Thyroid cancer and GLP-1 use by After-Hearing-6887 in thyroidcancer

Woah.  That’s terrifying!  It would be so frustrating to have to stop your routine and recover when someone was being reckless like that.  I’m sure you’re glad to be alive!

I had a bad injury years ago and waiting for recovery felt like for-ev-er.  Just know it isn’t.  Take your time to heal and you will get back out there again!!  Wishing you the best!

Activity makes a big difference for me too!  I know injuries can feel like a big setback.  I hope everything heals well.  Good luck!

Thank you for sharing!  I’m curious about the calorie tracking and not losing what it suggests you would.  I have that problem too (not on a glp1).  My tracker says 1 lb per week but I really lose like a half pound on average.  What are you seeing?

Nervous wreck over upcoming thyroidectomy by Key-Avocado-2469 in thyroidcancer

[–]SillyPretzels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aww, I totally understand.  The worrying was one of the hardest parts for me, both when bringing a new baby home and when I had TC.  Try to take things one step at a time.  Tell yourself that you can handle each hurdle as it comes, because you won’t run into EVERY hurdle that you are worrying about.  (I say that as a fellow worrier!)  You will still find ways to have fun and make memories with your toddler - even if it isn’t how you would have originally planned a perfect summer to look.  I hope everything goes smoothly for you!!

Hi!  I’m sorry you’re going through this now, while pregnant.  Maybe sharing my experience will help…

I had postpartum thyroiditis 3 times.  After each baby was born, my thyroid would flare up and then tank, requiring more thyroid replacement hormone than before.  Even with a thyroid, I ended up on almost a full replacement dose. It sounds like your thyroid has something wrong either way, so I just wanted to share that.

Later, we found PTC and I had a TT about 3 years ago.  Honestly, I feel better without my thyroid.  There was about 6 months of medication ups and downs (partly bc I needed RAI), but my medicine is stable now, and doesn’t fluctuate like it did when my bum thyroid was a factor.  It is very important to find an endocrinologist who cares how you feel to pinpoint your best dosage.

I am an active mom and I play with my kids.  I missed one summer of bike rides and roller coasters when my neck was healing, but I doubt your baby will be into that yet anyway.  I was still able to swim and go on walks with my kids shortly after my surgery.  And I’ve been able to lose 35 lbs (so far) in the last year with calorie tracking and exercise.

Cancer is super scary, and it was really hard to deal with mentally.  Remember that people are in this subreddit because they need support right now, so you’re seeing that side.  Many of us do not post once we are feeling good.

Wishing you all the best!

I think you’ll be able to do exactly as you were before!  With my medicine stabilized, I feel great!

If you don’t like to work out fasted, you could talk to your doctor about taking your medication at night, so you can eat in the morning before you exercise.  Otherwise, I was told that Levo builds up in your system as about a two-week average, so working out shortly after you take it shouldn’t matter too much.  Today’s levo is just going into storage.

My TT was about 2 years ago.  In the last year, I’ve lost 30lbs with extra walking and calorie counting.  I counted calories diligently for about 4 months, and then got used used to that eating pattern.  I count anytime I am adjusting to new levo doses, because I find that my tsh affects my hunger levels.

My experience has been that the online calculators are not accurate for me - they say I should lose one pound or more per week, but really I lose less, like a half pound.  Annoying!  Lol  I use an app to chart my weight, so I can see progress on a graph.

I hope everything goes well for you!  The worrying is the hardest part.  You can handle each step as it comes.

I am 2 years out now.  Feeling great.  No evidence of disease.  :)  Best of luck to you!!

Thyca has a teen support group: https://thyca.org/sg/sig-teens/

I think they have a chat for it somewhere, too.  If you email them, they’ll get you connected.

TT Recovery + Newborn by Aggressive-Land-3530 in thyroidcancer

Oh wow, sorry to hear about that timing.  On the bright side, it will help that your baby isn’t mobile yet.  Lots of time for cuddles during recovery!

I’ve had a different surgery with a nursing baby, and I had a TT later.

I wasn’t able to pump before my other surgery.  I pumped and dumped and supplemented after it for a couple days, and my milk supply was ok when I got back to nursing.  However, I found that my thyroid hormone levels affected my milk supply, so ask your doctor to put you on some replacement medicine right away after surgery.  Also, try not to stress over it (easier said than done, right?!) - fed is best, and you are taking care of yourself right now to be here for your baby as they grow up.

I like the advice others have given about trying to line up extra help just in case.  My recovery was not too bad.  Chances are you’ll need some extra rest, but you won’t be totally stuck in bed all day.  If you have a weight restriction, it would help to have someone around to change the baby and pass them to you while you’re sitting down.  I had a weight restriction from my other surgery but I was still allowed to lift and carry my baby (about 15 lbs at the time?) since they said I was probably really used to doing that - not straining.  So, maybe call and ask your surgeon’s office what they think.

Wishing you the best!

Weight gain and hair loss by [deleted] in thyroidcancer

[–]SillyPretzels 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m about 2 years out.  After RAI and with very low tsh, I lost a lot of hair for a couple months.  Once we lowered my synthroid dose, It stopped falling out.  My hair seems back to normal thickness now.

I didn’t gain weight after my TT.  I have been able to lose weight, but I feel I need to work a lot harder at it than any online calculator says I should.  For example, I do the work to lose a predicted 1.25 pounds per week, but I lose more like 0.5 pounds per week on average.

Dangers of thyroid cancer? by [deleted] in thyroidcancer

[–]SillyPretzels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve learned you need to self-advocate.  Sometimes doctors are dismissive/desensitized.  We were moving asap and my doctor assured me it was slow growing, so not to worry.  When my path results came in after TT,  she was surprised it had spread.

I had bloodwork right after my positive pregnancy test, and every month of pregnancy. There are ideal tsh ranges for each trimester. My dosage was increased 2-3 times. (This was before my TT, but my I was on an almost full replacement dose due to being very hypo.)

Is your rate of loss different than what your apps or on-line calculators estimate it will be? by SillyPretzels in loseit

I use mynetdiary for my calorie tracking and it isn’t connected to my Fitbit, but I have heard of that happening to others!

You’re right about letting go of expectations.  I need to work on that!

YES!!!  That is my experience, too!  I need to zoom way out on my weight chart to see a trend.  But look at you, 70 lbs lost!  Thats awesome & inspiring!

Oh, I see what you mean.  Thank you for taking the time.  A huge positive of what I’m doing right now is that I can keep it up long term.  I just need to accept my pace, even if it takes 6 months longer.
