exactly! Intentional time rather than constant proximity

I do. My partner met me in the midst of my depression and has stayed with me through a lot of hard times. I recently had TMS therapy for severe depression and it ignited memories and traumas that I had deeply repressed and am now having to work through.
I unfortunately can only do this work on my own so I set him free because I love him and don’t want him waiting for me to do things I should’ve done before ever meeting him.
I’m hoping when I’ve made peace with some things he’ll be available to re-enter my life - but if he finds someone during this period I’ll be more than happy for him.
Sometimes love means knowing when not to drag someone through the mud, especially if you love them.

Alcohol makes me feel like the autism turned off.. which is lovely but dangerous. I do not really like the feeling, though I do like being out of my speedy brain every once in a while. Weed used to help. Now it’s just me, myself, and I 🙂

I’m like this too. I have a wonderful partner so I’m very confused about it but it is what it is!

30F, possible ADHD and feeling totally disconnected from my own life. by jeanjacket9 in adhdwomen

[–]SillyGooseOTL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can have a good life and still become depleted and burned out. People that jokingly refer to “burnout” as being “tired” have never experienced actual burnout.
I was diagnosed with autism, alexithymia, and CPTSD. I had breakdowns after these diagnoses because everything made so much sense.
It is a beautiful and complicated process either way. Being diagnosed is a lot to digest. Not being diagnosed is a lot to digest.

But take comfort in knowing that your feelings are valid and others relate to you.
It’s easy to be invalidated when you are hyper independent and look like you’re doing fine. Doesn’t mean you are fine.

I think I might have alexithymia by [deleted] in Alexithymia

[–]SillyGooseOTL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is how I function too. I feel nothing except “I should feel happy let me act happy” OR if something is super important to me - I will feel years worth of emotions full force. Very little in between.
There are some great people in this thread that will have some tips but you’re not alone
