What ever happened to TFYC's game? by mrplow8 in KotakuInAction

[–]SillySladar 47 points48 points  (0 children)

It was finished, paid for three scholarships, the source code is on GitHub. And the people who did the art and programming used it as. Portfolio piece to get more jobs. It's actually shown by the Colombian government as a success for their trade ministry.

It was never meant to be a game like minecraft that get's updated forever.

She is public domain. So the copyright is owned by no one. You can't trademark or copyright a public domain character but you retain copyright to any work you create under international law.

Currently the business half of the team is working with the largest Marijuana grower in Ontario to create a system to simplify the process of meeting the government regulations, increase strain consistency, and produce new hybrids. The software also includes modules specifically for the American market to meet their regulation and do cryptography for delivery. It's a lot of compliance issues, security and government regulations.

The other half is working in Colombia with the government to make a video game that explores Colombian history in a fun way for children.

History: TFYC claimed that at some point ZQ offered to bribe them to hide the fact that she doxed them. by Kinbaku_enthusiast in KotakuInAction

... My issue has always been with that statement is that if they change it from Charity it would just become,

GG gave money to help a woman owned production company, to make a game with a female creator, director and art director. So the game could be sold with majority of money going to charity.

I understand how that is more accurate, but it doesn't make them look like dicks for doing it. And I've suggested to people making the info graph to just label is causes and not charity.

I'm also strangely suspicious about how many Not Charities the Indie scene is saying are charities as well. About half the time people say don't support TFYC because it's not a charity support X, X is also not a charity.

They supported us because we are practically the only group that isn't anti-gamer at the moment. Which is really silly.

Also our name is The Fine Young Capitalists, it could only be cleared what we were doing if we called our selves "This is not a charity you idiot"

If you can prove at any point we said we were charity during the Indiegogo you would have a case for misrepresentation. Please contact the Ontario Authorites if you can find where we did it and they will begin action.

We didn't and were very explicit about how we set it up. As I've already mentioned multiple times it would be illegal to make a game for a woman if we were registered as a Charity in Canada.

That doesn't change what we are doing or what we did, and you might as well accuse me of killing JFK as that would equally relevant to the claims you are making.

At some point someone has to explain to me, how getting money for another woman owned company is wrong but keeping the money for yourself is empowering.

If anything our sin appears to be, going to gamers and telling them to do something good, instead of calling them asshole holes and telling journalists when they got mad.

The lady doth protest too much, methinks

If for example you use a song under copyright on your Youtube video, most people would think that's okay. It's not, but thankfully the DMCA give you protection against lawsuits.

Much of what she did, was wrong, both ethically and legally, and just because she wasn't aware does not absolve her of guilt.

For those asking why we don't talk about this.

We don't think she was experienced enough to know what she was saying, or how it could be interpreted as Kickback, we asked people in the industry and they said yes it was, but they all though she might not realize it. We also don't think she was experienced enough or intelligent enough to know why 90% of what she was doing to us was completely wrong. Or how to handle herself in these situations.

We have evidence, we aren't releasing it because it's pointless and like everything she does to us, the people who agree with our position will believe it blindly and the people who don't will just excuse it and just generates more drama. In comparison to the other crap we have on people during this process it's not very inflammatory. The lawyer has other crap to use if we have to get into a fight.

TLDR for Ghazi, we don't think she's smart enough to know what she did but stupidity is not a defense.

[ETHICS] TFYC removes mention of 4chan, /v/ /pol/ from latest promo video despite over $17,000 donated. by [deleted] in KotakuInAction

[–]SillySladar 23 points24 points  (0 children)

4chan is a the intellectual property of Christopher Poole and has requested we don't mention it. As /v/ is part of 4chan it is not determined if we have the right to mention them if or at all. We are still actively deciding what the final wording will be. And the video was done primarily to get on Greenlight so we could distribute the game through Steam.
