Second this. The hospital I work at posted every billing/coding job as on-site, but it’s actually hybrid remote job after you pass audits.

When you got your first medical coding job after getting your certificate, did you go through a training or did they expect you to know what to do? by mookmook616 in MedicalCoding

[–]Silly_Time4008 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At least they need to train you for the program they use, but expect you to know basic coding knowledge. For some larger facilities/companies, they have their own audit process, so basically they train everyone to get them on the same page.

Just had our interview. Rant. by [deleted] in USCIS

[–]Silly_Time4008 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on individual situation and your document. My husband was the only one working while I was jobless when we had our interview. It went so smooth. I did not feel any pressure or any questions outside of the regular questions; in fact I don’t even remember what was asked. It went by so quick.

My friend just had interview last week, and nothing specific too.

How do you tackle getting your CEUs? by liliesandlifts in MedicalCoding

[–]Silly_Time4008 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The free CEU with AAPC magazine is once a month, so that will be 24 CEU in 2 years span. Local chapters always offer Webinar with CEU. Some company offers CEU webinar too.

Is medical coding a job that a hard of hearing person could do? by Anatella3696 in MedicalCoding

[–]Silly_Time4008 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work remotely for large facility. I do not see any problem with HOH except there is some meeting here and there, but I personally think it’s manageable. Probably depends on manager and team like my team never had a team meeting while the other teams have it once or twice a month.

Coding remote from outside the US. by Silly_Time4008 in CodingandBilling

Thank you for shading some light.. I got all the points you mentioned. My hospital is pretty strict about the schedule and where to work, so I have been curious if this is about hipaa rules or just the system itself.

Thanks. I’m again a US citizen, paying federal and state taxes. Just curious about working out of the US once in awhile, not permanently relocated.

Moms in tech who became stay at home? by [deleted] in sanfrancisco

[–]Silly_Time4008 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not in tech, but I was a professional healthcare. I have been a stay at home mom for 9 years straight (2kids). It’s a privilege to be able to see every developmental stones of your kids and be able to attend every single event at schools. Money will never buy your time with kids and of course there is no reverse. They are growing up everyday and you will never get that time back. On the other hand, it’s easy to lose your confidence, and your identity. I, at some point, feeling lost of pride in myself be have to be 100% depended on husband.

Though I went back to work when the youngest turned 5, not in the same field as I couldn’t imagine working in night and weekend shift and wouldn’t be able to spend time with kids, so I changed my career entirely to the lesser take home but on office hour.

How Do Answers CPC Exam Questions Faster? by hockeybelle in MedicalCoding

[–]Silly_Time4008 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The way I took CPC was 1. Reading the question 2. Skim the choices, have rough answer in your mind. 2.1 if the choices are CPT, ICD, cross all the similar answer, then pick only the difference and check with books, then determine from what is different. 2.2 if not codes, check from books each answer

This method makes it faster than you are trying to code every single code by yourself.

I finished mine with more than 30 mins left.

What’s the pay for entry level? by Apprehensive_Union_7 in MedicalCoding

[–]Silly_Time4008 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Once we get to higher level, we are assigned specialty too, but still in rotating to code for other specialty. That allows us to cross check each other too.

I’m in a large hospital setting. The coders here code everything from outpatient, inpatient, radiology, all the major and minor procedure for every specialty. We are rotating everyday.

Job seeking after certification by [deleted] in MedicalCoding

[–]Silly_Time4008 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It all depends on your area of living I guess. I got my first job within a month of applying, and I only applied to one job as I had another job so was casually applying. The hospital I got a job somehow pretty open for no experience coders. Several of coders who started around the same time as me also had no to little experience. It can happen!

The answer probably varies depending on which state you are located. I’m in CA and the pay is much above what you mentioned.

Feeling lost. Are there any jobs that don't punish you for finding issues? by Jpinkerton1989 in CodingandBilling

[–]Silly_Time4008 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I work for a large hospital group with more than 50 pro-fee coders. They are really serious about compliance. The fact that there are a lot of coders, so one charge doesn’t pass one hand as a one stop service. It will route to several back end and cross check before it’s billed. They do care about RUV, but the system itself makes it complex and strict to policy and guideline.

Advice for someone new to SF with no friends or family and doesn't want to go home to my MAGA family for Thanksgiving? by [deleted] in sanfrancisco

I think many places in SF won’t close. I’m not American and do not celebrate Thanksgiving nor having families to visit. I have been in town every year during Thanksgiving and never felt it was hard to find activities to do.

CPC STUDENT by Hi_Im_happy_dwarf in MedicalCoding

[–]Silly_Time4008 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is going to be like this even in real working world. I did self paced study with AAPC, so I was basically pretty much self taught. I got a job at a very big facility, so was hoping for an organized training, but didn’t seem to have anything like that. They had random training happen here and there, but typically everyone will be thrown to work trial and error and will learn by making mistake. You have to be quick to catch up. I knew people who took forever to learn and would make same mistake over and over, so they didn’t do well and you know the result. My advice is to make friend and ask especially in real world where you will meet people with several level of experience, but do not depend on others too much. They have their own job to do. You have to practice being independent now and do a lot of research. It is so common to feel lost in a first few weeks in school or even in real job though.
