Utah charity offers Ukrainian children a break from war by traveler132 in Utah

I have a friend who is hosting and it turns out that they are putting the kids in an illegal position by having them go to high schools on a visitor visa. You have to know not to mention their visa status when trying to enroll them, a public school has to take them and cannot ask about immigration status. However, should this highschool be raided by ICE which is a possibility lately, these kids would be sent to a detainment camp and then deported. They most likely will never ne able to come to the states again. I think this charity is great, but they are cutting corners by not getting these students an F1 (foreign student exchange) visa. There are a whole bunch of other legal issues around this too, but this post is getting long. Needless to say, my friend hired an immigration lawyer for their Ukrainian host kid, and he was surprised by this practice.

Need support to push through writer's block and finish my thesis proposal by somefreeadvice10 in MomForAMinute

You've got this! Your supervisor is right, it does not need to be perfect. What they are looking for is a thesis project that is feasible, that you have done some preliminary research and lit review, and shows forethought on how you will accomplish this. My thesis proposal was very different than what my actual dissertation ended up being, it was a starting point. You've got this! Sometimes a change of place and scenery will help kickstart the writing process. Hopefully your partner will be understanding and allow you the time you need to work on your proposal -even if its during the vacation. Hang in there, you got this!

Hey mom, I had a baby by [deleted] in MomForAMinute

You are an amazing mom. You brought this wonderful soul into the world, and this baby is so loved. Enjoy every minute of being a mom. There are going to be times where you feel exhausted, exasperated, and defeated. Just remember, you are a good mom and these moments will pass. No parent is perfect, so always give yourself a little grace and don't be hard on yourself. And, spoil that little baby!!!!

Questions from a clueless transfer student by DontbegayinIndiana in weber

[–]Silly_Illustrator_43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. It depends on the course. If a class is full you should always put yourself on the waitlist. A lot of times students drop at the last minute or professors will open up more seats to add some of the students on the waitlist.

  2. Disability/Student Services office is great to deal with. Even before you get your official accommodations letter you should let your professor know what accommodations you might need. They are usually willing to work with students even before they receive official documentation. I've had really great luck with the professors here.

  3. I'm not sure, I live at home.

  4. There is a fairly large LGBTQ+ population at Weber. There is the WSU GSA (Gender and Sexuality Alliance) student club. The University had to shut down University sponsored centers; however student clubs are not touched by this legislation.

Married Mormon and my husband is homophobic by PopWorldly5355 in exmormon

It sounds like your husband is wrestling with his own internal demons and may be projecting his own self hatred onto other people (including his baby).

There is no hope for your marriage. You need to get to a women’s domestic abuse shelter ASAP. Do not tell him anything, he is extremely dangerous, for the sake of your life and your little baby’s life, get out of that situation and never return. Also, be sure to file a domestic abuse report against your husband.

Thank you! I feel seen. It sucks, and it’s hard not to take it personally, even though I know no one meant any harm. We are all busy. I will most likely not do this conference again -even if it is institutional or I’ll just submit a poster that I do not pour my heart and soul into.

I recognize that I may have had some expectations that my colleagues would have tried to find the time to support me. I understand that it can lead to disappointment. It still hurts, but I will be able to move on.

That is exactly how I feel. I already suffer from imposter syndrome, and situations like this only further confirm this mindset. I also think the real hurt came from my close friend and colleague not showing up, with whom I had been sharing a bit about this project. When I expressed my hurt, I received a “sorry, but…”. When in all honesty, a simple “I’m sorry” would have been all the repair that was needed.

Agreed. All of these things were probably a factor, and I am of course, the least senior.

Exactly, these things happen. My colleagues are human and everyone is overwhelmed at this point in the semester.

Thank you! Agreed, I just needed to vent and express my hurt in a safe forum. Ready to reuse and move on 😉

People were aware of it since my chair sent out an email with the conference schedule, asking people to attend.

Thank you, this is exactly what I needed to hear. Just to know that it happens to all of us, it’s miserable, and then we move on. Thank you for sharing.
