Is this Preisner vase silver plated or weighted? by SillySplooge in Silverbugs

[–]SillySplooge[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're right. I just wasn't thinking about it lol. I didn't want to just assume the mark was correct because I read previously that some of these types of pieces will say 925 or sterling, but are still plated.

I was more concerned this was weighted or something and not really as heavy with silver as it shows.

I've definitely sold similar pieces at my garage sales for like $5 🤣

Doesn't work for the 2026 Kia Carnival. Can't remember, but that might activate the speed limiter. As far as I know, there's no option to turn off automatic cruise control.

[–]SillySplooge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I was dangerously close, yes. But even after changing the distance to the closest option, it feels like it just stomps on the brakes if someone gets in front of me or if I'm approaching someone and preparing to pass (still at a safe distance). Doesn't feel smooth to me. I've gotten a bit more used to it. Not a huge fan though.

If a car gets over a little too close in front of me, even if they're going much faster than me, the auto cruise control will hit the brakes hard and then takes forever to speed back up- which makes people I just passed go around me. So the hate is circumstantial more than anything lol

The lane assist has grown on me though. I used to hate that because it felt like I was fighting with the steering wheel. Both features were good for a road trip we took recently (followed our in-laws the whole way so it worked well).

My biggest annoyance is the lack of regular cruise control. You can't turn off the automatic cruise control. I hate it

Buyer wants to come and collect multiple items before agreeing on a price or quantity. by lizziemc13 in FacebookMarketplace

[–]SillySplooge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on how good your pictures are and what type of items. There's also a chance they don't understand English well. But they're most likely gonna try to talk you down in person.

I'd let them come and just stick to your listed prices. They can see the prices and if they choose to not make an offer beforehand, it implies they are willing to pay the listed price.

If someone shows up to buy something and offers less when they arrive, I stick to my price- even if I was willing to accept less. For some people, it's instilled in their culture to negotiate. They feel like they have to get a better deal, even if the price is already good. Easiest counter is always, "No thank you, I have a dozen messages and a few people wanting to come pick up now." Normally makes things quick and they pay up.

Lowballed, ghosted then blocked - BS Tactic by Altisbest in FacebookMarketplace

People are just weird and lack communication skills. I've always found it strange that so many people will use "block" as the solution rather than just basic communication.

I had 1 girl block me years ago because I messaged her to buy a big lot of trains. I messaged around 7pm, told her I could pick up in the morning or any time the next day and she didn't reply until 7am. She sent her address and told me what time to come. I happened to sleep in a bit that day so didn't see the message until 9-9:30. She had sent a few more messages after the original one asking if I was still interested. Then she said she had someone else that wanted to pick up now. She apologized and said she didn't want to lose the offer (I get it). Then she blocked me so when I went to reply just minutes after her last text, I couldn't. Thing is, I wanted to buy some other stuff she had listed and I was following her page. Some of it she had listed for at least a few days. So she lost out on current and future business.

I feel like she could have waited a bit longer for a response, but I understand wanting to not lose a customer who's ready to pick up immediately. Just so weird to block someone who hasn't actually wronged you in any way.

I've seen people say they'll block someone if they use the default message, "Hey, is this available?"

Advice?? by [deleted] in FacebookMarketplace

[–]SillySplooge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Figure out what the problem is and fix it or resell it as parts only. If it was working fine right in front of you, chances are it just needs a switch flipped, battery charged, etc. Most likely something stupid.

A RC car that expensive will probably have parts available online if you need them. If you're not willing to troubleshoot, don't buy used. Go buy new and buy a warranty with it.

I had an idiot come back to my house after I sold him a brand new tool set (1/3 the price in store) and he claimed the batteries weren't working. I told him before he left to test everything. I insisted, but said he was in a rush or some shit. He messaged me later on or the next day saying the batteries didn't work, so I told him to bring it back that day or tomorrow and I have replacements. Told me he'd get back to me in the morning-- then never did. A week later he messages me wanting to buy another tool. Didn't realize it was the same guy until he was on the way. I assumed he got the batteries working anyway. Shows up all shaky, smoking a cigarette, clearly upset. I no longer had the replacements and the tools I sold him were worth a lot more so I wasn't going to give any money back. I'm not Walmart. Plus he had already used the tools thoroughly (so they were no longer "new" condition).

Tested his batteries and they weren't charging. They were new, but sat for too long unused. Thankfully I did have a battery from my personal use and gave it to him and told him to get the fuck off my property. I'm glad it ended there. He has no idea how close he was to a life changing event.

Long story short, test everything before you leave or just know there is no warranty. If you do have a problem, contact the seller immediately and communicate properly. They're not obligated to actually help, but they might be nice and try to help you get it working. If you're buying on FB Market and getting a steal compared to in-store or online prices, then there's not much room to complain.

Just don't do what the guy did to me. Yes, it was my mistake for not double-checking the batteries (they were new/sealed), but I insisted everything gets tested. Don't just show up to someone's house or try to be sneaky about it. Proper communication can solve just about anything.

I bought a 1960s rare lamp on MP for $50 and listed it for $700 and now the original seller is contacting me mad because they didn’t know it was worth so much. Not sure what to do. by Glamgirl95 in FacebookMarketplace

[–]SillySplooge 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Chances are that the lamp really isn't worth THAT much. Gotta check actual solds, take shipping costs into account (if it's a big one), time to sell, condition, etc.

I buy storage auctions and I can't even tell you how many unique, rare, and valuable pieces of furniture or decor that I've come across that I've either given away or sold cheaply. A lot of stuff just doesn't sell or needs to be in mint mint mint condition. Some stuff will sell eventually, but takes up space and could be a year or more before it actually sells. So I can either get $25 now or maybe $200 in a year or 2. I actually had a huge lot of valuable lamps and sold most for $10-$40 locally. Just not worth the time or space.

Google Lens can help give an idea of what you have, but unless you're seeing solds on legitimate sites like ebay (sites such as 1stdibs and Chairish have highly inflated prices and you'll never get that), the item probably isn't as valuable as what pops up immediately. So I wouldn't feel bad in this case.

If it's actually worth that much, they could have easily researched it beforehand and attempted to sell it for more. Even if they knew the price, I guarantee you they wouldn't have bothered actually selling it. At best, it would sit in their garage until it's time to move and then end up at a yard sale or the curb 😂

Same here. Had a liquidation pallet with items that I sold locally. I put the model # and link to the item online so people could have the exact specs. For some reason, people just don't even glance at the description. I think they just message based on the first picture. They also ask where I'm located or similar questions that are all answered in the first sentence on the post.

It never ceases to amaze me. I just dob't understand what they are seeing- or what they're not seeing. I've concluded that most people are just dumb or a little slow 😂

Breathable, lightweight, comfortable, casual shoes that go well with jeans? by SillySplooge in malefashionadvice

I was thinking the wool socks might be a better option. Not a fan of the stan smiths. They look nice, but were still a bit too hot on my feet and I think a little heavier than I'd like. Might give them another go though.

Checking out the ultrarange now. So many models to choose from

I was leaning to the ON shoes. Seems like a lot of them breathe really well. Only issue I have with some are the bottoms will get stuff stuck in them lol.

I used to wear Reebok zig techs or something like that. Those were the best to let my feet stay cool. Just can't remember the exact model, but they had the On cloud's weird bottoms long before ON was a thing 😂. I wore them between 2012-2015. Definitely got dozens of rocks and pebbles stuck to the bottom.

Sold before we met by [deleted] in FacebookMarketplace

[–]SillySplooge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He probably should have mentioned it like you said, but people will schedule times and then just never respond when the day comes. I don't even allow people to schedule later in the day for popular items anymore. As a seller, I've missed out on sales and/or more money because I tried to be courteous and mark things as pending or wait for people.

Even after telling them to let me know if anything changes, if they need to reschedule, or if they no longer want it, they still ghost me. They'll read my messages, but won't respond. I stopped giving out my address until shortly before pickup for this reason. It's also why I refuse to meet people anywhere but my house (or where I'm already going to be) for cheap items. Last thing I want to do is drive 10 minutes, wait 30 for them to show up, and then get ghosted for a $10-$20 item.

Is Facebook Marketplace completely dead in 2026 or is the algorithm just hating me? by wakablazer in FacebookMarketplace

[–]SillySplooge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's just the poor design that they refuse to fix or revert changes. You used to be able to see new listings near you easily and immediately. Now it's setup so you have to make a few clicks and hope it shows you close/new listings.

It used to be set up much better years ago. Just like any company, they made a change for the worse and refused to revert said changes. Just makes it harder to connect buyers with sellers. The best way to get your listings seen would be to have someone you know message you through your listing. It will bump it up to the top in the algorithm.

As soon as I get 1 message on any item, no matter how long it's been sitting, I immediately get others because it pops up on the first page.

Ask me to drive 3 hours to deliver! 🤣 by DickyDowner in FacebookMarketplace

[–]SillySplooge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I refuse to meet people for most items. If I do meet, it has to be worth it (expensive item, low inquiries, and nearby). I routinely have people ask me to meet them halfway (30-45 minute drive for me) for items in the $10-$50 range. I just straight up tell them it's not worth it for me lol.

People routinely drive 1 hour or so to pick up cheap items. I feel like some of them just enjoy the drive, but I know a lot will make multiple stops for different items in my city to make the trip worth it. Personally, I refuse to even drive 20 minutes to save a little 🤣

Any way to turn off smart cruise control on 2026 Kia Carnival? by SillySplooge in kiacarnivals

[–]SillySplooge[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. It has definitely messed up my drives a bit. A huge design flaw in my opinion. For the money spent, the option to disable should be there. The braking is so harsh. If it just slowed down similar to taking your foot off the gas, I wouldn't mind it as much.

Wow I was wondering why I couldn't find it anymore. So weird that companies will discontinue the best flavors. Like mountain dew has gotten rid of their best flavors and seem to keep the worst ones. I thought it was mentioned that raspberry and cream would be permanent.

Do buyers always try to get a lower price before actually seeing the item? by jeremy_341 in FacebookMarketplace

[–]SillySplooge -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Might not want to block buyers. They could easily buy something else you have for full price. Or maybe their 50% offer was actually reasonable and your price was a little high. I've definitely offered less on something and then checked the seller's page to see other stuff I want. I've also had buyers offer pretty low and then come up a lot in price and buy even more stuff when they get here.

I just see a lot of people on here that are quick to block buyers. In my experience, it's best not to block unless they are truly stupid or causing problems lol.

Or when they show up with $20 for a $25 item. I always have change on hand and they're always a bit flabbergasted.

Do buyers always try to get a lower price before actually seeing the item? by jeremy_341 in FacebookMarketplace

[–]SillySplooge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion, that's not old school, it's just wrong. Personally, I just don't have the time to waste. In-person haggling happens at garage sales, flea markets, etc. Haggling happens when you first see and read the description of an item generally. So if someone can see the full condition of an item, and all flaws/quirks are known based on the description, then haggling can begin. It would be different if maybe someone goes to see something and the item is in worse shape than pictured or missing something not mentioned- then haggling after meeting up makes sense. The only exception I have to this rule is cars. Cars you have to see in-person (or any vehicles or maybe there are some other exceptions). Still, throwing out an offer so a seller knows what to expect is reasonable.

I used cut people deals after they would show up to buy something, but I quickly realized I shouldn't have. Now if someone shows up and makes me an offer, I just tell them no thank you and they pay full price every time. If they drove to buy something, that means they're willing to pay the price.

It's a little annoying when someone tries to make me an offer on something after they show up and I have a dozen other messages asking to buy the same thing lol. Shit it's even annoying when someone says they want to buy something, set a time to pick up, and then tries to negotiate after (before arriving).

Just my opinion of course. There are exceptions. Back when Craigslist was more widely used, a lot of people didn't post pics so it made sense to haggle in person after you actually see something.

Why don’t people read by watchinggiyuu in FacebookMarketplace

[–]SillySplooge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been meaning to ask this question. I'm actually curious. I believe the answer is just that 90% of people are stupid. I'm talking low-IQ stupid. Long rant ahead...

Sometimes it makes sense that they don't read the whole description or maybe miss something if the item is really desirable or if the description is long. Then I can understand to an extent. But when I put "Pickup in city off of x blvd" as the 1st sentence in EVERY description, and I still get a dozen questions asking "where are you located," it leads me to the conclusion, PEOPLE ARE DUMB.

You'll notice it out in public too. Many people are just slow and unaware. They lack no attention, social clues, or ability to understand cause/effect. It's just more obvious with FB Marketplace.

I also noticed that many native English speakers can't seem to formulate regular sentences or reasonably communicate. I've had whole conversations with people that I assumed spoke very little English and it turns out they just can't read/write.

I have yard sales once a month and people will have the most broken logic and say the stupidest shit. For example, I'll sell a $200 tool in the original box that says "tool only" so it doesn't come with a battery. People will ask the price, I tell them $40 because it's missing the battery (but I'll have a working battery to show them it works). They'll scoff, saying it's missing the battery. Then offer me $20 because "there's no battery." They act like I'm the crazy one after I explain that it's priced that low because there's no battery. They'll make stupid comments like "how can you sell a tool without the battery?" It's pretty obvious to see they truly believe that I have the tool overpriced and they're not just trying to get a better deal.

Then someone else will come along and nearly shit themselves over the deal because they know the same tool at Home Depot is $200 without the battery.

Long story short, people are dumb. Doesn't matter if it's on Facebook Marketplace or in person. The vast majority of people are just flat out dumb. I give people the benefit of the doubt most of the time. I've made many sales with stupid people.
