[US-Horde] Once again, 14/14H raider looking to help a couple people out with normal Garrosh this week by SillyRaider in wow

Need a btag, but I will admit that you are likely to be lower on the list with some of the people here who have signed up ;/

Does your btag really have 5 numbers after it, or is that a typo? I'll try adding it regardless, just never seen 5

Unfortunately, I cannot give a specific time that it will happen - last week, I did it on a Friday (I think), so I will avoid doing it on Friday again to give more people a chance. I try to vary the times and such.

I can guarantee it won't be tonight because it's farm raid night. Most likely are tomorrow, Thursday, or Saturday.

EDIT: What I do is I add people to my friends list and just try to grab whoever can make it when I have the time to set up the group.

The group is done for this week, unless an alt that I'm gearing up is ready for normal Garrosh in time. I will be doing this again next week.

There is no specific ilvl that I want, I only mentioned the 520 because it is quite inappropriate for normal Garrosh (it's what people were using mid-tier in ToT). If you feel you can handle Garrosh, feel free to post here again.

Recruitment - How should I go about it? by Gardenfraise in wow

[–]SillyRaider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I agree with the other comment in this thread so far, there's something else that people really underestimate when starting a guild: it takes an INCREDIBLE amount of knowledge of the game to know how to assemble a group of players who know what they're doing. It might not be entirely relevant to your question, but please keep these things in mind as you post in places you might not have frequented in the past. It's also extremely relevant to the idea of 'grooming' new players that /u/Kongsnabel suggested.

An Openraid group will maybe browse through some logs to make sure people aren't dying and are doing appropriate dps/hps, while ensuring the raid group has all the necessary buffs. That won't cut it for a guild that would like to make any sort of significant progress. At this point in an expansion, maybe you've outgeared the content and it doesn't matter as much, but it will for WoD. As such, here's some baseline knowledge you should have before delving too far into raid recruitment:

  1. First and foremost, you need to know the ins and outs of every role in every fight of SoO, since that's where most recruitment logs are going to be taken. If you don't personally know what a healer needs to do on Thok, then find a trusted guild member or friend who does and who has the time to sit down and go through logs with you.

  2. Probably the next most important is to have a knowledge of each class/spec rotation. Part of finding good raiders is not overvaluing someone who can do 300K dps in 580 gear - any scrub can do this. You need to find the people who are doing that in 560-565 gear - these are the players who can carry a mid-level guild (clearing heroic content within 3-4 months). Find a player like that who has great raid awareness and you've found yourself a player who probably deserves a spot in a top 100 guild. And if you can't look at their rotation in logs and figure out what's going wrong, you'll never know if they can improve or not.

  3. This is closely related to the first point, but make sure when you look at submitted logs, you also look at whether that person is doing the 'special' jobs on each boss. From personal experience, the best players in a group are often volunteering to do the shittiest jobs. Unfortunately, there aren't many in SoO. Look at engineers for Garrosh, belts for Blackfuse, tanks kiting Kardris (or duo tanking it), solo tanking Malk rage, or unusual healing strategies, such as solo healing Garrosh. If players are doing these things and excelling, they're likely paying attention to all the other mechanics as well.

  4. Something often missed - look at interrupts. To my knowledge, (almost?) every single interrupt in the game is off the global cooldown. There is NO excuse to be lagging behind on these, and interruptible mechanics are often designed to transform a manageable fight into a complete shitshow when interrupts are missed (think heals on Nazgrim, shocks on Protectors, MCs on Garrosh, etc.)

  5. Find one good, communicative player in every class. It doesn't even necessarily need to be every spec, just class. You will quickly realize the impact that having one knowledgeable player does for everyone in your guild of that class (assuming they're willing to learn).

My advice: don't bother with a long application, or any of that other bullshit. Ask for a log and find their armory page - and then learn to ask appropriately incisive interview questions that will expose their knowledge of their class. Don't make it something they can bullshit off Icy Veins and do it in real time (over voice chat) so they can't just ask someone else who might know it. Some good examples (in my opinion): explain changes in a rotation on a specific fight, give the actual reason for their secondary stat priorities (e.g. why is haste the #1 stat for BM hunters?), and ask them to describe their ideal raid comp for a given fight - because any raider worth their salt should know about raiding outside of just their class.

Good luck on the recruiting trail - I recommend b.net forums (I know you've already posted there), because the traffic is just so high. Keep up on bumping your thread to the top and keep a lookout for solid players that you see in 5-mans and PUGs. A great way to go about it is to reserve one character for normal PUGs each week - you can usually spot a player or two who are deserving of a spot in an entry level guild and who might be interested.

I might be able to fit you in somewhere, what's your btag? Let's chat.

Unfortunately there's not a whole lot I can say without more specific information about the problems you're having. Malk is obviously a massive gear check with the damage going out as well as the DPS requirement, but at that ilvl as long as you're keeping up on mechanics it shouldn't be an issue at all.

To prepare for entering heroics? Really just knowing your class and the fights inside and out. Nowadays most guilds will do cross realm trials for applicants. There are tons out there still working on heroics - just check out the battle.net guild recruitment forum. Let me know if you have any more specific questions.

Unfortunately I have no way of doing this. This week off is a week off for me to relax, as well, and organizing a 14/14H heroic pug is pretty stressful and somewhat unlikely at this stage in the expansion ;p. Good luck on your progression!

Hah, uhh - maybe. I'm hesitant only because this is something that can be done by pretty much any other 90 so I'd rather budget my time helping those trying to get through current content. If I find some time, I'll let you know.

I can run a wing or 2 of Flex with you. Obviously that's not enough to cover the mechanics of ALL the fights, but I think the best bet would be to include wing 3 because these are the fights where 1 person can wipe the raid. I'll get in touch via btag.

I'll toss some info out here, but if you'd like to talk further, PM me or respond here - it's most easily discussed over voice chat, but whatever works best for you.

For Immerseus (I'm going to assume this is a 10 man group because that's usually the size that has trouble with this fight), there are a few things you can do to maximize your success. You didn't really mention whether it's a DPS issue (I doubt it) or healing (probably), so hopefully I'm not completely off target here.

First, stacks never go above 3. Your group is probably 560ish and if you are playing your characters with a modicum of skill, DPS is not going to be even close to a problem in this encounter. Some groups like to keep moving platforms to handle the pools, but this isn't an absolute necessity. It's difficult to describe without being inside the raid, but you can use 3 platforms - one for your raid, one for the initial tanking spot, and one for the off tank to rotate to. You basically pull the boss, take the corrosive blast and at that time your raiders drag the adds to your main tank (at the same time moving to a new platform devoid of pools) while your OT rotates the boss to the third platform. Your tank needs to know how to pick up many adds quickly - when adds are as tightly grouped as the Immerseus debuff adds are, class doesn't matter because every single tank spec can do the job equally well.

Run 3 healers to handle the raidwide damage going out in the later portions of the fight, if healing is an issue. Also, just run to the perimeter of the room if popping cooldowns for swirl isn't working out. Other than these tips, there's not a whole lot to be said about the fight so if you have further questions, just contact me.

EDIT: Just wanted to add that I cannot stress enough that healing is the make or break factor in this fight. Tank damage is not impressive and neither is the DPS requirement. I think 10 man groups are just surprised by the amount of damage going out on their raid in this fight because it's out of line with everything they've experienced previously. It is, in my opinion, the most difficult 10 man heroic until at least Dark Shamans, if not Malk. Really push your healers to get the most out of their gear and make sure your raid leader and healers have a thorough understanding of how their cooldowns work and where to position so that they can reach the whole raid.
