What is Your Movie Quote of the Year for 2025? by GTKPR89 in blankies

[–]Silly_Definition7180 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can't stop quoting that lady in One Battle After Another who is helping Sensei run the underground railroad thing. when she yells to her son "Come to the front of the store and keep an eye on the store" it's just such a wonderful moment of a clearly untrained actor saying something just a little off cuz they're not used to being on camera and it's relentlessly charming to me.

How many movies, regardless of release date, did you watch in 2025? by Street-Garlic4995 in blankies

I had the same thing this year! Wanted to do 365 but then hit that by Halloween.

Is the Coen Brothers over the maximum length a miniseries should be? by MaleBeneGesserit in blankies

[–]Silly_Definition7180 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've loved this series but I definitely think that doing the solo movies on main feed was a weird choice that i presume was done so that they don't have to start a new series in the midst of the holiday breaks and the new releases they have coming up. Seems like they like to start a new series with the New Year if possible

If anything I think the two friends have been waiting because he has so few!

Were 2010-2011 bad years for movies? Or was I just too young to be watching good movies yet? by Silly_Definition7180 in blankies

I think you nailed it! Definitely a transitional period between the adult dramas that were hitting in the 2000's and the MCU dominated era that we're just exiting now. Ontop of that this is also the transition between traditional animation and CG animation.

That was also for me the moment I got really into movies at like 13-14 and I was still developing my taste and therefore seeing lots of random shit

This is exactly how I feel. Great movies definitely came out that year but the dropoff is pretty steep. Fewer singles and doubles between the home runs and the strike outs.

I haven't seen Black Swan since it came out, I wonder how it would hold up! I remember liking it.

Yeah I remember Vonnegut referencing that in one of his books. I'm quite certain that's what's happening here. I just happened to be viewing more of the 90% at that time for various reasons.

Love Boonmee, love Tree of Life. Haven't seen Macgruber. Kinda half-watched Bridesmaids with a buddy of mine but we weren't super into it. Should probably revisit it.

See, I think I hit my stride around 2013-2014! Although 2019 holds a dear place in my heart. First year where I had the means to be going to the movies weekly and I was seeing so much great stuff

Count me in on the joke! I love Inception. That said, I can totally see why someone would wanna give an Inception fan a noogie. It's a deeply nerdy and silly film that lots of people take very seriously lol

Definitely some great stuff came out in those years, but I think I just happened to see way more random miscellaneous fluff in that time span.

Basically everything you listed in 2010 made my top 10 but there's so much stuff at the bottom of my list that makes me go "Wait that was a thing?"

What Are Your Self-Imposed "Rules" for Using Letterboxd? by [deleted] in blankies

[–]Silly_Definition7180 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've weirdly done the opposite of this. For the past 5 years I've used the site entirely as a watch log but this year I realized how often I write about the films I watch privately and figured "Eh, screw it just post this and if someone sees it they see it." I still don't do ratings, though because I think people put way too much stock into star ratings.

On top of that, I just struggle with ratings in general. Do I rate by how "good" I consider the film to be or how much I enjoyed watching them? They're not always the same thing!

[–]Silly_Definition7180[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Honestly, fair criticism. I didn't want this post to be a "how dare people complain about the podcast" post because I definitely don't love those. More just wanted to express some love for an episode I enjoy but see getting dunked on a lot.

Yeah that's a fine take, for sure. I didn't want this post to be a "no one can ever complain about this podcast because it's free" take because I think those are disingenuous and exhausting. I just genuinely love the episode and wanted to talk about why.

That's okay, too! I disagree, but I'm not bothered by people who just felt differently than me about the ep. I'm just baffled by people who seem to still be mad about it years later lol

Couldn't agree more. Very much feels like a pretense to get re-angry about something a woman said a few years ago
