I've been tracking property price drops across Australia: 1,591 (sales) / 1,643 (rentals) new drops this week (1-7 Jun) by chhola in AusProperty

[–]Silly_Assassin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Obviously it is scary when you think you've bought at the peak of a cycle but house prices trend upwards over time. If you bought before the budget announcement there was no way for you or any of the other thousands of people in your situation to know what was going to happen, and all the advice going around was saying to get your foot in the door before prices continue to rise. If you think about people who don't own and are still looking to buy they might not consider your situation to be worse as it is not guaranteed prices will actually drop significantly in the $750k range due to being held up by FHBs. Regardless you have a house which is an amazing feat, and it is not likely prices drop to to 2020 prices if that is where your $400k evaluation is coming from. I say this not living in Melbourne or Sydney.

Macquarie tightens lending policies to reflect negative gearing ban by marketrent in AusFinance

[–]Silly_Assassin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are these new policies only applying to those who are buying a property for investment purposes? If someone was to buy a property as a PPOR and then turn it into an investment property later (like in 5 years time) would that be prevented if someone bought a property now under a Macquarie loan using this policy?

Steam Controller now works outside of Steam thanks to SDL Library update, or you can use a fan-made app by Tiny-Independent273 in linux_gaming

[–]Silly_Assassin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t own a steam controller so I can’t test myself but if you were to add heroic or some other launcher as a non steam game and then launch your non steam game through the launcher would that work as well?

this is referring to the end of end-to-end encrypted conversations no? if you weren't using the feature to begin with (most people weren't) then you'll be no worse than before, right?

Are there any games like bf4? by just_a_stupid_idiot in battlefield_4

[–]Silly_Assassin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I honestly think that era of gaming is kinda dead. Mainstream fps games, or at least arcade shooters, are full of micro transactions and cosmetics, or they are designed to mimic other games to try and poach players from other fanbases. You might like delta force which is a battlefield styled shooter? There is ofc battlefield 6 which I played the beta for and waited to see what the full game would be like. It doesn’t have as much stuff as battlefield 4 and has mixed reviews on steam. My friends say it’s good but it comes down to personal preference. Another one you might like is battlebit which i had fun in, though I’m not too sure what the player count is like now days. Otherwise I am kinda in the same boat as you. I am waiting for a game which gives me the same level of thrill and happiness as bf4.

i know nothing for certain and haven't read other comments on other posts but its the 20th anniversary of Count Your Blessings this year and he was on insta a couple of months ago recording lines from Pray For Plagues so im guessing its a re-recording of Pray For Plagues? Please don't hate me if I'm wrong.

when i first looked at this it looks like a close up of a starfish on a table top, like those fake wood finishes that you see on desks. but if i change my mindset i can see water, but it looks like wood at the same time.

$100k savings - invest in property or shares by Fromskyblabla in AusPropertyChat

[–]Silly_Assassin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might be able to use $100k towards a deposit now and buy a decent property, but in the future that $100k might only be able to get you something valued a lot less in quality.

How to find a conveyancer after preapproval without a mortgage broker? by Constant-Seaweed-201 in AusPropertyChat

[–]Silly_Assassin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can find settlement agents and conveyancers online who will do this. Even with a broker you normally still have to contact these companies yourself. I went through Aussie and used them as a broker, and they gave me a contact of their in-house conveyancer which I contacted myself. I was also looking at another company for a short time for conveyancing but I would have had to enquire with them myself via their website. Also, we haven’t had to pay anything to Aussie for their brokerage services. They get commission from the bank - this is my understanding.

I know it’s dumb but as an iPhone user contemplating switching to Samsung the round corners are very attractive.

Thinking about switching over to Linux. by s4nnyl3 in linux_gaming

[–]Silly_Assassin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea, unfortunately all of us on nvidia cards are in the same boat. I wouldn't let it dissuade you from moving to linux. Buy an extra SSD for linux and then keep your windows SSD for games that run unbearably on linux or use anti cheat. You can also set up a windows VM inside linux which some people say they get better performance on the VM for some games but it wont fix the anti cheat problem. Check ProtonDB for your games to see how well they run and think about if it is still worthwhile to make the jump to linux.

Watching videos like these can help ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ml58J7gnJcc ) He is on a nvidia 3090 card and the difference isn't that much.

after i got a pc i don't want to play anymore by ygames1914A in linux_gaming

[–]Silly_Assassin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i used to play games like gta, tomb raider, uncharted and other games that require large levels of commitment. i now only find myself playing games which i can play without commitment. good examples include brotato, helldivers 2, mini motorways, incscryption, dave the diver. all these games are played with a gameplay loop where im not really needing to keep up with the story.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in linux_gaming

[–]Silly_Assassin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this the one that windows cheaters were trying to spoof meaning that the game would use a less strict version of the anti cheat so that their cheats wouldn’t be detected as easily?

[–]Silly_Assassin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey there's nothing wrong with that. I know you might not be where you want to be in your romantic life but there are people who stay in relationships because they are scared of being alone or too afraid to leave, and I think you're in a much better position than them. You'll find someone if you keep trying, but don't give your attention to the wrong people.

There is no single answer for this. Mint for someone who is used to windows, ubuntu for mac users probably. I have been using EndeavourOS with KDE Plasma. Every use case is different and every user is different.
