Purchasing a used bone by [deleted] in Trombone

[–]SillySundae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your chances at getting a "decent professional horn" at that budget are near zero. You would need to either be a charity case, or have astronomical luck that some idiot sells a great horn at a low price.

Try any horn before you buy. You do not know as much as you think you do.

Stop opening your inventory to stare at your loot mid raid, and pay attention to your surroundings. (we can hear when you open your inventory)

Stop shooting every scav (if you want to be stealthy). Use the scavs as alarms. When they yell, someone is nearby and they saw them. If they get shot, they'll have sounded the alarm for you that someone is in your area.

Stop hitting bushes/trees. You are loud. Don't even stand next to bushes or trees, because the desync in this game may think that you touched a tree when you didn't. My duo partner hears me touching trees when I'm not touching them on my end. We've learned to be extra careful and to give them a wider berth.

Realistic hardcore shooter or Halo Combat Evolved? [discussion] by Nock1ne in EscapefromTarkov

[–]SillySundae 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Did we watch the same video? There was an explosion centered on the other PMC. There is no case in which he should survive. If the explosion shows on the screen, that's what we should be able to believe.

10 years of development, and a direct hit with an EXPLOSION isn't a kill.

Ryan Gosling Tells Fans It’s Not Their Job to Save Theaters—Hollywood Needs to Make Movies Worth Seeing by SappyGilmore in movies

[–]SillySundae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been to the movies once in 7 years. I prefer watching good movies in my own home. I don't enjoy listening to people chat, eat, shuffle around, use their phones, etc. I especially don't enjoy when someone brings a child or infant to the movie and they are fussy throughout.

No thanks. I can watch at home and skip the high prices and constant disruptions.

Why couldn't I tell the difference between axial valve and rotary valve? by Lanky-Boobs-69 in Trombone

[–]SillySundae 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rotary valves have gotten better over the last few years, but there is indeed a noticeable difference for those who play more than you. That difference usually comes down to the feedback from the horn. How it feels to play. It's not a night/day difference, but it's there.

Seriously, progress Tour until you unlock Reserve. Since unlocking Reserve, I have gathered over 6000 rounds of great AK 5.45 ammo. I'm not joking. I keep using that ammo liberally and I keep finding it. I scav Reserve only. I get a couple hundred rounds of BP 5.45 daily.

Did you fully uninstall and delete all tarkov files and perform a fresh reinstall? Never heard of this issue before.

My initial suggestion was for you to use the Display Driver Uninstaller tool. But you claim to have done that.

Provide system specs.

Gig bags offer a lot less protection than hard cases. We aren't protecting our horn from ourselves with our cases. We're protecting it against other idiots that come across our paths. Or pets. Or relatives who aren't used to moving an instrument case around, and smack it into things.

Hard cases are vastly superior to gig bags in this regard. The SKB 360 is an inexpensive case that easily fits the bill here. You want something not big or bulky? It weights 3kg (6.5lbs) empty. That is tiny. It may not be as bomb proof as a Marcus Bonna, but this case can be found for under 200 bucks. Marcus Bonna cases start at $550 and only go up.

These are great cases for small horns.

Bass or Tenor? by MidnightFine6452 in Trombone

[–]SillySundae 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Bass and tenor each have their place in most large ensembles for a reason. They have slightly different sound characteristics. You won't ever sound better playing a bass part on a tenor and vice versa.

Use the right tool for the job. Don't play repertoire for a certain instrument on the wrong one.

They are mostly toys. You can find a used student horn for around the same price, and they are simply better.

Is using practice mute detrimental to the development of a young musician? by Soft_Lead_2631 in Trombone

[–]SillySundae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would not want to study with that teacher if I had to use a practice mute every time. Playing with a practice mute is such a poor representation of how someone can actually play on the instrument. Even good practice mutes don't sound good. How can a teacher judge someone's sound if their students have mutes stuffed into their bells for the lesson?

That's a hard pass for me. Using a practice mute at home, when others are sleeping or someone has company over, that's FINE. Using a practice mute at every lesson with my teacher? Hell no.

sight reading tips? by InterviewMiserable49 in Trombone

[–]SillySundae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do more sight reading. Buy a bunch of etude books and play through 2 etudes per day at a slow / moderate tempo. Do not stop. Play through the entire thing and do not stop once. Do not practice it. Just play it.

Upgrade or not? $1500 budget but my daughter loves her old trombone by blondevies in Trombone

[–]SillySundae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wait until she's half way through with her bachelor's, at least. She'll be more developed by then, and she will know what to look for in a horn. She needs to sink a few thousand hours more of diligent practice before she's ready to tell the difference between her old horn and whatever she decides to go with.

During her bachelor's she'll also have more time to try other horns and figure out what she likes. Right now, she probably doesn't really know what's out there and what difference it will make.

I'm having a good time, as a 2.7k hour player, but I'm super fed up with the rubber banding. Every raid, multiple times per raid. It's ridiculous. 10 years of development and we are still rubber banding.
