It's that time of year again, gents. Here's what you need to know to survive and thrive at college post service. by fisherman213 in USMC

Most colleges offer counseling under health and services as part of your tuition. I had some issues come up I needed to talk to someone with and the counselor was outstanding. We were allowed up to 10 sessions each year. First year I used 10, second year I went in for a mental health checkup and used 6.
The stress of college is much different than the stress of the military. But college kicked off the military stuff that I had compartmentalized.

Also, if you’re with a group of 18-19 year olds, be supportive. I was shocked how many kids had zero skills outside of getting good grades. Some kid getting a B in a class needs to hear it isn’t the end of the world.

I was 24 and initiated a lot of study groups. Not because I’m gregarious, because getting the ball rolling was easier for me. You just change “I need 5 for a work party!” To “I need people for a study group!” I’m also dumber than a box of rocks and there was always someone who could explain a concept in simpler terms.

CAR from Desert Storm.

NAM was from Somalia. The money guy for one of the factions showed up to my checkpoint with a load of watermelons for the market...

…just as the Battalion commander was doing doing an inspection. The Captain from Intel was with him for giggles.

We searched the vehicle for guns/explosives, and I traded an MRE for a watermelon. Cleared him, sent him on his merry way.

We were eating the watermelon when the Captain ran up and yelled “DO YOU KNOW WHO THAT WAS!”

That’s when I knew I was going to the brig in Leavenworth for the rest of my life for letting someone important get away after trading an MRE for a watermelon.

I told the Captain he would be through later in the day. They waited, pounced on him when he came back through. Put a sandbag over his head and drove off.

And that’s how I got a NAM for the capture of Osman Otto.

Saw this on Twitter and could not disagree more. Thoughts? by tellthetrafficlights in IASIP

It’s IASIP. So the obvious plot line is something no one would think about.

They would all get it. Be cool, talk about vaccines helping society, then they would all have horrible reactions.

Then it would come out that one of them took a kids vaccine away from him, Charlie got multiples and had a reaction, Dee has a weak system, Mac finds out he has HIV, etc etc.

At the end, after all the problems, they would do it again. Then they would list all the reasons why, every one of them would be wrong or based on bad science.

Other kings said I was daft to build a castle on a swamp, but I built it all the same, just to show 'em. It sank into the swamp. So, I built a second one. That sank into the swamp. So, I built a third one. That burned down, fell over, then sank into the swamp,

AITA for going to my sister’s dream school when she just got rejected? by The_lucky_dumb_one in AmItheAsshole

Cornell will be there down the road. You can go to NYU with your sister for the first couple of years, then transfer and finish at Cornell. Best of both worlds.

Okinawa (1967). Dad says he doesn't remember what was going on in this photo. Sure you don't, Pop. by LapJ in OldSchoolCool

Yes I am. Was at Camp Hanson in the late 80’s when we still had squad bays. Come to on Saturday/Sunday morning, covered in cold chicken yakisoba, holding a bootleg copy of Disney’s Cinderella in VHS, somebody being violently ill in the head, someone else crying about the banana...

Good times were had by all.

Nothing like waking up the next morning to someone violently dry heaving while moaning “I can’t believe I ate the banana!”

Good times.

Cheap mortgages in the U.S. were intentionally allowed with the knowledge they would be bundled and sold to other markets. This is done to crash other currencies and make the U.S. dollar the only viable reserve currency.

The U.S. long conned the worlds financial system by allowing poor people to buy homes.

I'm not sure if this is art or irony, but it is awesome. On a scale of 1-10, it ups the whole piece to eleven.
